    Power Brakes

I'm so sorry guys. I couldn't bring myself to even open up a thread labeled "Power Breaks" that was posted in the "Brakes" subforum of the "Suspension, Steering and Brakes" forum. I just knew it was gonna be a trainwreck before it even started. When I saw the title was changed to the proper...

Starts but quickly dies, any low tech tips for diagnosis?

+1 Last time I changed a mechanical pump on a SBC took a total of maybe 30 min. start to finish. Easy as pie.

Can Anyone Tell Me What Color This Is??

I know this is an old thread but the first time I'm seeing it. The OP's truck pic is a twin to one that my wife's uncle had. Only difference is his was a '76 GMC. First SB I ever drove and fell in love with it. Had to show the pic to my wife. Thanks for the memories.

    Oil Pressure Gauge problems

Pretty sure they're senders. I got the first one that lasted a year from a local speed shop. The second one I got from Napa and they first gave me a switch. The sender and switch look nothing alike. It's pretty hard to mistake the two. Took that back and they gave me a sender. Third one was from...

    Oil Pressure Gauge problems

Have a weird one I need some assistance with. 86 Subrban w/factory 350. When I picked up my Suburban a couple years ago it had a massive oil leak which turned out to be the oil pressure sender. Replacing it fixed my leak and the gauge worked perfectly for about a year. Then started to work...

    Weird wiper delay video

I replaced the lever this summer. Not sure if I have the original still laying around. Ill have to check.

    Weird wiper delay video

Got this crazy wiper delay shown in this video. At least I hope it shows up. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer with this stuff sometimes. https://photos.app.goo.gl/QVQqiux6qRdLTGPx9 A little backstory. I have factory intermittent wipers with cruise. Some parts of the cruise didn't work...

    77 Power Steering Bracket

The pic almost looks to me like the belt should be on the inner pulley of the P.S. pump and not the outer one but the pic could be deceiving. That inner pulley is pretty dented up but they can be beat back into shape pretty easily. My 86 has the same P.S. pump, bracket and double pulley but I...

    Metering Block or Plate?

Agreed. Easier to tune. That's why the Quickfuel carbs are so nice. Most of them come with really cool tuning features like externally adjustable floats with windows. Externally adjustable secondary springs. Screw-in air bleeds, etc. All these things are available to upgrade your average...

Just when I think I have my carb dialed in, I don't

Just pump the throttle once. That should set the choke. Leave the key off because of its electric choke it will start opening with the key on. Now adjust the choke like you did before so its just cracked open. Maybe 1/16"-1/8". After adjusting it you can then start it. If electric choke it...

Just when I think I have my carb dialed in, I don't

I would definitely agree that you need to set the choke before adjusting it. Adjusting the choke before setting it would make it close tight when you did set it. You don't want that. I also concur that it isn't unusual to need two pumps to start cold. I always give it two. The 383 in my boat...

    Edel Carb issues

Agreed. A vacuum gauge is pert near a mandatory tool for any carb tuning. FWIW, my square with QJ I can fire up cold and put it into gear almost immediately to get it out of the garage before it asphyxiates anybody and doesn't stumble even a little bit.

Just when I think I have my carb dialed in, I don't

Yes the fast idle shouldn't take that long to come in. Setting the choke should set the fast idle cam so its in fast idle as soon as it starts. I'm getting better with QJ's and pretty good with Holleys but never messed with a Eddy. Not sure what to tell you about that unfortunately.

Just when I think I have my carb dialed in, I don't

Sounds about right to me. 1/4" is too far open when stone cold. 1/16"-1/8" is how I've always set em. As long as it opens up as it warms then you should be good.

    Hard to refuse freebies

Couldn't agree more. I think Ford bought them purely to gain knowledge about forced air induction. The Ecoboost was the result of that knowledge and they still didn't get it right.

GM paper or K&N hi- flow filter, Worth the cost in a stock truck ?

I put K&N's in all my vehicles. When I buy a vehicle they're in my possession for a long time. Its easy to clean and reinstall. Do they make any perfomance increases? Yes and no. I put one in all three of my turbo Volvo's with the factory airbox. Yes there was a small increase in performance in...

    Wheel choices/help me decide

I'm no help at all but I think all three look good. The chrome reverse/smoothies are timeless. Kinda like a set of Crager S/S. They look good on anything. The stock ralley's w/trim rings are factory equipment and and never look bad on these trucks. The last ones also look great with the paint...

Choke not closing on rebuilt quadrajet

This how you set the choke now that you know its properly installed. Only can be done when cold before you turn the key on. Set it by a full pump of the throttle and then make sure its closed (or almost closed). I normally set it so its got about 1/16"-1/8" gap when closed. Then you can start...

What is the worst body work you've seen or done?

I apologize in advance to anybody who owns one but I have this tremendous hate for minivans. So to me its only apporpriate, justified and deserved.

Choke not closing on rebuilt quadrajet

My guess would be improperly installed. Take that black cover completely off the choke. When you remove it you'll see a coiled wire spring with a hook formed on the end of it. That coiled wire is part of the choke linkage. There should be a tab on the inside of the cover that needs to go into...

Pennsylvania, land of salty winter roads.

A turbocharged SBC in 82 and slammed stepper in 83? Talk about radical steps before their time!!!! OK, now that you got our attention, lets get on with it Paul Harvey.

    Removing PS Pump Pulley

Yes the HF puller/installer works fine. Just make sure you keep the puller bolt threads lubed up (as you should with any puller). I put a little anti-seize on them and all is good.

Power REAR WINDOW, Suburban Tailgate & Blazer Troubleshooting

LOL....agreed.. And I've had both. It probably wouldn't hurt to open up and lube that whole mechanical nightmare back there either. I remember having to go through that fire drill pretty much as an annual maintenance thing with my 88. It still wasn't enough living in the rust belt.

What have you done to your square lately??

No, still trying to figure why that one decides to work intermittently.
