    Hood brace kits?

Has anyone had a problem with their hood manufactured after 1980? I was going to add braces to mine at one point but since the kits are listed as 73-80 it seems GM fixed the problem for '81 and later.

    383 Vortec/TBI Build Thread

You might consider ditching the 0-100 fuel gauge. A 0-30 liquid filled gauge is easier to read and can register an increase of less than 1 psi when you're using an adjustable regulator. I've been using the Jegs house brand gauge for about ten years without any issues.

    Recommendations? Sway bar

I'm running a model 7535 Hellwig bar in the back and added poly bushings to the front. Being lifted with a roof rack, the truck was leaning badly but the mods tamed it down pretty well provided I don't drive like a madman.

    Harbor Freight Tool/Product Review

Bought the hi-res inspection camera from HF. Needed something that would help me open the door of my dd '94 Accord which was suffering from the dreaded latch failure. If you've never heard of it, imagine kneeling on the driver's seat facing backwards while trying to pick/pull on a tiny pin...

    DiHydrogen Oxide

Holy crap, I've been washing my truck with this stuff. Why isn't there a warning label?

    Well damn!!!!

Had mine replaced a year and a half ago. New glass with antenna, new seal, and installation was $140. Personally, I wouldn't bother with the fix-it kits if the chip is in your line of sight. You're still going to see it and, if you're like me, it will bother you every time you look at it. You...

    Battery died

The "added one that wasn't in it's place" sounds suspicious. Maybe the po traced a drain to that circuit and just pulled the fuse. Pull that fuse and see if the issue repeats.

    Maaco?

The shop that did my Suburban had a couple of Maaco cars in to correct orange peel from end to end. It's possible that somewhere there's a Maaco painter that knows what he's doing but it seems more like a place guys work at as a first job.

What new tools have you got lately?

Finally got my HF air dryer hooked up and running. This is is the setup I had before, an air-to-air cooler on the first stage and a refrigerated cooler after the second stage. I had tried running all of the first stage through the air-to-air but it only had 1/4" lines in/out and was slowing...

    Grill refurbish

I found a dark gray for the inserts that has just a hint of metal flake in it. Looks really good when the sun hits it from the right angle. Krylon Fusion for Plastic, Textured Shimmer 2520. It's listed as black but goes on gray. Did mine seven or eight years ago and it hasn't faded or chipped at...

How many of you Crayon eaters know what this tool is???

Had a pair when I worked in the aerospace industry but couldn't get them out the door when I left. Too bad, every once in a while I could use them and spinning a pair of vice grips just ain't the same.

    looking for a Grumman van

When I was at FedEx Ground the vans we had at the beginning were Navistar frames running their 7.3 diesel with bodies made by Supreme. The later trucks were Grumman bodies with the Cummins 6bt. I was wishing I could combine the two because the Supreme body was far better than the Grumman but...

    What is this? (LSPV Valve)

They were still being installed through the '89 model year. The TSB GM issued on the lspv instructed mechanics to just bypass the valve. I'm guessing whoever did the op's truck had the same issue as you and added their own adjustable valve. The tsb can be found in post number 5 but don't...

    What is this? (LSPV Valve)

There WAS a lspv there at one time but the hard lines look like the only thing left besides that angular bracket coming off the top of the differential which can also be removed. Yours looks like someone swapped in some type of valve with a thumbwheel adjuster.

14b ff vs 14b sf width

Thanks hdr, I had seen that article before but read it again to refresh my memory. @Blue Ox. Excuse my stupidity but I'm not exactly clear on the possibility of different pinion angles between 2wd and 4wd. Are you saying the spring perches were welded on in a different fore/aft position...

14b ff vs 14b sf width

Same, 4.10 Another thing that seems strange (from what I've read) is that after 1986 the ff drums were removable without taking out the axle shafts. This axle appears to be the older style but I'm not positive of what I'm looking at. First pic is the one for sale and the second is what I'm...

14b ff vs 14b sf width

I'm thinking about swapping my semi-float axle for a full-float. Found one on CL from an '86 Suburban with the 13" drums and 4.10 gears I need. Only concern I have is he lists the wms to wms as 66". I measured my semi-float axle and it's an inch wider at 67". Is that difference because his is...

Best way to quiet an exhaust

That's what I have. I went to the muffler shop thinking Flowmaster but the guy said I wouldn't be happy with the extra noise since I drive a Suburban. That was 16 years ago and if it ever wears out I'll put the exact same thing on again.

Need at least 35" tires for my dually.

Never heard of Power King. From what I could find it looks like they are made in China and have no mileage warranty. At $200 per tire, I'd rather pay an extra $20 and get something made in the U.S. with a warranty.

Need at least 35" tires for my dually.

You're right, those are almost identical. I guess the crooked block pattern is the latest craze. Both are load range E and made in the U.S., the Toyos are a little more money than PC and a couple bucks less than the BFGs.

Need at least 35" tires for my dually.

Pro Comp has a 315/75r16 tire that is 35" but I don't know what you consider "big bucks" on pricing. These are about $35 per tire les than a similar BFGoodrich. I waited for a sale and got 4 for the price of three...

What is your daily if not square body?

'94 Accord wagon. Actually bought it so my old dog could use a ramp to get in and out but I calculated the fuel savings of driving this instead of the Suburban and at 30K miles it had paid for itself.
