Short step side bed swap 1984

I would purchase the truck, take the stepside bed and then either put your fleetside bed back onto it or leave it bare. But either way I woudln't part the truck out. I would just sell it outright. I'll bet you will end up with either a 'free' stepside bed or actually have a few $$ in the bank.

1 inch lift enough for cab swap?

Here a few pics of the 77 4WD cab. The first pic shows the bolt on tunnel 'hump' sitting in place. The second pic shows the portion of the floor pan that is cut out at the factory and the different (4WD) section that is spot welded in. I intend to drill out the spot welds and transfer this...

1 inch lift enough for cab swap?

I am in the process of the same swap (79 2WD cab in place of the original 77 4WD cab). I have both cabs sitting side-by-side in the shop. So I have the advantage of comparing them. Besides the bolt on taller hump/cover, there is a section of the cab that is different as well. It appears the...

Help-Get out differential shaft lock bolt

Dude, that really sucks. There is zero chance you will drill the remainder of the bolt out. That is a hardened bolt (I believe grade 10 or 12). Not sure why you were wanting to remove the cross shaft, but I expect you're about to get a lot deeper into the diff than you planned. If I were in your...

    77 K10 LS Swap

Thanks for the info on the fuel set up. That's what I figured. Seems I will need to be making another (new) fuel tank purchase. Now that I am leaning towards fuel injection I wish I had not purchased the GM11A tank (does not have the baffles).

    77 K10 LS Swap

I've gone through your build thread and unless I missed it, I didn't see what you did for the fuel supply (tank, pump, plumbing, etc).

    12 Bolt Pinion Bearing Pre-Load

Let me start by saying I am by no means an expert. I assume others will chime in. I did just finish rebuilding the GM 12-bolt in the 77K10. I did a lot of research to educate myself. So from that I would offer the following. First, the pinion nut is supposed to be a lock nut. And it is not...

Drive shafts too short after 4inch TC lift

Where did you get the rebuild kit from? Or did you have it done? I was also wondering if they make longer yokes (diff end of the shaft) that could be assembled into the shaft, thus effectively lengthening the drive shaft without needing to retube.

Drive shafts too short after 4inch TC lift

Got the rear springs rotated 180 degrees. Sure enough. Drive shaft fits now. Plus I was able to remove the drop brackets I fabricated for the parking brake cables. Now they fit correctly as well. It does still look like I will need a 1 inch spacer for the front drive shaft.

Drive shafts too short after 4inch TC lift

OK, I believe I've figured out the issue with the rear drive shaft. And yes, it was as usual a simple/stupid mistake on my part. Seems the springs are not symmetrical about the u-bolt rivet. There is a proper orientation for front of spring vs rear of spring. So it would appear that I mistakenly...

Drive shafts too short after 4inch TC lift

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. But then I was also considering the fact that at the moment it isn't even at full droop/extension. I have the jack stands under the axles (not the frame). So the weight of the frame, transmission & transfer case are loading the springs. They are new springs...

Drive shafts too short after 4inch TC lift

Got around to installing the rebuilt front & rear drive shafts in to the 77 K10 (see pics on rebuild thread). The truck has a 4 inch Tuff Country lift. Now both front and rear drive shafts are too short. I was able to get the rear shaft installed by tilting the rear of transfer case down a bit...

4 inch lift is coming along

Alternatively, drop your sway bar down at the pivot points. I installed the Ruff Country 4 inch lift as well. I went with the Rough Country drop brackets.

    Replacing fenders

Not trying to hijack your thread, but I am facing a very similar issue/question. Time to start repairing the cab on the 77. Looked at Brothers, NPD, Tabco & AMD. Below is the summary for the parts required (pretty typical list of parts). Interesting that NPD offers free shipping on an order of...

    Trans Cross Member Orientation

Does anyone know the orientation of the transmission cross member on a 77 K10 TH350/NP203? I took hundreds of pictures. Wouldn't you know it I did not take one of the cross member before taking it out. The one in the pic below is not mine, but is basically the same (a few years earlier - ebay...

1974 C10 brake proportioning valve wiring *Pictures requested*

The wire that connects to the prop valve is a short jumper that runs over to a bracket mounted on the frame near the ps pump. In the second pic you can see the jumper connector (removed from prop valve) and the bracket.

    Bench seat foam cushion

Seat foam trimming isn't that difficult. I have found the easiest way to trim it is with an electric meat carver, like you use on the Thansksgiving turkey. Slices the foam like butter. And with the long blade trimming or contouring the foam is quite easy. Years ago I purchased a really cheap one...

    Rusted A pillar fix

Not sure of TX, but some states will not consider a drilled/re-riveted VIN tag to be legit. To stay legit (in the event you choose to replace the entire cab) you need to cut the metal around the VIN tag and graft it into the new cab without molesting the rivets.

    Tank vent routing stepside

Where does the fuel tank vent route on a stepside? On my 77 K10 the vent was plugged by the PO so I have no idea where it is supposed to go. I assume somewhere up high within the fenders. Or was there a charcoal vacuum canister in the engine bay by 77? Again, the PO had removed all of the...

NP203 Differences Early vs Late Design

OK, now I am starting to wonder about the info I received indicating the differences in the 2 tailhousing was due to early vs late design. I was able to locate the exact speedo driven gear online. It even has the same part number stamped on it. And according to the site selling the part this is...

NP203 Differences Early vs Late Design

Looking for an NP203 expert. I got the differential from Offroad Design for converting the 77 K10 back to full time 4WD. Interestingly they sent me the entire tail housing and extension. Putting the original side-by-side with the unit they sent me shows a few differences (original on left, new...

Any still sell OEM Rubber Cab/Body Mounts?

Doesnt LMC Truck and most of the other aftermarket companies (Brothers, NPD, Eckelers, Classic, etc) all sell OE style rubber cab and rad support mounts? Having said that, not sure which ones might be of decent quality. I will comment that my orders from LMC have been hit or miss. The parking...
