How many bolts hold the transmission on and where?

None of the housing bolts hold the transmission in place. Those are only there to dampen vibration and be broken off with the ears. The transmission is sealed to the back of the block with a GM factory sludge that can be replicated when reinstalling with cooked 10W40. A 3' pry bar and a strong...

73-80 vs. 81-87 side window glass

I've had SB from 74-85 and lots of them. The vent structures do interchange. The tints really didn't change from newer to older as I recall. At least I have never noticed any difference in levels of factory tint shade.

    Help with gauge cluster lights

I have replaced many bulbs in old squarebodies. I also upgrade to LEDS for the difference in brightness. I have found through trial and error to replace the printed circuit panel and any sockets that even look remotely worn or corroded. It just isn't worth the hassle to keep popping the panel...

NEW Brothers Dash Bezels - CHEAP

I ordered a non a/c bezel for a 1980 for $40. Great deal. However, they also list a 78-80 bezel with a photo showing it for a/c. Same part #, same price, different photo. I emailed them 2 days ago asking for clarification and am still waiting for a response.

    Ignition Switch (Tilt Column)

With tilt columns, I have rebuilt them in the truck and on a workbench over a large towel like pictured above. My experience has been- Tilt columns can be a beech; everything needs to be laid out in the order it was removed and one stripped screw or frozen pin holding the column collar can bring...

Daughters ‘87 needs to ride smooth.

I should clarify, not all older vehicles had a ride inferior to modern cars. I had a bone stock 1969 Chevy Impala 4 door hardtop with radial tires and Montgomery Ward shocks and it rode like a overstuffed BarcaLounger. But the ride matched the demographic. The reason GM didn't put sliding rear...

Daughters ‘87 needs to ride smooth.

Comfortable is subjective. I have two kids in college and one refuses to ride in my K10, lol. I, on the other hand, have no problem gripping the wheel a little tighter when crossing RR tracks. The SB suspension, regardless of the ads, was function over form. Radial tires with a non...

    Just advice please

Here is my opinion based on experience- He is willing to trade for a POS G6, so he is tired of the truck and wants it gone. That truck will never be worth any less; the G6 will never be worth any more. I would do the deal asap and get it home. If not towing, I'd have a follow car and take...

Death wobble, or bad wheel balance?

Just so happens I was at a truck show last week and talking to a guy who had the same issue. He bought a truck with a worn out steering gearbox. He decides he'll adjust it until the slop goes away. He tightened it as much as he could and that's when he noticed the wobble. He swore it was from...

    SWAPPING 84 c10 body onto 84 k10 FRAME

One of our trucks waiting for restoration was originally an 80 K10 currently with an 80C10 cab. The previous owner did a good job. He did have to cut the transmission tunnel and patch in the K10 hump. Not a big deal.

    Power steering gear box

Correct 4wd and 2wd gearboxs differ, and the fitting for your power steering lines may vary.

How would you make this truck less ugly??

I'll repeat what has already been posted. Get some fork blades under the rear bumper and even it out. Booger weld a cheap wheel arch panel in back, grind it and spray it. Last but not least, some 31s over a set of OE rallies. No lift kit, no window tint, no swampers; if you want your truck to...

    Help with 86 K5 Tailgate

Once you have the cover off you can check for binding, misalignment, lack of grease, etc, but you can also unhook the drive cable and attach it to a drill to confirm if you have drive motor issues.

Small Block choices: A feller has too many

The 010 blocks are good starting points. You can always put on whatever sets of heads suit your purpose. I won't suggest any cam (other than maybe a roller) or performance upgrades because everyone has their own preference, but you have some great options.

    Can I put a np203 in my 84’ K10 that originally had the 208?

Yes, a 203 will work. The last three 80s model squarebodies, an 83, and two 85s I have drug home had 203s in them, lol. I don't know why, but that is just what got swapped into them. Grab the matching driveshafts if you can.

    Bubba's Brake Bleeder: A Guide

That simple tip was passed on to me as a young rookie mechanic at a Cadillac dealership. When all the equipment is being used and you are low man on the totem pole, you learn to make do. For what it is worth, I have yet to have an issue with the proportioning valve tripping, but there really...

    Bubba's Brake Bleeder: A Guide

I use a plastic water bottle with a clear plastic tube and that is it. One end of the tube goes onto the bleeder and one end goes inside the bottle. Remove the master cylinder lid, and top off the brake fluid. Open the first bleeder and once you see it gravity bleeding, just pump the pedal a...

    88 suburban 350 rebuild questions.

Without any other infor in this thread, it would depend on what I wanted my Suburban to do. I am an old school guy; I rebuild them as they originally were with better breathing heads and maybe a little hair on the cam and send it. I'd sell the dirt track block and put the money into another one...

    Steering Box Question

Any squarebody gearbox with interchange, except a 4x4 needs one from a 4x4 and a 2WD needs one from a 2wd. I changed out a gearbox not long ago, installing one from a 76 K10 onto an 85K10. The fittings were different, however I was fortunate enough to have the matching pump and lines to swap...
