    Good rear gears

Unless you were out doing 5500 rpm burnouts or doing top speed testing, that engine of yours was not healthy and was about to expire no matter how you were driving.

Twitchy steering with a big travel trailer (rear sway bar help?)

It's possible. You said you installed a quick ratio steering box? Both of those can amplify the effects of overloading tires when towing.

Twitchy steering with a big travel trailer (rear sway bar help?)

What I meant was that it was brought up that the tires in question should be up to the task as far as the ratings go. But sufficient tires are never as comfortable as more than capable tires. In short, I'm in the same camp as many of the original posters- the tires aren't meant for what they...

    Finally got a running 65 C10

16 year old me would have said "350 is bigger, I want that!". But modern day me would say "I've got this nice little 283 that I've put work into, I'll stick with the nice little 283".

What have you done to your square lately??

I swapped a fixed output th400 in place of a long tail th350 and used the stock shaft. The trick is in the front yoke. I used a front yoke from a 1/2 ton, 4x4. It is longer, 32 spline and uses the same u-joint. I simply unbolted the fixed yoke from the th400 and slipped in the old shaft with the...

    700R4 Information Thread

Lol, I just Googled that name for a transmission. I have no experience with the company, but I probably would never consider a trans from a company with that "big box store" type of name.

Twitchy steering with a big travel trailer (rear sway bar help?)

Tires being run anywhere remotely close to their max load rating are going to handle poorly compared to a heavier rated tire. A good and sturdy tire is the #1 most important item for towing. In my experiences, 8k isn't that heavy of a load for a 3/4 ton Suburban, even without any sort of weight...

SM465 Swap to 5 speed manual?

Also, even with the steepest available original gear ratio, 70mph+ is no problem at all without an overdrive. Yeah, it revs higher than a new truck, but it won't hurt it at all.

SM465 Swap to 5 speed manual?

Ate you thinking of an actual 5-speed, or a truck 5-speed with a low gear? Because you have a truck 4-speed now, rather than a 3-speed, which is why I was asking. If you don't mind a lighter duty transmission without a low gear, there is the original optional overdrive 4-speed, or a later model...

    Davis Off Road, crossover steering???

Just an update. I talked to my buddy that lives in South Central VA and he said "They are the baddest 4x4 shop around. Those boys do great work and have some wild toys". Imho that's saying something, considering the quality of a lot of the off road (mud mostly) trucks in the area.

    Need help with part number/name 1987 V3500 7.4L N TBI

I'm not sure I've ever seen a TBI truck that didn't have the gauges option. Weird. If it's an idiot light cluster and it doesn't have the AUX cooling fan mounted in front of the radiator, it must be the temp switch for the idiot light.

Dashboard "frame" removal 1984 GMC C1500

It ain't gonna bother anyone I don't think. A stock dash can always be put back in. Kurt at Diy4x4 offered a custom, aluminum dash, that may make your life easier. Now with that said, he has recently shifted markets to the race car crowd, but I believe he does still take orders for some of the...

    Good rear gears

Yeah, my old '86 C20 454 Suburban with 3.73 gears cruised the interstate with ease, even at 80mph. It was a fantastic cruiser for out of state trips. I actually would have preferred that it had a 4.10 gear.

This past fall, we lost a factory front flare off our '00 Burb on a very breezy day. Apparently there wasn't any fender left for it to attach too. The other side is not far behind.

Dashboard "frame" removal 1984 GMC C1500

Out of curiosity, why are you removing the dash frame? I ask because usually when someone is removing it, they already have a replacement and know that it is spot welded in. If you aren't replacing it, you are likely creating more work for yourself than you need to.
