    Leaf springs

I'd check out Rock Auto. They are a sponsor here so you can get 5% off. They list leaf springs by weight capacity and how many leafs are in the spring pack. There were several different options of springs available on all trucks. I bought my longer rear springs from them.

    Gov loc differential???

I had a 1998 ZR2 that had the G80 from the factory in the rear axle. At times it would engage rather rough but never had issues with it offroading. It was only on 31" tires. I was on a ZR2 forum back then and failures were not that common unless someone was doing something very stupid. I had a...

Equal - Tire Balancing Beads, No weights to Lose

I just realized I never updated this thread. I bought some KMC beadlock wheels and some 37x13.50 tires in September of 2020. Mounted them in my garage and used airsoft pellets. I had bought some MetalTac Airsoft BBs from Amazon. Came in 2 packages. 0.25g and 8,000 rounds. I split those into...

What are some options for mud flaps?

Both the squarebody trucks I bought in Montana had mud flaps from the previous owner. Even on my dad's truck he has Peterbilt rear flaps and Yosemite sam back off front flaps. They have since been ripped off after dragging the bumper thru the tank trap section at the local off road park...

    17 inch wheels

The closest wheel I can think of for you to compare is the old Hummer H2 wheels. They were 17x8.5 and had a 5.5" backspace. I've seen several run those on squarebodies.

    17 inch wheels

Doubt you will hear back- that was a post from 9 years ago and the poster hasn't been back in 8 years. Although the wheels would probably fit I'd think it is better to stick to roughly around 4" of backspacing.

The Future of Battery Electric Vehicles (and I don't like them)

You are assuming there will be a choice in the matter. I'm thinking that they will just make sure the price of fuel stays high- and then goes higher. That way there is incentive to go buy an expensive EV. Then when that fails start doing penalties for driving a gas vehicle. Extra road taxes...

    BFGoodrich or Cooper?

BFG claimed the sidewall tread was designed that way on purpose to help tip/guide potential hazards away from just getting jammed straight up into the sidewall: The tire manufacturer claims that the KO2 sidewall is 20 per cent stronger than the original KO tire, and incorporates an advanced...

79 k10 Newbie issues. Stressed out Mom, please help!

Did this truck supposedly run and drive before the rear driveshaft was removed? So far I'd think the transmission is slipping/transmission is bad. Especially how sometimes it would move a bit with lots of gas. Was the trans fluid dark/burned when it was changed? The 203 transfer case is a...

The Future of Battery Electric Vehicles (and I don't like them)

150 birds was just bald eagles. And since they think there are only 300,000 bald eagles in the US that is why the number is small. According to the Sierra Club around 1 million birds are killed per year by wind turbines. Think that number is bad? Power lines themselves are 25 million. Cats? 1-4...

Selecting offset wheels for my Lifted 85 K20

I ran some cheap Vision Soft 8 steel wheels with a -6 offset (4.25" backspace) wheels with 315/75R16 tires. Worked fine for me.

The Future of Battery Electric Vehicles (and I don't like them)

Montana has 64 charging stations so far in a recent EV article I've read. This is a big state and it can get very cold in winter. Not practical for most people here.

Anyone have Bilstein shocks on their stock 4x4? Shock brand questions.

I had the classic yellow/blue Bilsteins on two different stock height trucks (mine and my dad's) and thought they were great. However when I bought another truck money was a bit tight- so I tried the KYB monoMAX shocks (stock height). Thought they rode as well as the Bilsteins and were cheaper.

    Axle Placement and Truck Height

It could just be the way the springs have settled so far. Does your truck have dual gas tanks? (Isn't a single tank only on the driver's side?) Do you drive with just you in the cab? Or have a passenger to "balance out" the weight? What brand springs were they? On your front spring shackles...

    Headers vs corvette manifolds

I think it was only the truck versions that "kicked back". And they were 2" and not 2.5". Corvette ones were straight down center dump. At least that was the info I found when I installed mine probably 7 years ago. There maybe some different aftermarket variants available now.

    Headers vs corvette manifolds

I have the 2.5" center dump reproductions. There was clearance issues on the driver's side with the motor mount. Passenger side was fine. But I have an automatic and not a manual. Not sure if there will be issues with that.

Which one to pick, TH350 or TH400 ?

A lot of 5th wheel hitches were just bolted on to the bed- at least in the 80s. My dad bought a 18' 5th wheel in 1988 and the RV place did just that. He has towed it ever since (34 years). It's been towed all over the western US and Canada. He even towed my 21' 5th wheel a few times. But mine...

    Headlight, driving lights.

I did get those yellow fog light covers for my LED offroad lights. I put them on the "pencil" beam ones. There is no upper cutoff, so it isn't ideal. But the yellow was much better to see with when I drove thru a snowstorm and can see better contrast with snow on the ground. Not as blinding.

    Finally ordering the lift

Tuff Country EZ rides are affordable. After that it is custom springs like Deavers or the ones from Offroad Design (Alcan spring). They use more leaves, but they are thinner and more flexible.

1987 Chevrolet V20 front leaf spring replacement

I haven't run a front sway bar for probably 10 years. Quite a few of the aftermarket leaf springs are fairly stiff- so there won't be much body roll in normal driving. However if you haul a big slide in camper then you'd probably want to keep it, or if you like driving high speeds on twisty...

1987 Chevrolet V20 front leaf spring replacement

The sway bar geometry isn't correct for a lifted truck. When the truck is stock the sway bar sits somewhat flat. When a truck is lifted you will notice that the sway bar angle is downward from the frame to the ubolt plates. This causes a bit of a binding issue- especially when hitting bumps...

1987 Chevrolet V20 front leaf spring replacement

^^^^ Yeah, what he said. My bolts were rusted solid to the steel sleeve inside the rubber bushings. Anytime I hammered it with everything I had the rubber would absorb a lot of the impact. Had to cut/chop the bolts to get them out of there.

    LED Round Headlight Conversion

Figured I'd update this thread as I just read an article about LED lighting for those who have the "old school" sealed beam headlights. Holley has come out with a headlight that looks period correct. No alien bug eye type look. And they fit in the original headlight buckets without modification...

Converted NP203 grinding sound in 2WD

I was just thinking maybe your chain broke. As after mine broke the shifter would rattle and make noise and there was noises from the transfer case. Then after the sound coming and going it "went away". Everything was nice and quiet. And then the day I went to go play in the snow I found that I...
