‘83 K5 350/4wd: aftermarket oil psi switch/sender/choke heater wiring question w/pics and schematic

Hey no problem. For whatever reason I find the wiring on these trucks to be pretty straight forward. Glad I could help.

‘83 K5 350/4wd: aftermarket oil psi switch/sender/choke heater wiring question w/pics and schematic

Here is a snip of the 1984 wiring diagram from the GM service manual. I can't say what changes there may be from 83 to 84. There seem to be some differences with your Haynes diagram. It's been a while since I wired this up myself, but my understanding of the pink/white wire (circuit 350) is...

‘83 K5 350/4wd: aftermarket oil psi switch/sender/choke heater wiring question w/pics and schematic

I think your understanding of that circuit is a little backwards. The reason the choke is wired with the oil pressure sensor is to prevent the choke from opening when the key is left on. The way it operates is the sensor closes and passes current at a predetermined oil pressure. Something like...

Thanks for the really fast responses! I'll have to pick up a new drum I guess.

    700R4 Information Thread

I was hoping to avoid buying a new drum as this one wasn't warped noticeably and wasn't the cursed first design. Also I already have a replacement band, whichever comes in this kit here. My old (and new) frictions measure out to .07. I have the aluminum piston. Would you still say that my only...

    700R4 Information Thread

Hey @NickTransmissions do you have a source for different sized belleville plates or backing plates on the reverse input drum? When I went to put mine back together my clearances seem to be too tight. Between the backing plate and the snap ring I'm seeing .025 to .030 which by the book is too...

    1991 Burb 2500 4x4

Looks like a nice rig. I've got no real insight other than whoever ends up purchasing it is going to be one happy camper. Love the red on red. Good luck with your sale!

    Davis Off Road, crossover steering???

Those power steps for regular cabs with saddle tanks are really slick. I wasn't aware that there were any kits for that.

    Weird solenoid looking thing

Yeah the factory charcoal canister is pretty slick. There is a thread on here on what each connection is for here. The short of it is the vent line from the fuel tank runs to one of the ports on it. One of the ports runs to the same line as PCV vacuum. Another runs to I believe ported vacuum...

    Summit Brand Headers???

I haven't bought their headers, but in my experience Summit quality is pretty good. Not getting top of the line but I think they are good quality for the money on most things. My summit brand carb and alternator have been great so far. Also they are the best place to buy car batteries. No core...

A Technical Comedy [Only After the Fact]

Crazy tale! If you are ever in the situation again I think you can just pull the pink 12v feed wire to the HEI. It's a little hard to reach, but it slides down right out of the HEI. Depending on how worn it is you can often get it out with just your thumb nail.

1987 GMC Jimmy 4x4 6" lift body mount bushing replacement

I've always heard that for body mounts you want rubber and not poly. These aren't race cars, you want a little give in your bushing. Lmc and most of the other big parts places sell body bushing kits. Your lift shouldn't be a consideration for which bushings to buy. With suspension lifts the...

    Electrical help identification.

Rockauto has a decent connection of connectors, although their names don't always match the actual connector. Helps to have a picture of your connector to compare against.

Prebent brake lines for a 87 R30 long bed regular cab?

The nickel copper lines are awesome for doing it yourself. I did my whole truck without a bender, just used my hands and some sockets for tighter bends. Flares super easy, is corrosion resistant, and easy to handle without special tools. It's the only thing I'm going to use going into the...

Help Please - Fighting new Gremlins

To me it sounds like a ground problem. As grounds degrade their current carrying capacity goes down. By adding your new rear light circuit you exceeded your current capacity for your grounds. Since then you're just playing whack-a-mole with what circuit has a good enough ground path to function...

Exhaust pipe kits from @mazon/ eBay

I really liked the DIY kit I got from speedway motors. The pipes are mandrel bent and thicker steel than what's on hand at the parts store. I bought a little section from O'Reilly to finish when I ran short and the difference in quality was significant.

81-83 vs 84-87 Cab Mount Question

I did this exact swap and put an 83 cab on an 85 frame. I used the later mounts and had no issues.

    Missing air vent component?

The part of the blower you can see is the intake. The hvac pulls in fresh air from that void in the cab. It's fed fresh air from the cowl. Being able to see it like that is normal. My guess as to your flow problems is worn out seals. The blend doors and individual joints in the airflow path...

    E-brake options after BIG lift?

How big of a lift are you talking? From looking at this snip the easiest option to me is extend that bracket downward enough that the stock length cables reach. Then add the necessary extensions to the cable length on the left of that union piece. The good news with extending down that frame...

    Scratching my head

My guess is check the condition of your battery positive wires at this point. If you've eliminated the grounds as an issue that is. The coil will probably have a cutoff voltage where it stops working. So with everything on the voltage provided to the coil must be falling below this level. Start...

    One more electrical plug identification

That's sweet that that is available. I had no idea these were out there. The tech section on the forum has scans of the service manuals. I printed all the wiring diagrams from one out on 11x18 sheets and laminated them myself. Worked great except they are only as good as the scans. That website...

    Wire identification help

The factory 12 v path is battery, then starter, then junction block, then those 2 power wires into the cab. Anything in the engine bay that needs power is fed by those two wires and is fused inside the cab on the fuse panel before heading back out into the engine bay through the firewall...
