    2002 - 4.8L to 5.3L or should I go to a 5.7L?

Finished up the front radiator support for the test stand. Had Jake weld pieces together and nuts to the angle iron, brushed, cleaned and painted the iron. Used a die and put M12x1.50 threads on the radiator studs. Bought a couple of rubber washers for each side and mounted the radiator.

    2002 - 4.8L to 5.3L or should I go to a 5.7L?

Got the other support leg installed. Notice the bolts on the support "feet". They are not bolted down, just inserted like a lock pin to prevent the feet from sliding left or right. The feet do not move up, because of the down weight of the engine on to them. Began the fitting of an angle iron...

    2002 - 4.8L to 5.3L or should I go to a 5.7L?

Got some angle iron and worked on making the front support stands to hold up the front of the engine and be a foundation for radiator support. The pics are of the driver's side support leg. As it got hot, I then started cleaning one of Jake's engines, a 6.0L Gen III LQ4, to help him out. With...

    2002 - 4.8L to 5.3L or should I go to a 5.7L?

good info. And I understand the concern of the money flow. When I actually rebuild the short block this winter, I have pondered if I want the natural look or do some really cool color to paint the valve covers. I have the winter to do more pondering and do the work. Since I got the...

    2002 - 4.8L to 5.3L or should I go to a 5.7L?

well I forgot I use LibreOffice to make my documents, spreadsheets etc, and I saved the Dropbox link above in *.ODS format and not Microsoft Excel format. Can others read that link? If not, I will make a copy of the spreadsheet in Excel format and then 'share' that in the next post. And I...

Re-Assembling the cleaned parts and new items for the start stand demo I am not a photographer. I held the camera steady but still get blurry pics Yes, the ECU will fit on TOP of the intake for the Start Stand Link to my dropbox spreadsheet doc for this build...

    2002 - 4.8L to 5.3L or should I go to a 5.7L?

I understand. Several months before they are out of the block. See below. Great score on the 5.3!!!! There are 2 ways to use a 5.3L: 1) as is and drop it in without any, what I call, "renewing". 2) Renew it with updated parts, with more beef parts and other needed parts. Renewing the 5.3L...

    2002 - 4.8L to 5.3L or should I go to a 5.7L?

Time factor will in the winter, when I will work inside the shop and warm (this shop has a Nat Gas heater) and less time available outside on the trucks (hopefully the PU will be going soon). As for price, that has been difficult to determine. I don't want to gouge but desire a fair price. I...

Found a LS into caprice conversion web site: http://www.brphotrods.com/products/77-90%20B%20body%20products/ and thx for the support. The PU comes first to finish though. LQ9s sounds like a plan, though expensive

    2002 - 4.8L to 5.3L or should I go to a 5.7L?

This first pic is after cleaning with purple power cleaner, but before using the Zep Fast 505 cleaner and before attacking the engine with the power washer (before it quit). All those black marks on the face of the head intake runners are now gone. Should have taken a pic after. After it is...

thank you throttle, I appreciate it. Your engine looks great. BTW, did you stay automatic transmission? I went NV4500 and have found that the hydraulic clutch slave is in the way for my long tube header on the DS. Will fully install the slave and see where things are at. Yes I bought the...

    2002 - 4.8L to 5.3L or should I go to a 5.7L?

Last year after starting my build thread on my 84 K1500 in this forum (see signature link), I noticed I should have put the build thread somewhere else (I assume anyway) as this posting area was dealing with the Engine swap subjects and the like, and not full builds. Well I have started a long...

    My First LS Swap

With the 87 model year, you can reuse the existing fuel tank, but need to upgrade the fuel pump in the tank. I covered what I had to do for my 1984 GMC upgrade in my thread in totally replacing the tank. Follow the GMC 1984 link in my signature. You might have to search the pages though for it...

If you are willing to search through my spreadsheet for various parts you can look at the file at dropbox https://www.dropbox.com/s/jiesm7cdbfhb7p8/1984%20K1500%20with%205.3L%20Parts%20costs.xls?dl=0 It lists part numbers that I acquired for my build (whose thread is in my signature)...

    86 K10 5.3 swap

For doing your own harness and building a small fuse box (4 fuses) that works great, see www.lt1swap.com for all his reference data, instructions and pictures on how to do it all. all free. All he charges is $75 to flash your ECU, he is one of several who does this full time now. But you don't...

is that just the shipping paint on the headers? looks too shiny any thing else. Be ready to burn off the shipping paint by running it, then put on some more permanent. On the driver's header I had to move the O2 sensor bung b/c the original put it in the middle of the shackle looking great

    87 v10 ls

hey thanks for watching. One of the reasons for a build thread is to get others to look at it for hints, helps and for corrections. So you have found an interest for her to come out of the house and visit and help out. Wish my wife had some interest in the building of the rig. Oh well. You...

looks like some good work there. I am in the middle of my build at the moment as well (See sig). The one thing I am lacking that you have in the pictures is the extra set of hands which makes me smile more than the truck. Good find(s). Nice your gal is out there with ya. I went NV4500...

TBI 350 to Vortec and Roller Cam

#1 The best bet is to either mic the cylinders yourself or ask the machine shop to see within specs. at 100k most of its life is gone, but if it was treated well, might still have 50k left in it. You need real numbers from the block itself then you know what your options are If within...

    Thinking of swapping to ls

The 87 R10 is a good candidate, because you can reuse the gas tank and maybe the lines, if they are in good shape. you will need a new fuel pump that should fit fine in your existing gas tank assembly. I cover that in my build thread listed in my sig (and above - thx for that referral old77...

    Ls1 block score!

good find and good ideas. I have found that most parts, if I shop smart, can be resold for the same and sometimes more than what I bought them for
