What have you done to your square lately??

Realized that I never posted a pic with my tuned dash. Anyone who says you need LEDs to be able to read the gauges I'm calling bullshit...LOL.

    Header heat

I know there have been discussions in the past regarding what to do about the effects of the heat produced by headers. I've read the debates about wrapping the headers, shielding plug wires and starters, melting plug wires and vapor locking all because of the under hood heat. I've been told by...

Stroker Kits - Rotating Assemblies - Better Brands?

Got an Eagle setup for my boat engine. All forged. H-beam rods and Mahle pistons. My machinist was able to internally balance it without weighting the crank. 9.7-1 compression. Got 300 hrs on it and runs strong. No issues at all. Have good buddy who owns a garage and builds high end drag...

School me on intake manifolds and headers

I wouldn't say the results are that close. The difference between the manifolds and long tube headers was something like 15HP!!! On a 400+ HP engine that's still pretty significant. Figure that a set of cheap headers runs $200 on the high side for a 15HP increase. I'll take those numbers all...

    Barn door to tailgate conversion

My brand new 88 I ordered with a tailgate. I couldn't imagine having the barn doors. The rear view while driving was perfect. The ability to have the window down while driving for more airflow was amazing until the exhaust fumes almost made you pass out. Then the power window had issues as it...

School me on intake manifolds and headers

+1 I gotta believe the factory CIA is about as good as you can get. Purely IMHO.

School me on intake manifolds and headers

Then I agree that a new open element filter will help. I'm pretty much the same as you. Totally stock except headers and duals, a carb rebuild and some tuning of the carb and timing. Only difference is my air cleaner is the tall 5.5" one with the cold air intake which I kept and just put in a...

School me on intake manifolds and headers

The headers and duals are an awesome first start. That 2101 Edlebrock is also a good intake. You'll definitely get better throttle response. The air filter I don't think is worth it. If you have the cold air tube from the factory air horn to the radiator support that brings in outside air, that...

84 GMC 1500, Air Conditioning questions.

Yes, all the way over by the ash tray.

84 GMC 1500, Air Conditioning questions.

Crap...I just reread this. I told you about the passenger side vent duct. The driver side duct is exactly as Craig85 pointed out. You can get to it easily from under the dash on the driver side but you have to first remove the plastic and metal covers that are just underneath the steering wheel...

84 GMC 1500, Air Conditioning questions.

For your vent issue check that the duct hose behind the glove box is connected. My 84 model has a habit of slipping off I will look at that shortly. Does the glove box need to come all the way out, in order to check the duct hose? Sorry guys. I'm still trying to figure out how to make multi...

    WONT START

Very possible if it can't vent. The pressurized tank could potentially push raw fuel down the vent tube right to the canister.

    WONT START

That gas cap is junk. You're missing the whole top half of it. You say its venting when you take off the cap. That pretty much sums up the problem. Start with a new cap that properly vents and go from there.

Weird looking instrument panel light bulb holder.

It goes into one of the bulbs on your dash. I keep thinking one behind the Speedo but could be wrong. That' little tube thingy is supposed to have a fiber optic cable on it that goes over to illuminate the ash tray. The cable was definitely a first gen type rendering of we know of today's fiber...

    Looking to buy... But it's a 72

Is this a private owner or some sort of consignment dealer? That could make a difference to me. By the looks of the garage and the other classics in the background some pretty nice iron there. Somebody has put some time, effort and money into them. I think it may be a fair price depending on...

It looks awesome!!! How about some shots outside in the sun? Not looking to degrade your work. Just wanting to see the real potential to be had.

What is this wire on my blower motor?

I thought it was a motor startup cap and if so this makes sense then.

    Transposing Relay Wiring

According to DIN standards 85 is ground and 86 is 12V. Should be easy to ohm out from the relay to the connector to determine which is which on the connector.

Stalls when pressing gas too fast

Give Cliff Ruggles a call. cliffshighperformance.com Make sure you have the number from the carb. He'll get you squared away. Wouldn't hurt to buy abd read his book either. You'll be amazed what you'll learn.

What have you done to your square lately??

Tuned up my dash a little. Pulled it apart and replaced the bad voltmeter. Painted gauge needles fluorescent orange. Disassembled and painted the back box bright white. Replaced bulbs with Sylvania ultravision bulbs and polished the clear gauge cover with Mequires plastic polish. Power...

    General Parts Question

I get most stuff on the line. I get what I really want as long as I plan ahead and prices are usually much folder then anything locally. On the instances when I need something now or I forgot about ordering I go to a little two man speed shop who really know what they're talking about. They're...

    Best r4 compressor brand?

I keep thinking it was Cordone but could be confusing that with the power steering pump I just replaced. . O Reilly only had one manufacturer option on a new V belt compressor. For the V belt type R4 you have to make sure the power connector is in the right spot. They're either at 9 o'clock or...

    Best r4 compressor brand?

Spent a lot of time on this fire drill. My original AC was not working when I got the truck. Got it converted to 134 and flushed, cleaned and filled with original R4 compressor. Worked great for three months until the compressor seized. Read about all the horror stories of R4's working anywhere...

    Holley Issues Continue......

Well thats just bullshit. Having the vacuum advance on manifold vacuum does have it advanced as far as it goes. Thats true. However when you stab the throttle your vacuum drops to zero which essentially disables the vacuum advance. The mechanical advance does the timing advance then until you...

    Correct power steering pump

+1 My V-belt setup is exactly as described here but I have a 350. Not sure if the 454 would be setup the same way or not.
