Steering Column needs to be rebuild

Yes - that was one of my ideas - drilling into the lock bar across from the holes to drive the pins out. 3 new bits later and I barely scratched the thing. If I can figure out a way to protect the rest of the interior from flying grit I'll give the cutoff wheel a go, but I don't want to get...

Steering Column needs to be rebuild

I took a couple pics when I got home from work: Keyswitch side Overhead Turn signal side As best I can tell, the locking bars slide over vertical flanges along the upper and lower seams and keep it from sepearating into its 2 halves. There is a matching lock bar on the bottom but...

Steering Column needs to be rebuild

I'll take some tonight when I get home from work. I don't know if the column armor was installed strictly for anti-theft (not a bad idea in principle) or to hide already-existing damage.

    Throttle cable way too long

I got mine to stop sticking (also seems too long) by removing the plastic part on the movable end - that is what was binding because of the weird angle. Probably will wear out the entry to the actual sheath faster, but I was having problems with it sticking and requiring excessive foot pressure...

Steering Column needs to be rebuild

I need to have this done also - but have the added complication of some sort of hardened steel anti-theft armor over the column that has destroyed most of a set of Kobalt drill buts with barely a divit to show for results. I'd really like to find a non-tilt column and just be done with the...

1987 454 TBI stalls at idle after a short time

This is so similar to my intermittant problem where the truck just shuts off randomly - it hadn't happend for a few months and then just Tuesday I was riding along and had total power loss (but ignition was still on/live because all gauges were still responding, alternator was still outputting...

    1991 Burb Overhead Console Lights

I did this exact same thing with mine a couple years ago - forget which bulb # I used but it was a direct replacement LED. Now one of my push button switches has failed (fortunately in the OFF position so I don't have to rip the whole thing apart just to turn it off) - I'd like to replace that...

Old man constantly asked to drop his truck.Any stock height C10s left in the world??

I took a couple pix of the Suburban for reference - not lowered or LS swapped. It has a couple dings here and there; but this is also the side that had the left front door crunched in when someone backed into it in a parking area. My local independant body shop did a great job on it. You can...

Old man constantly asked to drop his truck.Any stock height C10s left in the world??

Nahh - I have a 1989 3/4 ton Suburban on all-original suspension with the factory 454....its under a car cover right now (and getting dark out) so no up-to-date pic; its the one in my profile thumbnail though.

    Really tight front brakes!

I'm glad you brought that up! I didn't know a twist in the line could case a drag either - I suspect one of the front lines on my British project has a twist (not yet been driven but doesn't look like a smooth clean loop) so I will be redoing that line (possibly both).

I hink that truck looks just perfect as it is - rare to see an unmolested one these days.

    Quadrajet Primary Shaft Bushings

Moss Motors sells a kit with the bushings and a reamer, so I know they parts are available - just their kit is pricey and I'm not sure I could pull it off successfully without actual machining tools. If I can find spares, you may be getting a call (I have no doubt you have the skill and tooling...

Engine & transmission removal & reinstall general tips

I always prefer to install engine and transmission as a single unit, mainly because (especially with manual transmissions) it is so much easier (both on me AND the input shaft bearings) to get the engine and transmission mated together on the bench or floor. If you have a cast iron intake it...

    Quadrajet Primary Shaft Bushings

I saw a video of an ingenious guy from somewhere in the Middle East who found valve stem seals that could be used as a stopgap on the SU side drafters. I want to do bushing in both my Suburban's TBI and the British SUs, but I don't want to risk destroying my only existing ones in the attempt...

    Quadrajet Primary Shaft Bushings

I think I need to get this process done on my TBI throttle body - there is definite play on the butterfly shaft. This is also a common problem on the 50 year old SU side-drafters found on British cars (which I also need to get done).

    90 V2500 Burb restoration

My 1989 has the rear A/C intact (mostly, a lot of the plastic clips and holders are broken but all the components are there and functional). Can you be more precise with the description of "blocked off"? Are the lines cut and capped at the rear? Blocked off in the engine bay? Removed completly??

Kobalt vs dewalt for a sawzall

Agreed. My Ryobi gas saw leaks bar oil all over the inside of the case - have some old pillowcases in the bottom to keep it from making a mess all over the floor of the shed or truck bed. I just figure it identifies as British - if its not leaking oil, its OUT of oil.

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

A related question: How does one actually go about actually measuring the air/fuel ratio? And where on the engine would you measure from?

    1988 Suburban Door Locks

I have a 1989 Suburban with power locks. The ECU is in no way linked to the power door locks. The rear door does have a power lock motor as well as the 4 passenger doors. The driver side door unlatches with a small finger tab down at the lower corner and is not lockable (it can't be opened...

    87 r10 TBI

If you find a tilt column and want to sell your non-tilt one, let me know. I am looking for a non-tilt one and I'm pretty sure the 1987 will fit my 1989 Suburban. I'd offer a trade-out by my existing column (which is a tilt) is really loose and wobbly which apparently happens to all of them...

Advice on GM 14 Bolt Corporate Full Float w/3.73 gears that are junk

My R2500 Suburban (1989/454/TH400) came with the trailer tow package and has the 14bolt full floater setup with 3.73 gears. I'm generally not pulling 5000 pound trailers around so it works out fine.

Brought home my first square body. 1980 Silverado C10. Utah

You can still watch Vice Grip Garage on his Youtube channel. VGG, Puddin's Fab Shop and Mortske Repair (all on youtube) frequently do "first startup in a long time" episodes, I like the way VGG does it a little better because he recommends priming the carb with 2 stroke fuel/oil mix to give some...

    1982 250cu fuel issue

I had a brand new mechanical fuel pump on a Jeep (using the GM 4 cylinder "iron duke" engine) that failed after the first startup - probably the same pump your GM 6 cylinder uses. I'd pull the line off the inlet side, run a temp. hose to a gas can or boat fuel tank and see if it pulls fuel from...

Starter drag when engine is warm

Very true - my Jeep uses a ford-style external solenoid and I had an aftermarket one stick "on" - good way to ruin a starter if the engine actually starts and runs.

Starter drag when engine is warm

My old F250 used to do this exact same thing - crank like mad when cold but I had to park on hills when I went to the store and find a gas pump with a slope away from the fueling position because if you turned it off hot, you'd have a 45 minute wait to get it going again unless you did the old...
