    Prothane Body Mounts - Height?

Quick update. First, yes the kit has all 4 new cab mounts plus the 2 rad support mounts. So all 6 are new. Next, I did some research and found the same kit from Energy Suspension. This kit - The helpful thing is the Energy Sus kit's instructions (which are available online) give the height...

    Prothane Body Mounts - Height?

I purchased a set of Prothane urethane mounts for the 1977 K10. I am finding that the mounts tilt the cab forward (rear end higher than front) a few degrees. I am in the process of test fitting new fenders and rad support before heading to paint. Was having an issue getting the fender gaps to...

    Sway Bar End Link Bushings

I had the exact same issue. If I recall the brand I purchased was even OE GM (Delco). I fought with those things for hours. Tried everything you can imagine (sleeves, tapered sections of tubing, hydraulic press, etc, etc...). All I accomplished was wasting hours of my time and ended up...

    help to find parts

I have posted this before. I am will also be needing these parts when I get to that stage of my restoration. I haven't checked or confirmed these are the same or can be modified to work, but I will be looking into them once I get closer - https://www.opgi.com/chevelle/C240942/...

    EFI Fuel Pump Options

Holley just introduced this system for the 73 - 87 trucks. There are others who make similar retrofit systems, but this one is less money and can be used on the pre-87 tanks without baffles. I already purchased a model year correct (ie: non-baffled) tank for my 1977. I was planning to run a...

Transfer case lever slips out of selection

I am sure others with more experience with the transfer cases will respond. But I can add this. The NP203 on my truck has a detent that holds the shifter in position. It is a ball bearing, held in position by a spring. Below is an exploded view of an NP205, but the basics are the same. It is...

    Shifter bushings...Where to get?

I searched for the same thing, but also needed the bracket. I haven't pulled the trigger on these yet, but am planning to do so. They are not for our trucks, per se, but I am thinking they will work... https://www.opgi.com/product.asp?item=S240695...

    Short brake hose?

Not sure why the factory length hose would be too short, but an option is to install an extended hose. They are available for lift kits. I installed the one from Rough Country.

New Stepside Bed - Anyone assembled one from new parts?

I've gotten to the point in the K10's resto that it is time to think about the stepside bed. There's really not much to save from the original because of the rust and rotted (wood) floor. I do have 2 fenders that came with the truck. They are OEM and only have surface rust. So I will blast those...

    Rear brake line help

Ditto the comments above. Just cut the line. Remove what's left of the fitting together with the cylinder. I fully expect you will snap off the cylinder bolts by the look of them. Not much of a loss. Cylinders are really cheap.

    Steering arm cone washer removal

Just google Dana44 knuckle stud kit. Here are a few that pop up - https://www.desertrat.com/i-23340303-dana-44-steering-knuckle-stud-kit-3.html http://www.chassisunlimited.com/product/axle-components/steering-knuckles.html?dir=asc&mode=list&order=price...

    Steering arm cone washer removal

For what it's worth I would not recommend hammering on the top of the studs. Yes, they are replaceable (they thread in). But hammering on the top of the studs isn't applying force where you want it. All you're doing is applying force downward thru the studs into the knuckle - which isn't going...

    77 cab

What seems odd to me is the absence of the HVAC blower hole in the firewall. It appears they completely deleted the HVAC system with this snorkel conversion? That said, if you have another cab that you can cut this entire section of the firewall I wouldn't be afraid of tackling the job. This...

Decent Paint That Won't Break the Bank

I've painted with Summit's paint. It's really not that bad. I was going to choose it again this past year when I was painting a dump truck (yes, dump truck). But they no longer ship to MI because of some interpretation of the shipping laws for my state. Really odd. I even called them and...

    77 cab

Really depends on the overall condition and extent of the rust damage and other mods that you need to repair. I have a build thread posted with pics where I am restoring a cab of similar vintage. In my case I had 2 cabs to choose from, the original 77 4WD and a separate 79 2WD. In my case I...

    Vin swap/cab swap

So here's an interesting question on this subject. I am facing the same situation (switching cabs). In my case I am swapping the original 1977 4WD cab for a 1979 2WD cab. The VIN tags are not in the same location. On the 77 its on the driver's B-pillar. On the 79 its in the more (now)...

    Replacement outer rocker fitment

Yes, the cab was well braced based on the way I fabricated the attachment points for the rotisserie. There is no way the pillars moved during the rocker removal/replacement. And just for added measure, I was continually comparing measurements from the other cab to this one. They match within...

    Replacement outer rocker fitment

Here are a few pics. It's not ending up as poorly as I was originally expecting. I did give some thought to the fitment of the outer rocker. But really there is little leeway with inboard/outboard fitment because the stamping lines right up with the A & B-pillars. With respect to the lower...

    Replacement outer rocker fitment

I have got both rockers welded into place on the 77 resto project. I also replaced the rocker inners, which are actually just part of the original floor stamping. Also replaced the cab supports, floor supports, inner kick panels & floor sections. I took the cab off the rotisserie so I could temp...

Tech: How to Identify Original, GM Replacement, and Aftermarket Body Panels (Fenders, Hoods, Doors)

Small detail, but for those interested in the technical details. The original GM nuts are not weld nuts. They are self-pierce nuts. They come on a wire roll and are installed by a press machine that simultaneously stamps/cuts the hole and presses the nut into place. The aftermarket uses weld...

    Lug nut thread engagement

OK, this leads to a logical question. Where does one find a longer wheel stud for these trucks?
