    the viper mistake

No dead pedal? Even my 1997 Taurus has a dead pedal. I hereby sentence you to watching all 78 episodes of this. ;) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viper_(TV_series)

Rebuild and sell or part out?

Even if it was a 350 you wouldn't get your money back rebuilding it. I have over $7K in my 1982 3500 GMC flatbed and people only want to offer me $1000.

Talk me out of cutting my dash

If you want cheap, find a PYLE PLR14MPF. It has a USB port and SD card slot for playing MP3, but the tuner is analog. This company makes radios with digital tuners, some with aux inputs and/or ports for playing MP3 and WMA files. https://www.classiccarstereos.com/gmc-radios.html Could rip your...

    Deformable LED Garage lights anyone?

Not Star Wars, Transformers. The heat sink panels are sort of shaped like the Autobots symbol. https://1000logos.net/autobots-logo/

Are 7 inch LED headlights good?

If you live where you get snow, or plan to go to places where snow happens, you'll want LED lamps with built in heaters that come on automatically at low temperatures. Drive in a snowstorm without lens heaters and the snow will collect on them.

    1987 Bronco 2 project?

Grab a 3.0 60 degree V6 out of some newer RWD Ford car and start there. IIRC Ford nerfed the power of their 60 degree V6 in trucks, just like GM did. Ooooorrrrrrrr. If you wanna really go wild, a Taurus SHO V8. The upper intake flips around with some minor modifications and the bellhousing...

Why do older cars smell different?

A common plastic used in cars just prior to WW2 and for a while after was Tenite. It's a cellulose based plastic that's still made by the Eastman company that invented it. (No relation to Eastman Kodak.) The problems with the old Tenite are related to its properties that made it attractive to...

    Engine Boom Progress

Removing all the oil galley plugs and running bore brushes through them will also be a good thing to do.

    LED headlights

One thing to keep in mind about LED headlamps. If you live in snow country most of them won't melt snow off them. You'll want ones with heaters. The first ones available were 7" round ones for motorcycles and Jeep Wranglers with transparent heater grids that would come on at a preset low temp. I...

    Door panel plastic restoration

Yup. Baking soda blasting followed by a water rinse. I cleaned a pair of decent tan panels with acetone then sprayed on maroon stuff that was supposed to dye the plastic. It peeled right off. then I used soda blasting and sprayed on some normal paint. They don't look as nice as a good original...

Tired 350 TBI, suggestions to wake it up a bit?

A hissing sound can be back pressure escaping because the catalytic converter is just about plugged. Lots of exhaust back pressure will make it run real poorly. Proper fix is a new cat, but on the older vehicles that don't have sensors downstream of the cat you can get by with knocking the...

    Column swap help..

If that auto column is a real 4 speed one, it's worth some $ to people doing 700-R4 upgrades.
  13. G

    $5,000? YOU WISH !

That's the problem. The 4 speed shift plate in the column is unobtainable except for taking it from an original 4 speed column. Nobody makes reproductions of that part. SOME COMPANY NEEDS TO! They should also make them for older trucks that never had a 4 speed auto option.

    $5,000? YOU WISH !

Square bodies aren't getting any more common. They don't last long in the yards around here. If the truck had a 700-R4 then the #1 item to go first is the steering column. I've spent plenty more than $5K on mine. I shouldn't be expected to lose 90% of what I have in it. When the heck is some...

    $5,000? YOU WISH !

I'm asking $5K for my 82 1 ton dually flatbed with freshly rebuilt 1991 TBI 350, rebuilt 700-R4. I've done a lot to the truck, including upgrading the instrument panel from the original idiot light style. Got $2K just in the tires, mounting and balancing. $5K is stealing the drivetrain and...

    Retractable Running boards ?

Some Cadillac Escalades have them. Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition Aftermarket, but these will run you $1,000+ Dunno if they have them for standard cab length. You'd have to make mountings etc to fit a square body no matter what ones you choose.

1982 GMC one ton dually flatbed W TBI and 700-R4

Selling my project truck. 1982 GMC one ton dually flatbed. 1991 Chevy 350 with throttle body injection and 700-R4 transmission, both rebuilt. Engine has cast steel Eagle crank, King racing bearings, new flat top pistons, billet aluminum small cap HEI distributor. Theottle body has new injectors...

1982 one ton dually flatbed with TBI & 700R4

Lots of stuff done on it. It needs to go to a new home where it can be finished and used like a truck. https://boise.craigslist.org/cto/d/1982-gmc-one-ton-flatbed/6331766809.html

Still waiting for aftermarket 4 speed column shift conversion kit.

The supply of 1987 and earlier steering columns with the correct shifter setup for the 700R4 is *not infinite*. Those columns are now extremely difficult to find because the junkyards are getting rid of those older trucks, and any that come in with a factory 700R4, the steering column is one of...

Wipers only slow, no intermittent on 1982 with upgrade.

Pretty sure I cut wires. It did not originally have intermittent wipers. From what I dug up, the dash mounted intermittent wiper setup was never common (IIRC the first year of it was different, perhaps even needing a wiper motor just for that system) and getting the switch and other parts to...

What have you done to your square lately??

1982 1 ton flatbed dually with 1991 Chevy TBI 350+700R4 swap. Got it back together for the second time. Second time? Yup. Sometime after I got it running the first time, some a-hole* dropped a small hex nut down the intake and poured a bunch of iron shavings into the crankcase. Distorted #8...

Wipers only slow, no intermittent on 1982 with upgrade.

Finally got things back together, for the second time, on my 1982 GMC 1 ton dually flatbed with 1991 Chevy TBI 350+700R4 swap. Along with installing a tilt steering column out of a newer Suburban, I changed from the dash mounted wiper switch to the column mount and also added the intermittent...

    Replacement pistons for 1991 350?

Casting number inside the dish top pistons is 10128212. They're in an engine from a 1991 1-ton. Definitely the newer engine with 1 piece rear seal and the bosses for the roller lifter alignment thing. Doesn't have roller lifters, darnit. :p I had to use the thin rings for the shallower ring...

    TBI engine for 1977 truck

If you go with the vintage transmission and transfer you'll have to come up with a flywheel to match the external balance requirements of the 1995 engine. Then you'll need something customized with the ECM to take care of the missing electronic controlled transmission. You'll also have to adapt...

    How to Identify a 700r4

What was a 8TUM170A originally used in? It has the pressure taps so I assume it's a 1988. M of course means 700R4. What's the TU? I've been looking for but not finding a list or chart listing what the first to letters mean, or what the characters after the M are for. I need the specifics...
