What have you done to your square lately??

Gave mine a quick bath in anticipation of putting it away for the winter.

    8 MPG?

IMO, yes, that's what you should expect. I have a '79 K20 with stock 400/400/3.73/31" tire combo and get a consistent 10mpg. These are already aero challenged, and a lift and bigger tires doesn't help. Love the velcro puppy!

    Fuel gauge

Yes, signal is sent through the printed circuit.

    Cluster interchange issues

You will need to make sure and run the correct printed circuit on the backside also. When I did this swap on my '79 no repinning of the plug was necessary.

My 1982 Buick Grand National Project basket case

    IIRC, non turbo. Correct?

My 1982 Buick Grand National Project basket case

Cool project! I love G-bodies, have a 85 SS myself. If your other has a turbo V6 in it already, I would be doing the deed to piss everybody off and do a LS swap... But that's just me.

    Retrofitting a factory tachometer?

There's a sticky in the gauge/speedo sub-section that is a compilation of my journey putting a tach cluster in my truck. It's been several years since then, but it should provide some good info for you. I will answer any questions I can to help you along...

    Retrofitting a factory tachometer?

As said, for the most part, yes. There are other things that will need to be addressed, but if you have a donor cluster it should be "easy".

    Aftermarket Cam for stock 350

Just a thought for the OP... You say this is a good running small block already. Cool. Why are you going to tear down a good running engine? I would suggest doing a compression test and leak-down test on the engine first. If those two tests check out and indicate nothing is wrong with your...

    Omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg!

My first thought was that it HAS TO BE good ole Rusty.... I was not disappointed! This motor is on my "oddball" must do list. But I will admit... wouldn't a 502bbc put out the same amount of power? Cheaper?

    Awful gas milage.

I remember seeing somewhere that you will achieve your best mpg when your engine is at its peak torque. True or not, I can't confirm. I have also heard that to achieve the best mpg, you want you engine to turn the rpm where max vacuum happens. Hook up a vacuum gauge and go for a cruise...

    UpBadging ?

Is yours like mine? Who really cares what badge is on it? Honestly when I check out a square body, I never look at what badge it has. I don’t say oh it’s just a custom deluxe, or oh my god hard on it’s a Silverado. I wouldn’t waste my time changing badges.

    Power Tour 2019

Several years ago the route went through my town! My Dad and I parked ourselves in a church parking lot right by an intersection. Amazing choice as we got to hear every car accelerate! Just past the intersection the road had a nice downhill that allowed you to see quite far down the road...

    '89 Celebrity Wagon

I bought an '84, complete with a carb'd 2.8, from my Uncle for $200, so I didn't have to drive my Monte through the winter. Drove it for three years until I sold it for $250! I beat the piss outta that thing and it took everything pretty good. Sold it to buy my grandpa's '88 Olds 98.

Two Piece Timing Covers - sbc

Not having to drop the pan is the biggest draw for me. Pulling the balancer is no big deal. I am looking at one for my Monte Carlo, as the cam I have installed may or may not be too big. I think the cam will be fine, but just in case...

Two Piece Timing Covers - sbc

How many of you guys have used a two-piece timing cover, thinking it would make cam swaps easier? What was your experience like? Do it again? Which one did you use? Did yours leak more than a conventional one-piece cover, or was it fine? Thanks in advance for the responses.

I quite like it! I would take your brown over a black interior any day.
