Interchangeability of sill plates on 73-79 cabs

Thanks, that's what I thought.. They look nicer, are easier to maintain.install, and should last a lot longer..

Interchangeability of sill plates on 73-79 cabs

I'm getting ready to swap out the floor rubber/insulation on my truck.. It's registered as a 73C10, but there are other indicators that it is actually a 79C30 cab.. Looking to order new sill plates as the existing ones are in pretty bad shape.. I'd like to get the plastic kind.. But in the...

CA Fuel pump nozzles and old squarebodies

I was afraid of that... Maybe I can at least come up with a collar that makes the flange around the opening smooth (without the screws sticking up) so that at least it won't drip all over the place and require as much 'pushing'

CA Fuel pump nozzles and old squarebodies

Near impossible to fuel this thing without leaking fuel onto the ground.. I can minimize it by squatting down and applying a lot of force and then manually holding the trigger.. I'm like 'tired' after fueling this way though.. lol Is there any way to get modern CA fuel pump nozzles to play...

    Expedition Type Bed Rack/Rails

I've actually been turning ideas over and over in my head and am starting to develop a plan.. A completely modular approach that will allow rails, or a ladder rack without lengthwise stiffeners/extenders over the cab, or with them, or all of that with insulated panel inserts, and also a locking...

    Seat Compatibility

The more research I do, the more I realize that I can pretty much go to the junk yard and just pick out any seats I like from just about anything.. Just measure things.. That, the seat mounts currently in the truck can be adapted to any seat as long as there isn't some sort of seat riser under...

Wicked deal for an auto trans cooler, check it out!

That just seems 'dumb' to me.... It's already there.. use it!

Wicked deal for an auto trans cooler, check it out!

Since I'll be in the market for a tranny cooler 'soon'.. Thanks for the heads up!

    TH350 to 700r4 swap

Why do I need to update the input shaft? It's an 89 tranny.. I thought they had the updated ones? I'm seeing rebuilt tail housings and shafts going for $65-110 on eBay (for both)... Rebuilt tail housings by themselves for as little as $35 Maybe it would be worth the shipping on one of yours?

    TH350 to 700r4 swap

So, it sounds like I might want to look into what it costs to have it rebuilt with all heavy duty clutches, pump and what not if I can get a good price... Just having it out of the truck already would save me several hundred dollars at least... I know a kid that went to school for auto trans...

    TH350 to 700r4 swap

Starting to sound like I won't need to change much except move the cross member, add a tranny cooler, and buy a tail housing and output shaft.. Is this correct? If so, I'm a happy camper...

    TH350 to 700r4 swap

Curious.. Will my existing 3 speed column and linkage work with a 700r4? I don't care about the shift indicator on the column.. I've already yanked that out anyways... ;) Or is the total shift linkage travel amount different for the 2 transmissions and the linkage/column will need to be...

    TH350 to 700r4 swap

To be clear, you're saying I already have the brackets/cable I need, but just have to make sure it is adjusted properly once the new tranny is in?

    TH350 to 700r4 swap

So what does this mean, then? I'm assuming that I have to get a 2wd tail housing for a 700r4, which is 6 inches in length and once bolted on, my tranny will be the right length, and so will my drive shaft... I will have to move the cross member (I'm told the holes should already be there, but I...

    TH350 to 700r4 swap

Also, can Tranny shops 'bench test' a Tranny and Torque Converter to see what it's condition is? Or does it have to be in the vehicle to do that?

    TH350 to 700r4 swap

So, in the pic below of my carb, there is the throttle cable on top, and then another cable on a bracket on the bottom.. Is this bottom cable the kick down cable or the TV cable? Or do they both do the same thing? and this cable is all I need for the 700r4?

    TH350 to 700r4 swap

Okay, there is a problem... The later model 700r4s have a 30 spline output shaft from everything I've read... So I guess that means, I'll need a different driveshaft yoke if the TH350s have 27 spline shafts (meaning my yoke is 27 spline)... Or can my existing tail housing and 27 spline output...

    TH350 to 700r4 swap

The swap is going into a 79 cab w 79 1 Ton frame... I got a tilt steering column and shift linkage off of a donor 88 suburban.. The suburban had an OD tranny, so swapping that with my existing 79 column should take care of linkage/shifting, right? They appear to be identical in as far as...

    TH350 to 700r4 swap

So, I got the numbers on the trans I'm gonna get... 9TXM007H So according to this chart, it's an 89... This is a good thing... Would like to know what the 'TX' indicates (the 'M' means it's a 700r4, evidently)... Also, since it is coming off of a 4x4, it won't have a tail housing or correct...

    TH350 to 700r4 swap

Awesome... Just went under and measured my existing tail housing.. It's about eight and a half inches long... According to your diagram, a 700r4 with 6" tail housing is 30" long.. My trans now, with the 9" tail housing (8 1/2" measured) should also be 30" long.. It has about 2" of yoke...

    Seat Compatibility

Well, that's encouraging.. Answered my question about whether some of the aftermarket universal seats can be used.. So basically, it's just a matter of finding pretty much any seats I like, either on line or at a wrecking yard, and then I'll probably be fabbing up some custom brackets no...
