    Rear View Mirror

For what it is worth when I upgraded the mirror in my 2003 Silverado 2500HD I noticed that the basic mirror in it was the same as my '77 K20 mirror which was looking really ratty and old. I swapped them out with no problem. This was like at least 10 years ago so going off of memory here.

    Wanting 4" suspension suggestions

How much are you planning on twisting up the truck off road? The more articulation you have the more room in the wheel wells you need. If you keep the factory sway bar on then that will limit how much articulation you will get. Removing the sway bar or adding sway bar disconnects that can pivot...

never jerk a stuck truck with a chain

I was using a kinetic rope several time a month a few winters ago when going out snow wheeling with the off road club. It is amazing how well they work. IF you have the proper anchor points, the proper equipment and just give them a slight bump. You don't back all the way up and floor it to "get...

    Magnetic Block Heaters, Gas Engine?

On my first K5 Blazer it came with a soft plug engine block heater. It blew out on the highway and I lost all my coolant in about a minute. Haven't run one since. I have had several oil pan heaters of the magnetic type. Just stick them on the bottom of the oil pan and plug it in before I go to...

    K5 Blazer values… possibly buying 86 k5

Looks to be in pretty nice shape compared to some I've seen out there lately. It has the manual crank rear window- which I like. The electric ones were never as reliable. Seemed to like to quit when the window was down and it was about to rain... I had a 1986 K5 and my dad had a 1987 K5 when I...

ANYONE USED VORTEC HIGH SWIRL HEADS ON THEIR GEN-I SBC?

This really baffles me. My vortec head HT383 was basically undrivable in winter for the first 20+ minutes or so of driving. So much fuel puddled up in the cold intake manifold. That would then lead to the spark plugs clogging up. But so it went when I did research on anything with my truck...

Jet Performance Quadrajet JET Performance anyone gotz?

I bought and ran a JET 35002 stage 2 carb that I bought back in 2014. I ran it for a few months and it did well on the street but wasn't good for going up or down extreme hills nor at slow climbing at 10,000'+ So I removed it and went to fuel injection that happened to be better suited for how...

    Holley Retrobright radio interference solutions?

You could also add a ferrite to the power/ground wires to your radio. Help suppress the noise there also.

    Duct Tape Drags

I've heard about this on a few different Youtube channels I watched but didn't know details. I wish I knew more earlier as my daughter lives in Tucson and would have been an even better excuse to head down there. :( Looks like a fun event.

    Dana 44 front axle issues

There is zero binding with the tru trac and the drive slugs. Feels just like if the front end was open differential. No noises, it is almost the perfect differential. Only once I was trying to get up a "waterfall" section at the local ORV park and I had a front tire almost in the air on a wet...

BFG KO3 vs Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T

9 psi was with just my black steel wheels and that pic of my truck and the jeep- we are floating on around 6' of snow there. That was at a helicopter landing pad on top of a mountain on the east side of Flathead Lake. A year or so after this I bought beadlocks so I can get down to 2-3 psi...

BFG KO3 vs Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T

I have no idea- I haven't tracked miles but I'd say at least half my miles are on dirt or snow. The truck has turned into my offroad/play rig only. So sorry- can't comment on tire wear but I will say I have no chunking or tread damage on them. They have held up way better than my KM2s. Those...

    Dana 44 front axle issues

I don't know much about them. A jeep in my off road club has them and he loves them. Has a mechanical cable? to lock and unlock them. Seems like a good idea for a selectable locker.

BFG KO3 vs Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T

There are so many different types of snow and then it changes with the temperatures. I run around with two different off road groups and see a lot of different tires and it is quite amazing. I ran BFG KO2s for quite a while then switched to the BFG KM3. I had almost bought the cooper SST Pro-...

    Dana 44 front axle issues

Nice to hear you like the TruTrac. I put one in the D44 in the front of my truck years ago. That and the detroit locker in the rear has been perfect. I typically play in the deep snow and it doesn't hurt my turning radius like a full locker would. And I didn't have any interest in an air locker...

BFG KO3 vs Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T

There seems to be two different types of KO3 tread designs out there: There is a OE KO3 and a "regular" KO3. The "regular" one seems to be pretty new and not a whole lot of sizes available. More are coming out though.

What have you done to your square lately??

It has been over a year since I went on the last trail ride with the off road club. In fact I haven't even used the truck until last month when I finally had time to drive it to and from work that week to use up some of the old gas in it. This weekend the plan is to go spend the day on some dirt...

    New truck/SXS

Once you get some seat time in the ZR2 post your thoughts here. I had a 1998 ZR2 truck. Really liked it except for the horrible life of the front ball joints. I've been looking at the Colorado based ones for years. Leaning towards the diesel version though.

    Radiator

Thank you for that information. I bit the bullet and ordered the same radiator for my truck. Will reduce downtime swapping it out for my OEM brass one. I'll take my old one to a shop 2.5 hours away and have them rebuild it for a replacement when it is needed.

Time for new shocks. Look at these!

My dad and I have had quite a few squares over the years. Bilstein and KYB are our go to shocks. Bilsteins are more expensive and I think the KYB mono max shocks are almost as good and are $25 cheaper each if you are looking at the 4600s (blue and yellow). My dad had the KYB gas a just shocks...

How would you make this truck less ugly??

My truck had a lot of surface rust, paint was really faded but I bought the truck without a tailgate. I got one at a junk yard but a brown tailgate on a blue truck annoyed me. I tried some rattle can paint, but just didn't really hold up. A lot of the roads and trails are so narrow with tree...

    Thinkin about my Jetta

I had a 2000 VW Golf TDI with the manual transmission. The manual will last longer and give you better fuel economy. Mine had 160,000 miles on it when I started modifying it. I put in newer injectors from a T4 and that alone boosted up power a bit and fuel economy. Next was a Malone tune and...

    Traction Aid for 77 K10

There was an issue with the Eaton E-locker. They are now up to the 4th generation now (I believe). Earlier ones had to unlock then lock again as you shifted from forward to reverse. And sometimes it didn't want to lock back up. I guess the newest ones don't do that anymore- but I don't have one...
