    350 Water Pump Woes

I said that something earlier. Purchase a quality brand new pump, use coolant mixed properly either premixed or distilled water, and why not check the pH with test strips couldn't hurt. Heck there is a lot of coolant still in the block, maybe it's way out of whack. I think the take away from...

    Preferred Solder for Automotive Wiring

That's actually a really good comment. There was a guy at the shop that used those and his electrical work was very good. I used them a couple times just to see what they were like (and frankly to make sure they would up to snuff for our work) which they certainly are. I'm just use to regular...

    Preferred Solder for Automotive Wiring

Unrelated, but somewhat related to your post. At the shop. We still have analog phones, and one of those analog phone boxes with about a million wires in it, and then that runs into some kind of a converter box so our antique phone system can talk digital I guess. So about a year or so ago we...

    Preferred Solder for Automotive Wiring

Yes that's right an open flame "bic" type lighter. Back in the day it was common place for guys to use them or even a match to shrink shrink wrap and you'd end up with the shrink wrap burned, or not shrinked enough or a little of both. I suppose it's better than leaving an open joint, but it's...

    Preferred Solder for Automotive Wiring

I've done tons of wiring soldering and honestly I have no preference or flux. The old 60/40 would be my preference as it use to be the gold standard so it's what I know, but with the modern solder anything that is meant for stranded wiring is fine for me. @DoubleDingo you didn't ask for it...

ESC need someone that knows more about ESC system than I do

Your absolutely right, without a doubt a limiter combined with a better vac advance can, would likely be better. Heck I still have the original can from my original distributor I could use and limit. But at the time I needed to use the truck and I had the adjustable can on hand, and it's...

ESC need someone that knows more about ESC system than I do

And that's actually a really good point. I "think" I've never seen one, but have heard that there were a few 350's that did roll with the ESC. The only reason not to would be the difficulty in getting a good module if mine ever croaks again. To that end I suppose the answer is not to overdue...

ESC need someone that knows more about ESC system than I do

I can't really tell you what the stock distributor did, I never checked when my OEM distributor was in there and I've never checked total timing in the current one. I've just seen how fast the mechanical timing comes in and where it stops going up but never turned the dial on the timing light...

ESC need someone that knows more about ESC system than I do

I don't know how much help I'm going to be but I will give you what I have. As I understand it the stock vacuum advance can pulls 20 inches. I never measured mine when it was installed. Against you advice I'm running a Pertronix D9006 Flame-Thrower Adjustable Vacuum Advance Canister. For...

How many gallons can you put in your gas tank?

It's been done. It's actually a very common thing for folks to do who want to eliminate the saddle tanks, search the forums for it. But I will say I did consider adding one as a third tank 31 gallons. Total 61 gallons, leaving 3 gallons in each tank that's 52 gallons @ 14 per-gallon that's...

1986 Chevy c10 stalls in gear until warm (even on hot mornings)

@Davidj You have already received plenty of good advice, but I'd like to provide you with this link as an example. >>>> https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/how-a-carbureted-engine-should-start-and-run-cold.36845/ <<<< In that video you'll see my truck cold start, one pump on the gas, in...

    350 Water Pump Woes

Eric is absolutely right about this, I still think that if it was a coolant issue or ground / electrolysis issue that it would be showing up in other places besides the back of his water pumps, but you never know. Seriously, though Mike and I just made a pool joke out of coolant your tap water...

    350 Water Pump Woes

Are you purchasing remanufactured Napa pumps or new? If they are remanufactured they might have all ready had pin holes in it, that they patched up during the remanufacturing process and didn't do a very good job. It look like Gates make the new water pumps for Napa and rayloc the reman'ed...

    Adding 81-82 bumper fog lights

Can't be much, but I also can't think of a time I've needed to know (practically). At least in wiring to the parking lights instead of the actual low beam wire I bet you dim your headlights a lot less, but ya I get the ease of installation, or speed of installation sometimes is what is needed...

    Adding 81-82 bumper fog lights

Well that is true too, I don't disagree, but the point we are all trying to make is the pewny headlight wiring is designed for the headlights only. Give it a shot sometime, turn your headights on with alligator clamps hook a set of hella 550's to your battery and make note of how much your...

Do intermittent wipers use a different wiper motor?

As far as I know Dave is correct, but I'm also going to draw @Doppleganger Chris in because I know he knows these wiper motors inside and out. I will also add that the intermittent modules are not very reliable and prone to failure. You will need an intermittent switch as well. What I would...

    Adding 81-82 bumper fog lights

One comment on wiring them into the low beams, Like Grit said the way to do it is to wire them so the low beams trigger a relay and the fog or droving lights are powered separately. If you were to wire them directly to the low beams you'd tax the old wiring and at the very least dim them down...

    Wireing help please

I was thinking the one in his hand is oil pressure the other is HEI power, but he says the oil pressure gauge is hooked up. Base info on the truck would be helpful. Maybe a picture zoomed out a little more might help. Does the truck have a factory tach?

How many gallons can you put in your gas tank?

Of course I bought my truck used and had different wanted specifications, like I wanted a C/K 20 or 30 but the only option I had to have was A/C.

@Soundmound no they are not suppose to hiss. I have no idea where you'd get a replacement other than Greg's link.

How many gallons can you put in your gas tank?

As far as I know what you have said is correct. All the truck C/K 10 - 30 will use the same resistor because they have the same sending unit, the C 50's & C60's use a different resistor, the Blazers and Suburban's I think use the same resistor but is different from all the others. I also...

    Heater Core how to

We I hope someone better with blend doors than me chimes in. One of the problem is blend door issues are so rare on these trucks I haven't had to do much. Like I said if it was in front of me I'd fart around with it until it was right, but it's hard for me to advise you. What I can advise you...

    Heater Core how to

@Soundmound Which blend door are we looking at? To be honest with you I'm not the best with blend doors unless they are in front of me and I can move stuff and see how it is working. But I will add this, if you marked all of the rods and such when you disconnected things and it worked before...

How many gallons can you put in your gas tank?

Ok here is a story for you. My Dad bought a 78' K20 in 80'. Since it was the newest vehicle my parents owned, we took it on a lot of trips, three of us in the cab, Dad, Mom and me. Dad bought a canopy for it that he'd put on before these trips, so there was no passing the nozzle from side to...
