HotRod you are correct, ( I double checked at "Tom's Differentials" ).

    Crate engine swap advise please?

Crate engines for street duty always have a warranty. The GM ones do - if they are installed into their intended year range and type of vehicle. That info is in the warranty. That said , I'd buy the GM vortec crate or the Blueprint 383 - but that's just me.

    Crate engine swap advise please?

I think this is by far and away the best GM crate deal ! (And I'd really be tempted to change the cam one this one too. Only 191* intake duration )

rod knock when warm, good oil pressure. just replace bearings?

Better pull the pan asap and not do anymore starts at all , the problem will just get worse. May have newspaper under the bearing already !? If it's a rod brng the big-end of the rod will be out of round and may not be the only one in sad shape.

    427 tall deck motor swap

Only that the pistons have a taller height from the wrist pin to the crown - and that allows 4 rings to be used instead of the normal 3 rings.

    427 tall deck motor swap

For the rpm range your cam is and staying at 427 ci - I'd use the existing peanut port heads and don't worry about it. Same for the larger valves too, but get a valve job if the heads are off. $.02

    big block heads question

It really depends on your goals. Will this be a work truck , drags only, or something in between ? How big of an engine will these be on ? Auto trans, heavy truck ?

    couple trucks and other stuff

TowJoe - pm sent HotRod , Towbar - no way, tow dolly ok - but a 4wd with 15X10's and 12.50 tires doesn't fit. Of course I found out the hard way !

    couple trucks and other stuff

You're close enough to make me think I could get there on a weekend - but time for "projects" never come up. My '90 V3500 3+3 , '94 K1500 , and '85 C20 - just sit. I need a bed and several other items , maybe two business owners can meet some sunday before the year ends !!??

    my dirt cheap 454 build

All of the bigblocks have a poor combustion chamber design except the vortec design. 35 years ago you could find higher octane fuel than you can now , and I battled spark-knock constantly with a factory rated 10.25 or 10.5 compression 396 which was in a lighter vehicle , had a larger solid cam...

    Lackluster Power

If you do tear into it check your cam timing with a degree wheel , the quality of timing chain sets is not what it used to be.

    my dirt cheap 454 build

Bet a 489/496 is only A $100 more !? You can buy a Scat stroker crank cheap.

final prep for vortec head swap

Don't use the single plane intake , it's way too wrong for your setup. I bought my performer vortec for $60 + shipping off of Ebay, and that's what you need also ! Unless you have a degree wheel to set your cam timing with you'd be best to leave the cam be. If you want more mid-range & top-end...

whats a good header to buy for my stock 85 K20

These are on my '94 , they fit great and don't leak on either end ! I've had good Doug Thorley headers in the past, Hooker always seem to work for everyone and they used to be the best BITD, I've had alot of good cheap headers too !

Target master 350 reseal or run

I had a bud "BITD" that pulled a Pontiac 428ci 370 hp 10.75 compression engine outa the 'yard and plopped it into his excellent '69 'bird. Mid-winter Indiana - no garage. Couldn't get him to re-gasket it and install a new timing chain set - he was in a hurry. Fired it up and the head gaskets...

Target master 350 reseal or run

"Sitting 8 years" ! Gaskets dry-out and/or shrink , nylon gets brittle, oil runs off cyl walls easily , steel shim gaskets rust, - it's just a common sense approach to insure a long/or longer life instead. Very affordable to do. SHOULDN'T NEED MUCH, if anything !! Besides - I'd use it as a...

Target master 350 reseal or run

I'd re-seal it also, and use shim head gaskets. Those engines are @ 7.9-1 compression and can use the bump in compression. Get rid of the nylon oil pump shaft collar and any nylon timing gear too (has to be brittle by now !). The cam has 18x* intake duration and is done around 3,000 to 3,500 ...

Thanks ! The full float axle would get the duals. What is the era of Caddy caliper to buy ? 19xx to 19xx ? ( I can find that with a search I'm sure , thanks for reminding us of it tho' ) The semi ain't so bad with a 9.5 ring gear and it's other shaft 'n bearing specs,( Dana 60 is only a 9.75...

    srw to drw

Please excuse this thread hi-jack. I will be doing this to a C20 , did you have interference from the spring to inside tire ? Semi to full floater conversion ( 3/4 ton axle ), and changeover to dually. I also need to convert from the small 3/4 ton brakes to dually large drums or disc brakes...

    Slicks with 10 bolt

The stock carrier is a very weak link. About as weak as a 1/2 ton's U-joint !! If I were you I'd mark a straight line down the driveshaft to monitor any twist in it. With 400 hp @ the fw plus a nitrous hit and a stall speed - you'll stress the stock components to breakage in the whole...
