    Big Block Bearing inspection...

Is there an earlier thread related to this one? Not sure if I missed something, but what symptoms led to a bad oil pump diagnoses? Checking pressure with a mechanical gauge would be step one for me. If the engine has a knock, opening the filter and looking for debris would be the direction I...

    K20/K30 bolt patterns

They are all 16's as well, so that will be handy. Will be mounting 37's for the '86 and it's trailer. That won't be much good for the '08, but it is the daily driver.

    K20/K30 bolt patterns

Great, thanks and interesting. Maybe my '08 2500 will fit as well then? Thought centers might be smaller but honestly didn't compare side by side. May toss one of the summers in the back and try it on the project D30 this weekend.

    K20/K30 bolt patterns

Does the K20 and K30(single axel) share the same wheel nut pattern in '86? Looking to pick up a 2wd K20 as a parts truck for some little stuff. Hoping I can use the front hubs/spindles to build a trailer axel, but would like for them to share common spare tires. If not, will wait it out for...

6.2 For A Daily Driver? What Are The Downsides?

That is really sad. I just picked up an '86 and it is crazy solid. At almost 40 years old, there is no rust. Everywhere there is a void, it was sprayed from I assume the factory? There are little plugs in doors jams and underside of cab and corners. Even the doors were sprayed internally with...

    Transmission Swap Mishaps

A synchronizer is required in the 205's when used with auto locking hubs. They were not added until the early 80's. Is it possible yours does not have it? https://www.offroaddesign.com/tech/offroad-design-transfer-cases-knowledge/offroad-design-np-205-technical-information I am not sure you can...

What plans do you have for your trucks

Off the grid adventuring. Suspension, tires and pullers.

    front end alignment

It's a good practice to roll your truck back and then forward with it's weight on the ground and then rechecking your adjustment. It adds the "normal load" to the steering components that will be seen while driving down the road.

    Adding a Suburban Gas tank

What size tank were you able to add in the back? Would like to add a tank to mine when I get going on it. Keeping fillers on the same side, along with the additional capacity of a blazer/suburban tank, is of great importance to me. Should add, I did read through your build thread over the past...

    6.2 to 350 swap

Going to be starting a 5.7 install in the next couple weeks on a new to me '86 that was originally 6.2. Keep up with your posts. Sounds like we may be fumbling through it at the same time.

    D30 Wiring

Thanks Jeremy. I will check them out. No plans for going back to the diesel for myself. Diesel prices up here are quite bit higher than gas. Fuel system adjustments (incl. pulling tank) will be at the top of the list, but that is pretty straight forward. Still in the planning stage in regards to...

    D30 Wiring

There seems to be some members on this site that are knowledgeable with the 12/24V electrical systems in these trucks. Curious if anyone has any resources available or suggestions on where to look for wiring diagrams for them. Had a look under the hood of the new to me '86 this morning and all...

Not at all and thank you! Sorry if my responses came across that way. Will be doing a different build for this truck likely next winter. I won't be using the marine stuff on that one. The Mercruiser V ignition system with knock control gives full timing advance at about 1800 rpm. It looks for...

It is my understanding that octane actually reduces the BTU's (ponies) in fuel. It is used to prevent detonation in the higher compression engines which is where the horsepower is gained. I haven't decided on a build yet but really hoping for this one to work great. It would be nice if I could...

Right on! I spent my early days in Smithers and finished high school in Maple Ridge in the 80's. Back when it was still farm country. Haven't been to Anahim but did spend a lot of time running up to the Caribou country whenever I could back then. Have been back up in the north here for the last...

Interesting and I appreciate the time you spent writing this all out. Thanks. I think you missed my vague point though. I live in northern BC and the price of premium fuel here over $2/liter. It is also not always available in some of the remote areas I travel to. How do you come up with several...

You kind of lost me here a bit. This truck is geared pretty low. I am thinking more of a lower compression build to run 87 and get some longevity out it and the truck itself. This will just be an off road crawler for me usually with a small jet boat in tow. I have an '08 2500 with a Duramax if...

That's cool. The VIN is 1GCGD34J5GF...... . It has some snow on it now but should be bringing it the shop next week to start going over it. It really is a gem. The power steering pump is tied off to the side and all hooked up. If memory serves me well, the only thing missing on the truck is the...

Thanks. Am really looking forward to working with it. Good to know it is actually a D30. Lol. That's the first I had heard of that model designation. Does it represent diesel or possibly the CUCV thing?

Thanks Peats. I haven't actually decided on an engine yet. I have a 5.7 marine build I did last spring sitting on a stand at the shop as a spare for my boat. It is a .020 over roller cam with votec heads and a dual plane manifold. Although it has the marine cam, it is rated at 300hp with the...

Wow! Thank you guys. Can definitely see I have come to the right forum here. You guys have some beautiful trucks and your knowledge will save me a lot experimenting with this one. I beat the snot out of my previous square bodies in the 80's and early 90's. It was crazy the amount of of abuse I...

I like this. It looks like you had to open up the front wheel wells for the 37's? Was hoping to avoid that if I could but sounds like 37's would be better option. A mule is exactly what we are looking for. I have an '08 2500 Dmax with all the comforts for long highway runs and heavy pulling. Our...

Thanks for the warm welcome. There will likely be a few hurdles, hopefully small ones, getting this truck back on the road. It is real clean, but the engine and radiator was removed along with most of their mounting hardware. Will be changing over to gas from diesel and it appears it may be a...

Hi all! I'm located in northern B.C. Have owned '73, '75 and '85 square bodies years ago. Missing their simplicity and toughness, had me keeping an eye open for another for an off the grid adventure build. It is really tough to find one in this neck of the woods that isn't completely rotted...
