idle around a corner kills motor

depends on which carb you get, but an adaptor would do the trick.

    Tbi to carb.

Maybe a half a turn to see what happens. its a torx 20. before that I would go ahead and do a minimum idle setting to start off with. Too lazy to write it, so I will find one of the other 50 posts where I splained it, and past it here. You have a tach? Snagged this one from a buddy on the EFI...

idle around a corner kills motor

Edelbrock is the problem...thats one of the things they are notorious for. Its a design flaw. Qjet or Holley, and be done. Truck avenger is the way to go for seriouse wheeling, purpose built.

idle around a corner kills motor

You have an edelbrock carb, right?

    Tbi to carb.

Hmmm...I had this problem with my Comp cam, which was problem free in my Tuned Port setup. I ended up sick of the programming of chips, so I just set the minimum idle setting to 50 more rpm than recommended.

Apply vac to that egr valve while running before changing it. there is a small valve inside some of those EGr valves that closes the vac chamber when there is exhaust pressure. did you put a stock replacement cam back in? Thes systems dont like cam changes too much.

That EGR might be the type that opens based on exhaust pressure. When you start the truck, and it warms up, watch the valve while you blip the throttle...should jump open real quick... you can also apply vac with mityvac to see if it opens too, but the truck has to be running. 15 psi gauge...

    87 to 94 5.7L?

No, It will work. All your 87 stuff is the same, except the 94 throttle body didnt have a tv cable provision for a 700r4. 93 1/2 to 95 just used a newer ECM, and had a solenoid for the evap system.

I know what you mean about the weather...My Cousin's house has about 5 inches of standing water inside. Your looking at a whole new set of issues if you throw that Edelbrock carb on. The fuel pressure gauge needs to read EFI pressures. TBI is 9-13 psi. You can also hook it directly to the...

    thinkin bout a motor swap..

an engine would be better than a motor, unless you have access to a wrecked Tesla.

Yup, while its running, at operating temp. Yes, I have seen, and dealt with these types of things. Some things will drive you nuts looking for the cause. Two that I always keep in mind are the hose between the fuel pump, and sender(in tank) that will deteriorate, and caus low/ no fuel pressure...

    Tbi to carb.

I wrote a lengthy reply earlier, but I guess I didnt hit submit. Anyways, its possible that you have an intake leak under the manifold. Plug the breather and pcv lines, and introduce propane into the crank case via the dipstick tube(After the engine is warmed up, of course) and see if it...

    Tbi to carb.

Honestly, going to carb will be more headach/exspense. Have you taken the IDle air motor off and cleaned it? They get gummed up now and then, due to PCV. Also, wiggle the throttle shaft to check for excessive play. Is there still a metal plug where the throttle(idle) stop screw is? If not...

    350 5.7 won't idle/runs bad

Yup, sounds like an Edelbrock carb to me. Q Jet or Holley is best.

    Mufflers - need input/advice

Get 2 2.25" pipes, about 20" long, weld a cap on one end, and tee them(weld) into the tailpipes after the mufflers somewhere....this should squish a lot of that 2k drone.

    Carb Bog

Idle in D was 500-550 from the factory(With timing set at 4*B tDC.)close the blades a little, and re adjust the idle mix screws to see if it gains a few Hg. I like to open both screws evenly, just a tad past the smoothest point, then run it back in a 1/4 turn. I wouldnt think the bog is...

    Carb Bog

    John, I forgot....do you have a 700r4, or TH350?
  19. Jims86

    Carb Bog

That 600 will be perfect for a 305, considering all the Qjets were a minimum of 750.

    Carb Bog

Ensure the float is set correctly. Best way to fix problems with Eddy carbs, is to replace them with Holley, Demon, Or Quadrajet.

Need to buy a motor: HELP

In Ca you must use an ENGINE certified for a 1/2 or lighter vehicle. A Diesel can be used, if you have documentation that the donor engine was from a vehicle 1/2 or lower, like a 6.2 or 6.5, or, when people start wrecking them, the new 3.0 from a RAM, but they just hit dealerships. I suggest...

    Tbi to carb.

Yup, I agree with Marty. I think you have fuel pressure dropping off, and even going to carb, wont fix the problem. Checking the parts doesnt cost anything...hell, you may pop the dist cap, and find some moisture, or carbon tracing.

    Tbi to carb.

Fuel pressure regulator reduce the pressure to about 7 psi., Proper throttle brackets, and a geometry kit for the TV cable, if using other than a Q jet. TCI trans lockup kit for 700 R4.

    Tbi engine backfire

Well, he does have headers, which makes it easy to figure out what cylinder is misfiring using a spray bottle of water....But he got a lean code, which is engine wide.
