    Front Driveshaft spline slop

Huh... Maybe I need to look at some pictures and look at mine closer, but I don't think that part is on mine at all... Might do the trick. You have to pull the shaft apart to put it on there, I take it? Thanks.

    Can we be honest people?

There's a few that have bugged me over the years, like the blower speed control on my Yukon that gets condensation dripping on it and shorts out every so often, but most of my problems with GM are more to do with their marketing than engineering. When did you ever see a Pontiac advertised...

    Front Driveshaft spline slop

Possibly stupid question... I developed a noise coming from the front end ('87 3/4T Burban, ~stock with 100k miles) that I isolated to only when hubs are locked, and then further to the front driveshaft, specifically the splined slip joint. The driveshaft has probably 1/8"-1/4" 'wiggle' to it...

    Turbo 35 C

You do need to know if it is the 700R4 or the TH350. Your gear indicator may help (does it show a circle around the "D"?), but probably the better way would be to look at the pan. Does it have a corner cut off? If so, that's a 350. If it's mostly square, it would be a 700. The 350 uses a...

    My 85 C20 Frankenstein

8 lug on 3/4 ton is normal. Can't say for sure about the spindle difference, I believe there's ways to go about a 5 lug/8 lug swap, although I might be getting mixed up. Good luck with it either way!

    Another Motor swap...V8 or V6

Sounds like you are along the road already, but should have added some more info. I've had 3 LS SUV's, all suburban length. 2001 2WD/5.3/loaded otherwise, made it to 300k before I thought I'd be better off replacing the long block instead of swapping lifters. Pulled engine had hatch marks in the...

    Another Motor swap...V8 or V6

I don't have swap experience on a truck yet, but I can tell you my numbers from an 85 Monte Carlo I did 10 years ago. Stock setup was 4.3 TBI, 3 speed auto (non-lockup), and 2.14 rear gears and 25-26" tires. Essentially it drives like a 4 speed that is missing first gear, or like larger tires on...

Suspension issues - which new upgrage to buy

I know you said no air bags, but have you considered them as "helpers"? You could look into removing a leaf or two in the existing spring (or replace with the lightest spring pack you can find) and add air bags in the rear to get the ride height and load capacity you want. I'd also look into a...

Please help me make a decision

I don't know if it is right or not, but I have a 14 SF rear in mine and was all ready to replace the U-Joints to get rid of the clunk from reverse to drive. Then I started checking to see if one end was worse than the other, turned out both were nice and tight, no play. Did more looking on this...

Please help me make a decision

If it is just a delayed shift, then I'd be checking that modulator out. If the vacuum line is not connected or cracked, it will slam hard shifts, and shift very late, essentially "thinking" that you are flooring it even when you are just putting around. I think most setups have a hard line that...

Bringing the Cat back...enough is enough.

Cat inlet just about even with the end of the T-case on mine, not sure the length difference between the TH400 and your setup.

Bringing the Cat back...enough is enough.

Right after the Y merge (the upper left of the picture you can see a little bit of the weld, that's the merge), it jumps up and over the Tcase crossmember, then right into the converter. It's a pretty good ways away from the manifolds, and apparently GM thought it was good enough?

Bringing the Cat back...enough is enough.

I tried to get some pictures that showed it all, hopefully this might help a little?

    Outside thermometer

What Rear View mirror did you use? If it's GM, there's a good chance you could get a replacement with map lights as well as compass/temp display, and it would most likely piggyback off of your previous work instead of replace it. Just a thought. I've seen some like this that would be a slightly...

    Lifted '84 K10 speedometer

Good advice on the speedo stuff, I think you are headed the right direction. As for the transmission heat, I think the trans temp gauge is a good idea, as it will take a lot of guesswork out of it. Even if you just run a temporary for a summer to see where the limit is before it starts heating...

Bringing the Cat back...enough is enough.

I'll see if I can get a picture of mine tonight, I need to take a look myself. Mine is an 87 K20 'Burban with 350 and TH400, not sure how different it might be. I know mine is a massive pancake style pretty much right after the Y, and single 2.5" from the merge back I believe.

Planning ahead for 3/4T 4WD Suburban suspension

Access to the rack/platform. It has spots for swivel seats, and the rail extends up to waist height as a handrail/shooting rest. There's not much in the back here, so you can see the little bit of nose-up rake I have. The front springs are probably less than an inch arched up, not sure how much...

Planning ahead for 3/4T 4WD Suburban suspension

Thank for the welcome and for the advice! ORD looks like nice stuff, but a liiiitle bit out of the budget... Good dream build material though As for what is worn out, most of it looks worn but not worn out. The truck was actually purchased by the Texas A&M Archeology department new, and...

Planning ahead for 3/4T 4WD Suburban suspension

TL;DR - What's the best start for upgrading factory 3/4T 4x4 suspension to a softer riding, more comfortable setup? Budget first, Reasonable ride quality second, off-road capability needs to hold steady or get better, without a "lift". Longer version: I recently picked up an 87 Suburban 3/4T...
