‘83 K5/4” lift/4WD: Still in need of header fitment recommendations for new crate SBC SP350 w/“D” port heads/angled plugs.

On past builds I’ve done Chevelle & Monte Carlo headers worked. These folks make great headers, you might call them to see what they recommend. https://www.schoenfeldheaders.com/

    Rear Leaf Load Rating Question

My original ‘78 K20 has 52” springs… As for removing rust, the spring pack can be disassembled. Depending on how bad it is, either a hand held grinder/sander or sandblasting.

Is it 4x4 or AWD? Whats the wheel base? Possibly a body swap project?

    76 K10 rear main seal

A “Sneaky Pete” tool will be required to get that job done easier… The top half of that seal can be a real pain some times. Just sayin..

    74 k10 going 55 mph is at 3,500 rpm

I remember some aftermarket tachs having a small 4-6-8 switch for the number of cylinders on the engine….

    1985 4x4 Fuel System

Over the years Chevy had many different versions of fuel systems. There are several different styles of pumps and sending units available also. Pumps can have one or two ports. Sending units can have one, two, or three ports. Only the fuel supply and return lines route through the tank...

    1985 4x4 Fuel System

The 3/8” port is fuel supply to carb, the 1/4” port is fuel return from mechanical fuel pump, the 5/16” port is tank vent, it originally went to charcoal canister.

    SPID Placement in glove box

My ’78 has it in the glove box. It could be easily redone with an adhesive backed laminate.

Fixing vapor lock now that I barely made it home, experience with 3 port filters?

I believe there’s a little confusion here… The sending unit assembly at the tank can have one, two, or three ports, depending on the year of vehicle, or what someone has installed in the past. These ports are 3/8” for fuel supply, 5/16” for fuel vapor recovery, 1/4” port for fuel return from...

    454 w/ NV4500

I have no idea about the towing capacity with that engine/tranny combo, but as posted above the “pin weight” of the 5er will be the big hurdle. Factory weights on trailers are as they are right off of the assembly, no propane, batteries etc.. then also plan on about 1-2K lbs worth of your stuff...

What have you done to your square lately??

Sweet! I‘ve had several machines over the years, they’re always a crowd pleaser for family functions. Currently only have one, but always on the look out.

Value of a 400/402 big block?

Several years ago I built a sweet ‘69 Camaro. Bought a 396 with a ‘68 date code & suffix from a passenger car. Bored 30 over, hydraulic Comp cam, 750 double pumper Holley with a Muncie 4 speed and 12 bolt rear end. That big block would annialate the tires. I loved that car and it turned heads.

    Towing Capacities HD

As posted above it depends on the state, and are you a commercial business? Stop at a CAT scale location, they’re at a lot of truck stops. You can’t just guess, get an accurate assessment of weight on each axle.

    CNC machined emblems

Very cool! With CAD & CNC the possibilities are endless to what can be produced. If it can be profitable in the long run is always the big question in any type of manufacturing scenario. I hope it works out.

    Venture a guess…

I don’t see the year of your truck, but since the horn switch was relocated to the dash could it be a high beam switch? If your truck has the high beams on the column and the column wiring is damaged? Just a guess

Nice! I love the GM six cylinder engine, it was in my very first car way back when I was a youngster.

Should this new guy buy this '85?

it all depends on the price… it’s certainly a desirable piece to me.

    Disappearing coolant

Was the engine hot when the compression test was done? I would also suspect head gasket or crack.

    Engine identification

It’s a 350 block, 160hp, 185hp, etc… really not any difference. 2 barrel vs 4 barrel etc.. Check the head casting numbers also. From here you’ll have to disassemble it to see what’s inside.

    Engine identification

You will have to use all the info you have available, casting number, casting date and the stamped pad. Google, several sites will have a lot of info. V is Flint Michigan, the next four numbers are most likely the month & day. I don’t know about JC…. Sometimes the vehicles VIN would be there...

    Engine identification

The numbers/letters you’re looking for are stamped on the block, not cast in. This pic shows where it was originally, front passenger side of the block… but if the motor has been rebuilt it was probably machined off when the block was surfaced.
