Looking for confirmation here as to whether purchase of a new Eaton MLocker is even an option for my rig. Seems like it would be, but my inquiries to Eaton and its closest retailer have been unsuccessful. Eaton’s website has a recommendation function but it only points me to its aftermarket options like the TrueTrac.

The reason I am asking is because I am considering replacing my open differential with something that provides more traction in slippery conditions. The problems I’m having tend to be moving from a stopped position on loose gravel or snow/ice. From what I’ve read, the MLocker/G80 is well suited for dealing with those problems.

This forum seems to have plenty of strong opinions about the G80, both for and against. Regardless, GM continues to put the MLocker in its trucks. That’s why it’s on my list of options to consider.

Mine is a 1980 RWD with a 12-bolt cover. It’s a daily driver on 80% pavement. Tires are Michelin Defender LTX M/S2.

I think the truetrac would suit your needs. Not sure if the G80 is available aftermarket

Personally I’d go with a clutch type limited slip, Yukon dura grip or similar, or the Eaton “posi” (same thing).

They can be “adjusted” with different springs and playing with the clutch packs to have the desired amount of preload.

I installed a duragrip in an 05 ram 2500(AAM 11.5), 14b semi float for a 75 blazer, and in my own 79 12 bolt.
