    Switches

1983 K20, upper switch is lights, lower unknown, the bezel is for windshield wiper on dash eventhough they are working at the column. The lower switch has three wires, two go through the firewall, one goes to the red illuminated near the switch.

    Switches

Could this switch be a trans lock when this truck was an automatic rather than a manual as it is today? I’ve noticed a few threads with trans lock switch which looks similar.

Fuel pump pushrod won’t slide into block

I have a 880 block in my k20, didn’t have the tunnel machined through the casting for mechanical fuel pump. I installed a Carter electric pump which failed with less than a 25 miles on it over a couple of years. The Carter pump was unserviceable so I threw away $125. I believe it failed because...

    Extra wire connections

Nice, my thread has returned, lol. I probably won’t have time to look at it this week but thank you for the response.

What have you done to your square lately??

Last week, I put new bulbs in the gauge cluster, 1000 wet sanded and buffed the cover lens, and somewhat got the blinkers working, did this after going to the car wash to clean the drive train.

    Switches

It pulls out about 1/4”, three wires are connected to the back terminals, one goes to the red indicator, the other two go into the engine cavity. The two going through the firewall and into the engine cavity are heavily black taped and feed into the covered wire loom so not easily traced without...

    Switches

Since the knowledge is vast here and it’s been saving me time, thank you all, please inform me what the purpose of the switch under the headlight switch? Also, the gauge bezel doesn’t quite match up with the headlight switch and opening, a PO did a dash hack so not sure if the headlight switch...

    Extra wire connections

If I’m reading the wiring diagram correctly, it looks like those two are for water in fuel and glow plugs.

Or, it could be similar to pumpkin pie with some whipping cream on top.

    ok, now THAT was scary!

I’m thinking my highway experience will be similar with my 83 K20, I’m really not too eager for the white knuckle ride. Thinking I’ll try it early Saturday morning when traffic very light.

    Extra wire connections

The only two I noticed were the low coolant and seat belt lights, The seat belt light didn’t want to come out so I couldn’t look inside since I couldn’t get it completely removed. I guess I can remove the fuel and speedo gauges to look behind them. The speedo cable was giving me fits when I...

    Extra wire connections

1983 K20, sorry forgot to include. I didn’t notice any empty holes in the cluster where these would fit. I’m not so sure the cluster is original.

    Extra wire connections

I pulled the cluster to fix the dash lights and turn signals. I found two loose connectors (purple/purple&black)(orange/black) which I would like to know their purpose. The low coolant light always stays on so I unplugged it since I’m not using that electronic circuit on my carbureted 350 and I...

    VIN Engine Identification

Nope, no inspection required. If you do the paperwork from home, you have to mail your title to them which is a little risky. SD mails you a renewal by mail annually.

    VIN Engine Identification

I recently learned South Dakota is an open registration state which means you don’t have to reside there to title and register your vehicle. Perhaps this could be a solution?

    VIN Engine Identification

So, I finally took it on the maiden voyage to the car wash. It’s definitely a mishmash of parts and it appears someone hung a few diesel parts to avoid emissions testing. I did learn that it’s definitely not ready for a road trip anytime soon. Speedo, turn signals and most of the dash lights...

What do you think about black on the bottom, orange in the middle with a white top above the cab molding? Between orange and black, the classic chrome molding strip?

Yea, I wish a bunch of pics were available so I can fully grasp what it could look like. I found a few on the internet but I don’t think it was a popular color combination.

Best Spent $$ for Square Restoration

Good to know, thank you. I went to the local junkyard this afternoon to look around, saw prolly half dozen squares, everyone was hammered, pretty much nothing left to pick over. I need an AC cover box which I saw two good ones but my back to sore to climb into the engine cavity to remove. Maybe...

Do I dare try to install 81-87 seat covers on it?

    Mystery bench seat

I’m ready to pull the trigger on a seat cover for my 82 K20 but I’m fairly certain the seat isn’t original. Please help me identify this seat? There is a build sheet in the springs but I don’t dare try to remove it or it will disintegrate. From what I can read it looks like 1968 truck with a...

    Diesel Engine Bay Help

Thank you, it was originally green, with green vinyl top. As you can see from pic, no vinyl was remaining when I got the car. I don’t think there is a trace of green paint remaining either.

Best Spent $$ for Square Restoration

So, I’m planning to start my square restore soon and I’m considering the interior first, then exterior. With so many vendor choices available, it would be valuable to know what and where I can get the most bang for my hard earned bucks $$. Would you please kindly identify vendor, part number and...

    Diesel Engine Bay Help

Bought the Malibu for $800 mostly because I wanted to reconnect with my Dad who passed about 5 years earlier. We use to work on cars together and I have all his tools. He was an auto bodyman and painter so I figured I would give it a try. The only parts original to the chevelle resto are the...
