Also greased both driveshafts at every grease joint I could find and all the steering ends. The rear driveshaft is going to make a mess when it starts spinning lol

    Edelbrock 1405 carb running rich

Tightened the manifold bolts today. Two on the drivers side center were a little more than hand tight, spraying carb cleaner did not effect the idle anymore. Although my vacuum gauge still only reads about 14-17ish at idle. sometimes it idles down to around 550(14 inhg) and other times it only...

Replaced alternator now truck is charging properly. Here’s a better sound clip of what it does under quick wot. It sounds sorta like a two step limiter or something of that nature. Video was taken in park. Does this sound like it needs more tuning? Or the flaps need adjusted. If I would’ve...

    Quadrabog bogs

Just watched the whole video, gonna go buy a new alternator and “start tweaking on it to get the bog out” to stop lol. Based on how easy his flapped around in the video I’m thinking mine might be too tight. I’m just hoping I have a small enough hex key and flat head lol.

Where on the carb should I hook the vacuum gauge to for manifold vacuum? I’m not familiar enough with q-jet vacuum routing. I added coolant last night and I’ll work on it again later I just don’t know which port is manifold.

Also not positive how important it is, but the ground strap from the frame to the back of the cab is not connected it is broken at the eyelet.

One of you says looks normal one says too tight, I can possibly loosen it some?

    Quadrabog bogs

I worked on the belt and used my flat bar to move the alternator over a little more and it isn’t squealing. But I’ve got more problems after that as well. Still not charging and I can hear and exhaust leak tick under throttle. Although not white smoking today it still did get warm.(haven’t added...

At idle I saw the flap was open, but get watching the video again I noticed it closes after letting off throttle. Here’s the video of the carb as I’m giving throttle.

    Quadrabog bogs

Alright finally got time, the rear driveshaft slip joint has some play all the ujoints are are tight but the slip joint has slack. The choke is opening fully and under WOT how much do the secondary doors open? They’re way harder to open with the engine running than they were the other day. They...

    Quadrabog bogs

I’m not too familiar with quadrajet vacuum hose routing, where should it be ran to and what’s missing? I’ll replace what’s missing yo keep this truck going how it’s meant to run. Also what gear do I need to be in for testing the ujoints

Oh trust me oil is dripping from every low spot including the starter and the oil drain bolt. But I’m having a scenario similar to the 78 where oil going up and onto the intake manifold lol. Im gonna buy yet another timing light so I can see where this one is at and redo the intake gasket on the 78.

    Quadrabog bogs

I can tighten them a little bit later on, I’m on lunch right now. I’m hoping they aren’t the torx bolts but I haven’t even looked. It leaks a healthy bit of oil but I’m starting to think that’s just common on these. There’s a sticker in the window dated back in 2020 that said next oil change at...

    Quadrabog bogs

What makes you think this truck needs an intake gasket? I can tighten them when I get off work but the truck runs smooth in neutral and park my only problems are in reverse and drive.

No it was in park the truck turned off and trans in park. No one specified if I needed to be in a certain gear and I was alone so I felt safer leaving it in park lol.

    Quadrabog bogs

I don’t know how relevant this is but the truck also doesn’t move in gear on its own it takes a fair bit of throttle to get rolling, it may be a trans issue or not running ideal or that I’ve just never had one of these trucks in automatic

    Quadrabog bogs

Both driveshafts feel stiff with no movement in any direction including rotating. I checked the oil again and it looks great little dark could probably use a change but it doesn’t look like a Reese milkshake. I didn’t see anything that looks like an obvious vacuum modulator but I didn’t look too...

    Quadrabog bogs

I’ll have to google about the modulator to see a picture since I have 0 idea what I’m looking for. I’ll go shake both driveshafts now.

    Quadrabog bogs

How could I verify ujoint? Watch under the truck when someone puts it in gear? The front one has been replaced at some point it’s too shiny looking to be original. How do I check the “diaphragm on the vacuum modulator on the tranny”?

@SirRobyn0 ive watched the video, I rewatched them just now. This truck starts right up idles just fine and all except the in gear wot. I’m not sure if it was audible in the video but is a like bell sound common after switching to drive or reverse? The truck makes a ding kinda sound after I put...

I’m 100% fine with running a quadrajet. I think it’s a great carb when done right. Everyone goes edelbrock for simplicity and holley for performance my honest opinion. This truck is based solely around reliability and fuel economy.

    Quadrabog bogs

I checked the oil the other day and it looks fine. Not like a Reese milkshake. I’ve tightened it as much as I can by myself I’ll have to have someone pry it over while I tighten bolts and try again

    Quadrabog bogs

I’ll work on getting a timing light asap since I need it to redo the timing on the 78 when I change intake manifold gaskets. I have a multimeter and a vacuum gauge. I’ll t into a vacuum line with a gauge after it cools. The battery is obviously too small for the truck in my opinion. The...

Here’s some photos regarding the smoke. Coolant is low, I just changed the heater core so it was freshly filled. There is moisture in the exhaust, and it is really black in the exhaust.

Yes that is what I did, the smaller annoying flat head screws are the mix screws the nice bigger flat head screw attached to the throttle linkage is the idle speed screw.
