Can't get my vent windows out

Everyone: So after fighting with my window felt for over a week now, it looks to me as though I just need to pull my vent windows, put the felt channel in, and then reinstall. I've looked through youtube, watched the Brothers video on vent window removal, but I still can't get it out. The video...

    Window Felt Replacement

Hmm, I was kinda wondering if that's what I'd hear. I've go a v3500, so I've got 4 of them to do. If I come up with any great ideas that make it easier, I'll share. Aaron

    Window Felt Replacement

Hi all: I'm having the same problem as the original poster. I'd tried silicone spray, and I'm still getting stuck. I'm doing ok on the back of the windows, since I can get a pair of needlenose in there from underneath to pull down while I push from the top. The fronts of the windows, though, no...

    Making multipurpose shops work

I've got a large, 4500 cfm dust collector, that sits outside my shop wall, with a trunk line that goes under my footer and then under the shop floor and which I'm gradually getting all my tools hooked up to. I've been contemplating some sort of large plastic curtain between the two sides of my...

    Making multipurpose shops work

Hey everyone. So I'm mostly a woodworker, but am currently finishing up my 89 V3500, and have a good bit more mechanicing to do, in future, including on couple more squarebody pickups. Anyway, I've got concrete floor on one side of my shop, and wood floor on the other, with one great big wood...

How do you guys clean primer before top coating?

A coat of self etching with a couple coats of sandable primer over that. I got it from van sickle paints. You thin the sandable primer with lacquer thinner, if that helps ID what kind it is. I hadn't thought of tack cloth, which is weird, since I'm mostly a woodworker... Aaron

How do you guys clean primer before top coating?

I got my cab all primed and sanded and more or less ready to paint. I'm not sure that I'm getting all the sanding dust off the primer though. I started off using acetone, and quit, when I discovered that I could actually rub through the primer with that. Live and learn.... then I just went to...

Best way to fix broken shock mount studs

yeah, that's why I was contemplating cutting off the rivets that hold on the brackets, drill a hole, inserting a bolt, and then welding the brackets back on. I ended up trying the weld-on-a-bolt method. I hooked up the shock at the bottom end, and then was able to see where the upper bolt...

    pittsburg torque wrench

I've tightened the others well past where I did get the one bolt to click, so it sounds to me as though my wrench probably defective. That's a good idea, about returning the defective one in the old box. That sounds like a plan to me. Particularly since I live 2 hours from the nearest HF store...

Best way to fix broken shock mount studs

Thanks for the replies, that simplifies my life, not having to cut the rivets off to remove the whole mounting bracket. It looks as though the steel on the bracket is 3/16 or so, so I would think I'd be able to get a pretty solid weld on it, as you said. Aaron

    pittsburg torque wrench

I tried again, and am not hearing two clicks. If it is clicking at all, it's so subtle that I may be getting it confused with the little creaks made by the washer against the cab mount. Per your question, I've tried it on multiple bolts, too. It may be that I'm just not listening for the...

    pittsburg torque wrench

I'm trying to torque my new cab mounts to the specified 55 foot pounds. I picked up a cheapie Horror Fright 1/2 drive torque wrench a while back, figuring that it would be fine for occasional use. (Maybe I was wrong...). I've gotten it to click on exactly one bolt, so far, and I can't get it...

Best way to fix broken shock mount studs

All: So after days of soaking, heat, soaking, heat...., I broke both upper mounting studs for my rear shocks. I picked up some grade 8 bolts that should work but am contemplating the best way to fix them. I could cuts the mounting brackets off, drill a hold through where the original mounting...

Trying to figure out my new cab mounts

Thanks, Sly. Based on your kit, it looks like I'm doing it right. I'm at that stage where you don't know what you don't know... Aaron

Trying to figure out my new cab mounts

Brief update: So I rechecked LMC's wesbite, so make sure I hadn't missed any parts. (https://www.lmctruck.com/1973-87-chevy-gmc/body-mounting/cc-1973-87-polyurethane-cab-mount-bushing-set) The kit I ordered said it came in a 16 piece set, which works out right: I've got 8 of the two piece...

Trying to figure out my new cab mounts

Hi all, I'm trying to make sure I get these new cab mounts put together correctly, and am scratching my head. So the big "washer" with the prong and the oblong hole in it, on the left, goes on top, right under the frame, right? Then, according to the picture, I should have the vaguely...

Is this grille worth trying to fix?

Hmm, I'll bet the book that was with the truck when I got it, was a general book for both R and V models, and I just put that down without thinking too much about it. It's a 4x4, so I guess that makes it a V3500 rig. Aaron

Is this grille worth trying to fix?

That's a good point: If I run out of money, which seems increasingly likely, I could just hit it with some paint and replace it later. Maybe I'll make a stencil and spray paint "Brandon Inflation" on it. :-) While I'm at it, a few years ago, a mechanic friend was telling me that he hated those...

Is this grille worth trying to fix?

I'm not particularly attached to this grille or anything, but am starting to run up against the end of my budget for this project, so if I can fix this one without driving myself crazy, I'd like to. Had thought of trying to weld in some patches, and then hit the grille with some heavy rhino...

    Dump Bed Question

Thanks for the replies, everyone. My truck just has the basic 3 speed transmission in it. I'd seen that vevor outfit, when I did some google searches before. The bed is about 5 hours away. I was just up there yesterday, but didn't think to measure the cylinders to figure out how much oil I'll...

    Dump Bed Question

All: So I'm in the middle of rehabbing my 89 crew cab. I gave a guy 300 bucks for a running 1980 dually that had a good flat bed on it, which I'd then intended to cut down to the right size for my non-dually crew cab. However... I've got a friend who has a dump flat bed that came off a 76...

    Gorilla spray for headliner

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I noticed that when I pulled my old headliner out, that uit looked at though there was some sort of tape holding it to the cab roof. Is that some kind of double sided tape? Aaron

    Gorilla spray for headliner

hmm, I hadn't considered the heat and bleed-through issues. The latter shouldn't matter, since I'm using a faux leather material that's pretty thick, but the heat could be. Maybe I'd better get something else. If this stuff looks good, I may use it on my door panel, too; I'll bet I could use the...

    Gorilla spray for headliner

I bought some Gorilla spray glue, for gluing my new headliner down to the pad. Now I see that it says on the can: "not recommended for headliners." Grrr. Can anyone think of why that might be? Anyone used it anyway, and had good results? Aaron
