Best place to hook up vacuum gauge on Edelbrock carb (permanent and temporary)

Absolutely. For myself, I’m not looking for efficiency, just wanting to time the carb since in some areas it is rich, and others too lean depending on where the throttle is at.

    Carb backfire under load

If it is a 1406, it is a 600 cam, but more importantly it is jetted conservatively and also, the accelerator pump nozzle is amongst the smallest Eddy uses. As @Ricko1966 stated though, if it was running fine and suddenly changed, then it could be something different. If it was fine before and...

Best place to hook up vacuum gauge on Edelbrock carb (permanent and temporary)

That’s a great idea, I didn’t know they existed. Thanks!

Best place to hook up vacuum gauge on Edelbrock carb (permanent and temporary)

Oh, mostly for tuning the step up springs in conjunction with the AFR gauge so I can tune how quick or slow the fuel comes in- so I’ll need it in the cab with me. The main reason for the question is I wasn’t sure if vacuum gauges in general were “dead head” or if they had any flow through effect.

Best place to hook up vacuum gauge on Edelbrock carb (permanent and temporary)

The Eddy carb has limited ports. The trans modulator is connected to a fitting on the manifold itself, the rear (large fitting) is used by the brake booster, and the front is used for full manifold vacuum for the timing advance (not ported vacuum, the full vacuum fitting). If I tee into the...

Nice! Love the Coming To America reference. Did you get the Big Mick?

What have you done to your square lately??

Got the voltmeter taken care of. Picked up the printed circuit retaining clips from my buddy, and for sure they are a thicker gauge of metal. Took a lot more effort to snap them in as well. The other thing I noticed was one of the nuts in the back of the gauge was almost imperceptibly loose...

What have you done to your square lately??

Took it out for a cruise and got a fresh tank of ethanol free. After that, got into figuring out why my voltmeter goes in and out. I’m putting it down to cheap printed circuit clips by LMC. Wasn’t making good contact. So I tried to adjust/bend one and it snapped in half. Have some on order and...

Looks like driveshaft will need to be lengthened? Or is it just the pic? Nice upgrade!

I think that’s your temp gauge. Edit- Temp SENSOR. The gauge works better in the cluster in the cab.

    1986 Automatic Transmission Leak

I’ll just chime in to recommend the Moroso steel core silicone gasket that @edgephoto mentioned. I bought one and it’s the bees knees.

It’s back at his mom’s house. Just kidding enough of the Vice Grip Garage quotes, @82sbshortbed- nice find. Given that you drive big blocks, I’m surprised you tolerated a 305 as long as you did.

    Exhaust Question

In high school, I had a ‘76 Nova with a 305 2 bbl. Right after my dad and I got it on the road and I started driving it, the single exhaust fell off it was so rotten. My mom took pity on me and gave me a couple hundred bucks to run it down to Muffler Man and they put a set of duals with no name...

What have you done to your square lately??

I’ll check it out! Today was a challenge. So, the torque converter was a “bolt through “ design meaning there’s no threads in the converter mounting pads, you have to put nuts on the other side to clamp it down. But wait there’s more! The holes for the most part in the flex plate are 3/8, and...

What have you done to your square lately??

Man, getting a half filled torque converter into a transmission for both “clunks” to seat it in while on a wobbly transmission jack was a little bit of a workout! My jackstands wouldn’t go high enough to slide the transmission out from under the frame rails so that was awkward at best and I...

    TBI diagnosis reminder

I don’t know anything about TBI, but that is a great reference. Perhaps this could be a sticky thread, I see TBI questions all the time.

What have you done to your square lately??

STILL no torque converter yet…so I made the traditional cardboard to-do list and put it under the wiper blade. Going to pick up some ATF tonight. And be ready…I’m chomping at the bit!
