1987 GMC 3500 Cab and Chassis (no bed) $950 Hebron, IN 46341

Please do let me know. I haul and install alot of garage doors and need a minimum of a 9' bed and a cab 'n chassis wheelbase is perfect for a min. wheelbase truck. It takes alot of load capacity and brakes too. Thanks !

1987 GMC 3500 Cab and Chassis (no bed) $950 Hebron, IN 46341

I'd have really liked to have checked into this truck further - it would much better suit my needs than my '85 C20 with an 8' flatbed. But my trade involving the C20 fell-thru with me buying the '79 K30 of the trade outright. This is a very attractive deal on your C30, but I have to swap out...

    Can I run just headers?

This is what I did to be able to drive my '94, no room for duals easily and I was taking too long to get them (duals) built. So just glasspacks for now.

    5.7, 5.9 or 6.2

In agree with going above the tiny and much maligned 5.7 Olds , not enough potential without spending a small fortune. But that Olds block is a stronger block than a BBC block, and they're great for building a large ci Olds smallblock from 425 ci to 440 ci ! A Olds diesel "D" block has some...

http://tbichips.com/?page_id=73 Go here to learn more about TBI in trucks, it is the best website for info I've seen concerning TBI.

I recommend a different block for boost.

    64-67 327 210hp engine in 84 chevy c10 swb (project build)

They also don't outrun a 350. That block should be worth money in a Nova , it's rare because of the recessed oil filter mount and unique to Novas only !! I'd sell it on StevesNovasite.com for good cash and use the extra to fund the new build, and I'd go to a newer TBI or Vortec roller block...

1986 K30 Big Dooley in need of bigger tires.

They sure do, but the '90 3+3 V3500 I just sold did fine in 4wd. It's the 2wd that has such a problem, the '90 had plenty of weight in it and got us out of some tight spots. I did have a '85 cab chassis box truck that sucked in snow , but a Detroit locker install cured it. (and four...

1986 K30 Big Dooley in need of bigger tires.

They don't get traction without a posi at all . Duallies are not great on a slick surface in stock form. I had a '85 C30 cab & chassis with a 14' box - even loaded there was no traction ( 2+ ton in box). A Detroit Locker made all the difference. Whipped my '83 K30 5/4 off the light bad in the...

    454 build

Depends on the cam - but most likely you need to replace the valve springs also. I'd add headers if you haven't already, and recurve the distributor too. If you haven't done any of this it will be a big boost if you do so !

    Speed Pro Camshafts

They are old school - but have been good quality in the past. They ( Speed Pro / Federal Mogul ) make quality parts. The cam grinds are on-par with ; Edelbrock , Elgin , or Summit Racing , but a little more cash can buy much better designed grinds if you're truly after performance.

    NV3500/NP208 combo

I'd think a one ton would have been equipped an NV4500 trans and either a 205 or 241 transfer case ? Are you sure it's a 3500 and a 208 ? (those are half ton )

tbi to carb swap trouble !!

You need a much smaller and a better brand of cam in my opinion. Besides the fact that the TBI heads will severely choke the engine at 4,000 and higher.

    my dirt cheap 454 build

Your headers are too tiny for a large engine at high RPM, and your compression is too low for a big cam. Gearing doesn't match anything but a torquey engine. ?? An 8.4 compression engine wouldn't warrant an 3" exhaust even with a hit of nitrous. The 1.75" headers would be the bottleneck !

    my dirt cheap 454 build

Sounds ok. But 2 1/2" pipe is plenty.

    .030" quench: too tight?

A bigger bore piston will have more rock in it's bore. .030 is way too tight !

    84 k10 custom exhaust

3" duals are GIANT for even a hi-perf smallblock. Exhaust can also be sized smaller by the time you get to the tailpipes without effecting HP. 2&1/4" from the headers back are plenty for a stock smallblock. A BIG bigblock with nitrous can use 3&1/2" dual exhaust. Do tell what your truck...

    New Exhaust ?

Ditto... with mandrel bends and a crossover. I'm not a good welder - so I build it and have someone else do the welding. Flowmaster use to sell good mandrel-bent and aluminized tailpipes in 2&1/2" ( maybe 2&1/4" also).

    More HP or lower gears?

Sorry, let me clarify. For the 8.5"/8.6" corporate 10 bolt. If your original carrier is for a 2.41 or 2.56 gear ratio - then you'll need a new carrier for a different ratio than those two gears. If your original carrier is for a gear ratio of 2.73 or numerically higher ratio, ( 3.08, 3.23...
