1986 C10- Is it reliable enough for a daily driver?

I drove a '54 pickup for 4 years, it was 20-24 years old. It ran well every day - that is back when vehicles did not usually last 80k mi.

Header back exhaust fitment for C20 454

How much difference does the 3" crossover with 3" tubes all the way back vs a 3" equalizer tube really make? I remember adding a 2nd pipe and muffler for dual exhaust on 1 7/8", 2" and 2 1/2" pipe making a huge difference. I suspect that on an engine with less than a 400 HP capacity, the...

    Best Choice for Drivetrain

RV cams are replacement cams for otherwise stock engines. They have more grunt(torque) at the low end - they have a flatter torque line through out. They are not designed to go over 5000 rpm(neither are stock engines). These give you the power you need without the smog requirements. They do NOT...

    1 Ton with a 10' foot bed

The Longhorn had an extra 6" added to an 8' bed. There was room to add a custom gas tank in front of a standard camper - they all were wooden floor beds - not 10' long

Please help me make a decision

I would think that a K20 would have a TH400, but maybe the 4wds did not. The 400 is stronger than a 350, but they are strong and do not cost a months pay to overhaul. These vehicles are not known for their great gas mileage, there is little you can do(other than keep your foot out of it) to help...

How to pick the correct headers...

How about using Rams Horns? They fit, are easy to hook up and don't get in the way. Unless you are expecting 6500 rpm, I wouldn't overthink it.

Can you make a 305 stroker with 350 crank and rods?

I remember using a steel 283 crank and putting in in a 327(back in the day) We called it a 301. Popup pistons 11 1/2 to 1 with double hump heads. That would get a bucket T, a shoebox or an early Nova to scoot. The Z28 302 was the same idea, with 4 bolt mains or the special racing mains, but you...

1991 GMC Suburban Overland build Question(s),

I considered putting on a roof rack on mine and in looking it over, I came to the conclusion that maybe to best mount point would be to drill holes through the side pillars near the shoulder harness mounts, bend some 3/16 stock and cut and/or weld to fit. If you want a big rack, there are 3...

    Intake is Outgoing

You have a 1 ton, so you might be able to get away with a lot more than others. The standards in the 70s and 80s were different in Ca those years, some on trucks that had the same equiptment. You truck was obviously used(and probably purchased as a trailering special), so you have to go with...

California Square Body fans - Proposal to extend smog exemption model years

It would be a lot cheaper to just put the parts back. Ca smog laws are a nightmare for anyone who prefers older vehicles. Believe me, they want to get 3/4 and 1 ton trucks and SUVs off the road ASAP.

    I-Talian Tune UP

We used to say blowing the spiders out by opening up the secondaries on the 4 barrel carb(like no one did driving around town). Where does Marvel Mystery Oil come in here? I remember dumping a can in and soaking the top end for a couple of days - bringing back an old junk yard I6.

Timing on GM GoodWrench Crate Engine?

Because the whole economy is based on buying new, not renovating the old(which is the true purpose of recycling). They ignore the pollution manufacturing causes, the pollution cause by electrical plants, the impact the batteries will cause when they have finished their life cycle, ect. Ca is...

What is the best oil to run in 1984 C10 with high-milage stock 305?

You could run olive oil or even Wesson oil, as long as it is clean. Yes, modern oils do have better characteristics, but I would leave what you have in there for a few thousand miles and then change the filter and use straight 30 wt(or 10-30) for the summer. It isn't rocket surgery.

Think I need new springs? shocks? ROUGH RIDE

Get some penetrating oil on all these parts and hit with a hammer to warm them up. Drive for a few days and the oil may work its way in, so you can break the threads loose. The trick is to douse them early and set up some movement.

    Hypothetical SBC question

A friend back in high school had an old Ford truck with a flat head, that sounded real lopey, but was weak. We tore it apart and found that someone had pulled a piston and cut up a suede jacket to use as gaskets on the pan. He had pulled 2 tappets from that cylinder, if I remember correctly. It...

    Steering column bearing help!

Where do you live? If you live in a big city or near an industrial center, I would take the bearing to a bearing supply company. It isn't like GM manufactures these bearings, they usually use something that was already made.

    Battery kill switch

I put a blinking led under the dash(very little draw). They see it , they don't know what it is and they move on to another vehicle to steal.
