    Gas to diesel

You'll want to do the math on RPMs with overdrive before you do that swap. I think you'll find it'll make the engine turn too slow, and actually hurt your MPG, or at best, not help it.

700R4 started shifting really high RPM

Thought I'd give an update on this. I never did get around to doing anything with it because, very shortly after my last post above, I found that if I snapped the throttle a few times, the throttle valve would come unstuck and would work normally the rest of the day. After doing that on a few...

Anyone else have this "Turbo Diesel" plaque?

Yep... Mid-'80s Jeep with Renault 2.1L turbodiesel. https://www.dieselworldmag.com/diesel-cars/2-1l-jeep-diesel/

    Cheap defective aftermarket parts….lol

Not trying to shoot any messengers, just trying to figure out what you're saying. Your photo and earlier description sure made it seem like the flow arrow was backward and the metal end was being treated as the inlet, but now you say it's the outlet, which of course is correct. Did I...

    Cheap defective aftermarket parts….lol

That would be the first fuel filter I've ever seen that's supposed to flow in that direction, from the inside to the outside of the element. If I saw one that was marked to flow that way, I'd assume it was marked backward, and install it the other way. If you examine the construction, I expect...

700R4 started shifting really high RPM

Yes it's stock. My understanding is, 1/2 tons got the 700R4, 3/4 tons got the TH400. I assume the reasoning was, 3/4 tons are more likely to get worked a lot harder, and the 700R4 is pretty borderline in a full-size rig even without that, unless it's been rebuilt with some stronger parts. A...

700R4 started shifting really high RPM

Thanks for the very detailed response. I still haven't been able to get back to it, but expect to tomorrow. In the meantime, from the symptoms, do you have an idea of whether the TV valve or governor is the more likely culprit? I'm planning to start with the governor since it's easier to get...

700R4 started shifting really high RPM

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking the throttle valve is less likely because the cable seems to move normally. But I don't know how it's hooked up inside the transmission; maybe there's a spring in there that will make the cable return even if the throttle valve is stuck open? The cable has...

700R4 started shifting really high RPM

Hi all, My 700R4 (behind a 6.2L diesel) just started shifting at really high RPM, pretty close to full-throttle RPM's most of the time. It acts like the TV cable is stuck at or near the full throttle position, but it's not stuck and moves normally, and once in a while it'll shift pretty close...

    Cheap defective aftermarket parts….lol

Isn't that filter marked with flow direction? The metal end is the outlet, not inlet. It detached because it's flowing backward. Dirt is supposed to get caught on the outside so you can see how dirty it is.

    6.2 diesel fuel filter

My '83 came from the factory with a spin-on primary filter/water separator, which I'm glad to have rather than the more problematic box filter. The water-in-fuel light is connected to a sensor on the fuel pickup in the tank. For many years the fuel line has been connected to the fuel drain...

    1985 K10 6.2- won’t turn over

At this point I think I'd consider pulling the oil pan so you can see a little better what's actually happening when you get that little bit of movement.

    6.2 water pump pulley

That's the one that's on my '83. At least 2 have sold on Ebay in the last couple months. Try searching for what it is, without the part number, because most folks selling a used one don't have the part number. I'm seeing 3 others with the different size pulleys in different locations, so...

    6.2 water pump pulley

A quick web search turns up pulleys for the 6.2 in at least 3 different designs, priced down to $10 + shipping. I suppose you could drill it, but the hole is what locates the pulley on the shaft, so you'd have to be pretty accurate.

Air in fuel lines after sitting over night on 6.2

I don't know about Ace, but most would have Viton or equivalent o-rings. If your local hardware store doesn't have them, an auto parts store certainly would.

You can get O-rings at any hardware store. All you need to know is the size.

    1985 K10 6.2- won’t turn over

So the crankshaft is moving a tiny bit (or the fan wouldn't be moving). Seems like it must be rings stuck to a cylinder wall. Try a 50/50 mix of ATF & acetone, half cup or so per cylinder, and let it soak a day or so. Once you can get it to turn, turn it over by hand for a couple revolutions...

    1985 K10 6.2- won’t turn over

You mean, it only did that once, or it does it every time you try it? Either way, my first thought is, one battery will start a 6.2, but it has to be a really good battery, and that one might not be as good as you think. Put 2 batteries in it that you know are good, and see what happens.

6.2l crankshaft bolt thread size? (Balancer replacement)

You can't get it started by tapping? The manual doesn't mention heating it up, so it must be possible, but it's easier if you heat it. I figured 170F is within the range of normal operation so wouldn't hurt the rubber; I've heard of going much higher but don't think I'd be comfortable doing...

6.2l crankshaft bolt thread size? (Balancer replacement)

The manual says to install it using a mallet, and tap it on far enough so the bolt can be installed. When I did mine, I heated it in the oven to around 170F (lowest oven would go) so it would slip on easier. Torque spec is 140-162 ft-lbs.

Air in fuel lines after sitting over night on 6.2

In my case, it was an old fuel hose that didn't leak fuel, but had become slightly porous to air. So when it sat a while, fuel would drain back toward the tank as air seeped in through the hose. New hose fixed it.

    Truck pulls to the right.

I had the same problem on my '83 K1500 Suburban last year. Both front calipers worked fine as far as I could tell. But when I had both removed from the rotors and fully compressed, then pressed the brake pedal, the left one moved only about half as much as the right one. Over the course of a...

    Gelled fuel or bad pump?

That makes me wonder if it was having trouble venting air that got into the fuel system through the fuel return line. That wouldn't usually make it quit quite that abruptly, but it'll sure make it quit, and make it very difficult to restart. If it happens again, take the fuel return line off...

    Gelled fuel or bad pump?

We're talking about the primary filter/water separator, right? Unless someone has rerouted your fuel system, the lift pump is after the primary filter, so it'll suck air if you open a petcock while the pump is operating.
