Glass shops can epoxy those to help keep them from spreading.

Or,... Squarebody windshields are about the cheapest ones you can buy so, pain that it is, it could be a lot worse.

Thats true because it could have spidered right from there when it happened. Never had to change this windshield so im not sure of price.

Before you do anything else, get the RainX windshield repair kit. If you do it carefully, it can be fixed like it never happened, and worst case scenario, it won’t spread out from that. I’ve foxed my car windshield three different times, and I’ve done other windshields, too. Works great. Just make sure you follow the instructions to a tee. They sell it in the TLE section of Wally World

Probably the same thing the glass shops use. Definitely worth a try. I had one done on the 'burb and it was fine until we broke the windshield trying to take it out to fix a leak.

Safelite Repair, Safelite Replace !!! F Safelite. Expensive as hell that's who they swallow up your deductible AT NOT COST TO YOU. But yeah, just do that windshield epoxy repair. It'll leave a dot on the windshield, but why get a new one when it's just going to happen again. That one is small enough for a good repair.

Had mine replaced a year and a half ago. New glass with antenna, new seal, and installation was $140. Personally, I wouldn't bother with the fix-it kits if the chip is in your line of sight. You're still going to see it and, if you're like me, it will bother you every time you look at it.

You never realize how bad your old windshield is until you have new glass installed. Having all the sand pitting and little blemishes gone is a treat. I swear my truck ran better, had more power, and got better mpg after the new glass was installed.

Is there a way to tell if the cab is rusted out under the windshield seal before you remove the windshield for replacement?

I ask because a friend of mine had taken his '83 Suburban in to get a new windshield. They popped the old one out and then said it was too rusted to put the new one in. They called him up and told him to come pick it up unfinished. He had to drive 15 miles home without a windshield.

A scratched, pitted windshield is better than no windshield.

Im always a lil leary (if thats how you say is spell it) of replacing windshields in older trucks like this as i get worried when it comes out that ill be rotted around it.

I went to a local shop to see if they'd install the glass if I supplied the gasket since it is a '65 and they may have difficulty getting one and I had already bought it from Steele-Rubber Company. He asked what vehicle and I said that truck right there, the '65 I drove in here. "We don't replace glass on anything older than 1974." I had planned on removing the old glass, and cleaning up the metal, and then drive it illegally the few miles to the shop, but he shut me down before I could even tell him that.
