Zinc, Engine oil and flat cams

Detergents also neutralise acids as they are alkaline based, its the main additive for the reserve alkalinity of engine oils. They will often (especially in the case of diesel oils) be used with a dispersant additive - thats all about preventing soot particles from agglomerating and keep them...

TH400 shift problems (At the column)

I've been having a similar issue lately with my burb. Very hard to shift from P through to D, cant really feel any of the gear detents. Cant get the trans into 2 or low with the shifter. I need to disconnect the shift mechanism and see where the issue lies - in the trans or shifter

    R20 Stock Ride Height?

Full airbag to the rear would be ideal, but where I am it would likely be too much $$$ for registration engineering certification for me to bother with.

    R20 Stock Ride Height?

I thinking front could do with some drop spindles and then change the springs to something with a softer rate and maintain the current height. Or change to full airbag on the front as well could be an option I'll likely get the rears reset locally and I'll look at getting some leaves removed to...

    R20 Stock Ride Height?

Bit of a thread mine, but I'll blame google for unearthing it:) Anyway I've been thinking about doing something to make my 3/4 burb ride a little nicer. But first I wanted to see what sort of drop its had. Is there anymore specific measurements available to the above chart - anything that takes...

What have you done to your square lately??

Threw a new distributor, coil and leads into my Burb. Found the harmonic balancer has slipped the outer ring when timing her up, so guess I'll be adding that as one of the next jobs to do

    removing cluster from 89 burb

It wasn't a tap I believe that may have been a typo and was supposed to be tab. At least that's my interpretation as I did have to depress a tab/spring clip. That was a new one for me as every other car I've worked on with a mechanical speedo the cable was screwed to the back of the cluster.

    removing cluster from 89 burb

    removing cluster from 89 burb

Well that method wont work for me - full fibreglass dash from the right hand drive conversion.

    removing cluster from 89 burb

I've had some feedback on a facebook group to just pull the cluster forward and then remove the speedo cable. Unfortantly I cant pull it forward due to the dash design. The cluster needs to move to the right in order to clear everything. Theres a metal beam behind the cluster and the speedo...

    removing cluster from 89 burb

Hi All, Im in the process of trying to remove the instrument cluster in my 89 burb due to an intermittent speedo issue. Just have a quick question regarding removal of the speedo cable. It looks like theres a couple of screws that are required to be removed for the speedo cable to come out...

    Emissions removal instructions thread?

While we are on this subject, I just started removal of the smog pump from my 89 burb - 454 TBI. I've just removed the pump and idler pulley along with all the brackets for those. Although I do need to cut it down a bit as it had a support for the front of the A/C compressor and without it I can...

454 TBI manifold - air injection

Hi All, I've got a question for you all in regards to the air injection ports on a 454 exhaust manifold. Im looking at removing the air pump and all the pipework (I dont need to worry about emissions stuff here). I'd like to know what size plugs would be required to block up the manifolds once...

Welding or Lunchbox front Diff locker for K10?

If your going to spool or weld the diff do it to the rear one not the front. If you do it on the front axle then steering will be affected any time you have the hubs locked in. Auto locker, LSD or selectable locker in the front only IMHO

    89 suburban speedo

thought I'd post an update to this - I pulled the gearbox end of the speedo cable off and hooked up my drill. 15 mins with the speedo at up around 70mph and working fine? Not too sure whats going on here as I cant replicate the issue in the shed. Still stops working on the road, however with the...

454 TBI Timing Question, too much advance?

Factory spec for base timing is 4* from memory, which is what mine has been set to since I got it. I haven't had a play around to see if it can be optimised at all so would also be interested in other experiences
