    Finally got a running 65 C10

Just make sure there is no burr or raised area that might rub the chain from the break. I think you'll be ok to run it.

Searching for My Dad's 1979 Chevy Suburban

How much is the truck lifted? I believe after 4" crossover steering is recommended. I'm sure there were/are plenty of trucks that are lifted at 4" and beyond and not using a crossover setup. I'd investigate the steering box, seems like the aftermarket for them is a pretty big crap shoot. Due to...

    Double Dingo's 1965 3/4 Ton "Crusty Biscuit"

And what doesn't help is working on vehicles it's not the worst idea to hold onto old parts even if replacing with new for reference or incase the new parts are no good (which unfortunately seems to be happening more and more)

1985 C20: Power to cab, will not start when key is in "on" position

The neutral safety witch on these trucks (automatics) are on the steering column, sometimes they get can get out of adjustment for various reasons. They should allow the truck to be started in park or neutral, with your foot in the brake you can hold the key in the start position and pull the...

My buddy had a picture, can barely see it, but there's a couple teeth missing there, there was other spots that were missing 5 or 10 teeth.

    GMT 800 10 bolt in 87 K5

Perches and mounts can be bought from numerous sources. Barnes4wd, summit, jegs, your local auto parts might carry the spring perches.

Don’t think I have any pictures but the two 9.5s I had taken apart it G80 Gov Bombs, both of them had chipped or missing teeth in the mechanism. As far as I know both were still in service before pulled, they could have used a trip to the dentist… The theory of the G80 is very clever, but in...

    Rear Splash Panel

This is what they look like if that is the splash shield being talked about: Right hand Left hand My friend's 75 K5 has them, My 76 C10 had them (rotted off), My 79 didn't have them, and the 85 I parted didn't have them either.

Mounts and spring perches will need to be cut off and have new ones welded in in the correct locations.

Personally I’d go with a clutch type limited slip, Yukon dura grip or similar, or the Eaton “posi” (same thing). They can be “adjusted” with different springs and playing with the clutch packs to have the desired amount of preload. I installed a duragrip in an 05 ram 2500(AAM 11.5), 14b semi...

    Finally got a running 65 C10

65 is a Z bar clutch isn’t it? Or is it a hydraulic clutch like the earlier 60s trucks? Depends on what you want, if you want a “true truck trans” the SM420 would be the correct 4 speed truck trans for one of those trucks. About a 6:1 first gear and 1:1 fourth. No shifter needed as it’s part of...

Agree on changing freeze plugs, because it’ll never be the one that’s easy to get to that starts leaking. Always be on the back of the block or behind the motor mounts.

BBC 396 wil not idle with any carb

You were checking timing with the vacuum advance disconnected and plugged correct? What type of timing light? Dial back? Use a piston stop to re qualify the balancer and remark TDC. I'm not sure on big blocks, but small blocks have two or three locations for timing pointer. For example my...

    Double Dingo's 1965 3/4 Ton "Crusty Biscuit"

Having been through a similar, but different situation with my Ram, I'd put your main focus on the mechanicals, frame and suspension, stuff that will make it drive right. Use what you can find or have for body panels, then focus more sharply on them later. But I wouldn't worry about the bed or...

5.7 back fires through carb but timing is good.

It’s got to come off if you are going to pull the heads anyways. If I were you I’d- -Pull the intake -Remove (loosen) all of the rockers so the valves are all closed -put your leak down tester on one plug hole at a time -fill the intake ports with water, kerosene, diesel. Some liquid that won’t...

5.7 back fires through carb but timing is good.

Vacuum gauge can tell a lot. Has the engine ever been over revved that you know of? I’m thinking valve issue, wether it be worn/bad seats, guides (which would aide in wearing the seats), bent valves, cracked, etc. That’s just my thoughts, without seeing or hearing it that’s just speculation...

My 2¢, I’ve had very good luck with Lube Locker gaskets. They are a little pricier than a standard gasket, but they seal up good and are reusable. I’ve got about 8 of their gaskets in service right now, the trans, front and rear diffs in the Cummins, trans and rear end in my 79, trans of my...

Doubledingo's other 65 C20, Mean Green(Frame), and other parts from various trucks

The 1 ton from Northern Tool sometimes goes on sale for sub $500, I opted for the 2 ton since more is better generally. Since you are in Ohio, you might keep an eye on HGR surplus for a used "real" gantry (one that is actually or was certified for the weight). More height is good too, that 11...
