    Operating under temp.

Running a 210* thermostat will allow your oil to get a smidge warmer and evaporate any water moisture in it. As long as you have the right mix of coolant, 210 is fine.

    Operating under temp.

I don't have much to add other than my 79 runs really cold, like it rarely comes off of the "C" mark, and my truck kicks out the heat like you wouldn't believe. Maybe check that everything is proper after the heater core replacement?

    Vortex heads

Nobody is bashing Vortec cylinder heads. At least not from when I jumped in. All the soot talk above that I didn't even read.

    Vortex heads

Don't low ball them... day no wat dey gots!! I just ran across some Dart SHP 200's on Marketplace. Those would be cool on my truck...

    Vortex heads

Vortex = Vortec just like Eldebrock = Edelbrock Actually, the couple of times I have seen Vortex being used in local ads, it turns out they are the swirl port heads that have the center bolt valve covers like the real Vortecs.

What fluid stains do your daily drivers leave?

My daily, '01 Montana with 226k, leaks oil from the distributor plug gasket. The body also leaks metal flakes at a consistent rate. My square leaks from... everywhere. Unless I drive it consistently. Then the seals revive themselves and its fine.

need tire help for stock 16"x 6.5"wide wheels

Your tire stores suck. Don't listen to them. The tire place that did mine never even hinted at it being a problem. I think my 265's on the 6.5" wheels looks great. 285's are crossing to the other side. And 305's are too wide, imo.

    Soften the Ride!

Do you still have rubber bushings in your shackles? I have heard that going to poly bushings makes the ride nicer due to actually letting your shackles and springs go through their proper motions, and not binding against the stock rubber components.

need tire help for stock 16"x 6.5"wide wheels

Yes, stock 6.5 wheels and 265's, stock suspension. If the extra $$ doesn't bother you, I would go with some 285's. They will fit your stock wheels and fill out the wheel wells better with your lift. My plan is to do a 2"ish lift and some 305/70-16, or 33x12.5. I saw a truck the other day...

To buy or not to buy? 1977 GMC short bed Ebay $4200

If the OP doesn't want or take any of the green interior parts, I would be interested in seeing them.

To buy or not to buy? 1977 GMC short bed Ebay $4200

You won't. No one does green repro interior parts. My 79 has a green interior. You will have to spray the parts green. I have accepted that it might be easier to switch to a different color interior if time ever demands it. I think a dark brown interior would be good with my green exterior.

    LS swap

I think the main questions to ask yourself are... Are you doing the work yourself? If you are, you better get to doing some deep research before jumping in. What are you intended uses for the truck? Daily driver with lots of miles every year? Or restore and only put on a couple thousand...

Headers? worth the effort & cost?

For $700, not worth it on a stock engine.

Need to see picts of squares with 265/75/16 tires & 285/75/16

My pic won't help much, seeing as how you have some new wheels coming. 265's on stock wheels. I am looking forward to seeing how your new setup will look. What you are doing is exactly what I want to do. I was hoping to go either 285's with no lift, or 305's with no or minor lift.

Factory Stand Alone 0411 PCM for 4L80e

The Express and Savanna Van's also run the old school small block. I have my eyes open for cheap ones, to scavenge the 0411 and the drivetrain, so I can transfer stuff to my 400 for EFI.

    turbo charging ?

When I read you only want 3-4 psi, I question why do it in the first place? Obviously more power, but heads and a cam will probably get you to the same power level.

Damn, I was going to search for Sniper info on this site today, and I see this. You have one on your Olds and Vbb has one on his 502. I saw a used one local to me that I was considering. I need to consult my checkbook...
