    Gas hog

I'm in Salem and am still running a 350 with 9:1 compression and a summit K1102 cam. I've got the factory quadrajet on it and it has been dialed in with an AFR meter and is right on. I get ~8MPG towing and around 10-11MPG just driving around. I'm on 35's with a TH400/NP205 combo, so I get all...

What have you done to your square lately??

Finally got around to cleaning out my shop enough to get the truck pulled in. I bought a truxedo cover for it earlier this year and also new high strength tailgate mounts. I'm supposed to be heading out hunting this weekend and we are in the middle of an atmospheric river, so I wanted the bed...

    Gas hog

Weather got cold up here recently and they probably switched to winter blend now, which will show a few MPG lower. Your stumbling at idle makes me think vacuum leak though. Start it up and spray some carb cleaner all around the intake manifold and see if you notice an RPM change. What part of...

    Shop heater

I put a heat pump in mine after just using a portable propane one for years. It was kind of a fathers day gift to myself. ~$600 and it keeps the shop ~64 degrees in the winter and 75-ish in the summer to conserve the energy usage. I installed it myself and most of them come precharged, so you...

    Fuel economy C10 with carb

No, lower mileage in winter has nothing to do with ethanol content. You can actually get BETTER fuel mileage with a higher ethanol content up to 30% if you are properly tuning for it... but legally there is never more than 10% ethanol content in your fuel anywhere in the US unless it is E85 or...

New build 454 and the wife hates the exhaust smell

The answer is yes, cats will absolutely reduce the smell. I have dual 3" Flowmaster high flow cats on my 2011 Burb and still get a small bit of exhaust smell because they aren't enough for a slightly angry 6.2L. You don't have any need for a high flow cat on your application. Modern federal...

    More shop

These guys are right down the street from me. They seem to do a decent job and the price isn't too crazy.

What have you done to your square lately??

I rebuilt mine a few years ago because it was leaking around the input shaft. I did a full rebuild and then did the proper adjustments per the original instructions. It was a little bit tighter and didn't leak for a few months, but then it started leaking again worse than it had before. I...

This one needs to go, asking for opinions. Offering it up here first.

Honestly that isn't the real issue. If you have appropriate sized mud flaps on it, regardless of lift, it is no better or worse than any other stock vehicle. The real problem is a 12" lift with 40" tires that stick out 6" past the fender and also have no mud flaps on it at all. Even with no lift...

    Hello from Oregon

It was an option to have the wood floor. It is pretty rare. Not sure how I missed this post originally. Pretty sure I've seen this truck driving around recently. It's unfortunate that he only had the one post. Last seen February of this year.

Exhaust kit for straight through muffler?

They are literally glass packs. They are a straight through pipe with fiberglass packing around the pipe. You will get a bit more interior resonation reduction with the bigger case of the pypes, but it is still a straight through muffler. Here's some clips of real world sound with dual race...

Exhaust kit for straight through muffler?

Get the kit for offset flowmasters and run these. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/pye-mvr16?seid=srese1&ppckw=pmax-vf-pypes-performance-exhaust&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIitWepN-QiQMVaRStBh0qJwdlEAYYCSABEgL8BvD_BwE They are straight through perforated tube mufflers(basically glasspacks), but in an...

    Spark plugs

It will be an ACDelco R45TS. That was the specified plug for almost every small block(and some big block) GM engine for decades. My 71 Buick 455 uses the same plugs.

What have you done to your square lately??

I don't know what truck pump you got, but my 2011 Burb 5.3 and the 09 Denali 6.2 both used three bolts in a similar pattern to what you are showing. I have it sitting on a stand in my shop right now, I'll try to remember to get some measurements and pics. One of them had a solid pulley and the...

    What is this gauge?

Right!?!? You could pull that of and sell it to pay for what my whole truck cost me :Big Laugh:

What have you done to your square lately??

That's the first time I've EVER heard of someone blowing out remflex gaskets. I had an exhaust leak on the stock manifolds because I had the dreaded rear bolt broken off in the head on the passenger side where you couldn't get to it to extract it. I used some ICT billet bolts and remflex gaskets...

What have you done to your square lately??

I don't think GM has changed the pump body in 30 or 40 years. They just stick the same pump body into a different case. Maybe they are just so close to being the same that I assumed they are identical? I have the original one from my 1980 K25 and one from the 97 K2500 Big block that I have...

What have you done to your square lately??

Why the weird trailblazer PS system instead of just the stock PS pump from the original motor? The pulley shaft(and pump as far as I can tell) are identical between my original K25 PS pump and the one on my 2011 Burb and the L9H donor motor I bought. They were all interchangeable.

What have you done to your square lately??

huh... almost looks like it's melting the mount out. Weird. I definitely recommend flex fittings, but that isn't likely to be the reason for the leak. I'd swap to the Remflex gaskets and never worry about it again. I've never had good luck with the MLS sealing with headers.

    TBI distributor 454/7.4L

All TBI and Vortec distributors in the GMT-400's are .427". That gear PN i gave you is for a stock .427 shaft Vortec distributor. Here's a long thread on the GMT-400 forum talking about almost an identical situation to what you are going through...

    TBI distributor 454/7.4L

Factory 97-up 7.4L distributor gear is the answer here. I put one on my 97 K2500 454 when I rebuilt everything. It's a factory AC Delco part. GM PN 10457708 Its a melonized gear for the factory billet hydraulic roller cams.

    Collapsed upper radiator hose

It's returning the air to the return side of the pump... which is also full of coolant from the radiator. It's not going to allow a bubble of air to sit in the intake under the T-stat. It's not quite as good as having the return into the radiator, but the return to the pump is really only on the...

How to Tell which Axles I have?

  24. Bextreme04

    Collapsed upper radiator hose

The thermostat hole or bobber really isn't necessary on most squarebodies because the heater core acts as a vent for any air in the engine anyways. The way that the heater system runs allows the pump to vent all the air out of the engine through the heater core and out to the radiator. You will...

Why doesn't anyone use the Chevy "Connect & Cruise" packages?

If it has the L92, then it would be an 07.5 with a 6L80. It takes me about 4 hours to get the trans out now that I know what to do and everything is not frozen together, so 12 book hours sounds about right. Are you thinking you will be trying to swap that into your 80' K10? You should probably...
