    General Motor Swap Questions

I would budget a rebuild for your 700 trans in the near future. I guess we need to know how many miles are on it and was it maintained. You need to set the TV cable correctly after you get the new engine set. If you don't set it correctly, the 700 won't live long. If it has a lot of miles, you...

    OIL

There's a guy on u tube his name is Uncle Tony he does a good job at discussing Lucas oil stabilizer and other additives. I used to run a quart in my truck when it sat for a long time between drives. Thats what Lucas is good for it sticks to surfaces. It doesn't flow well. It makes a good...

    Oil pans, pumps, etc

Is the engine new? I would run a stock oil pump on an older stock motor. You usually run a high-pressure pump on a high rpm engine. Most builders run a high-volume oil pump on a built motor with bearing clearances on the high side. If your motor is worn out and the bearing clearances are high...

Where to buy stock mechanical fuel pump that isn't trash?

I bought a Jeg's brand pump; it looked like a good quality pump for a decent price. It left me stranded going to work one morning. It was only a few months old. I stepped up to an Edelbrock and have been running it for over a year. They are expensive but seem to be of great quality. I took the...

    1985 wipers

Does the truck still have the intermittent wiper electronic box connected. If so it maybe the problem. Its at the base of the steering column , under the dash. You can bypass it by unplugging the cables from it and plugging them together. If it's the problem good luck finding a new one.

The mechanical parts will be available, and or made. The electronics and wiring such as the can buss, BCM's, TCM's etc. is what will kill them off. I don't for see the aftermarket or the OEM's making those parts for more than 10 years after the model run. The OEM's are already wanting to keep a...

    K-20 CV Joint

Rock Auto also has a kit. I don't know if it's the correct one. I would think they might be a better option. They also have the whole shaft. Thats the way I'm going to go.

Cold air at my feet and not to much in my face. Also no defrost...WTF

Thats a good point. Mine was cut in the engine bay. I had to run a new line through the fire wall. I also had some leaks with the plastic switching valve on the controller. This was after connecting the new vacuum line.

    Truck Size

I really like the new Chevy and GMC trucks. Not so much the price or all the technology in them. My 85 and a new HD. I really like this Trail Boss. I would like to get a 2-door model of that model. The 2 doors aren't really practical for traveling, and or transporting grandchildren. I added...

Cold air at my feet and not to much in my face. Also no defrost...WTF

When my truck had the same problem the AC control unit wasn't getting any vacuum to the switch. I would start with pulling the control unit out and checking that you have a good vacuum source to the switch. If you do have good vacuum at the switch, then you will need to trace out the lines and...

What’s IT Worth? (Post all “what’s it worth threads here)

The truck is like a time machine. I would hate to see it go to someone that will ruin a solid stock truck. I can see it now dropped ,tubed and LS swapped. That would be a shame IMHOP.

    Engine lift points

They look like the brackets. I think they would be bolted to the head or block for lifting. I guess technically they are.

What have you done to your square lately??

Thanks for the part number. I would consider removing the stock hooks for the hitch. I had to cut the new air dam that i bought so it would clear the hooks. My bumper brackets are tweaked a little to the driver's side. I may have to fix them. I've looked at those hooks also. I bought the part...

What have you done to your square lately??

Thanks. Installing a front hitch is on my project list. I have one of those steps that go over the tire. The hood gets in the way using it. I usually use a portable work platform, it's much better than a step ladder. The bumper step is perfect for when you are on the road.

Is that a swing out step on the front or one mounted in a receiver hitch? Its a cool idea either way.

1987 sbc long block valve cover oil cap

I have the same covers on my truck. The cap has an O-ring and some course threads on it. Try and look for a 86-92 F body cap or early 90's truck cap.

    hei vacuum advance stop plate

I'm thinking on some aftermarket distributors they come with a lock out plate that keeps you from running any vacuum advance. A lot of drag race cars are run with no vac. advance. Some guys weld stop on the stock plates.

    Working AC again

Like the title states I have working AC after not having it for over a year. This problem started with a leaking Schrader valve on the small dia. tubing running from the condenser to the evap. I broke the tubing trying to replace the valve. I then ordered the wrong tubing from a local parts...
