How to make a 5.3 less ugly?

Nobody said anything about performance he asked about looks. Just throw some paint on it. Here's on I had. Can't even tell it's ugly under the cover

    thoughts on 4.56 with 33's?

Yeah, the hour long trip from my house to the lake house that I travel weekly with either lowboy or boat is basically nothing but hills. No way 4th gear would work.

or go to 4.10? 85 k10 shortbed/350/700r4/3.73/33" tires the truck had 2.73s in front and rear when I got it. no idea why, but I swapped in a 12 bolt 3.73 eaton lsd axle in the rear and removed the front driveshaft until I can do the front. truck does MUCH better with 3.73. but I want...

Problems with coolant system in my 1986 Gmc Sierra

Yes, I'm not here to argue the difference between the two. I kept trying to type stalactites but spell check kept changing it to stalagmite.

Problems with coolant system in my 1986 Gmc Sierra

Another thing to check is freeze plugs. One may rust or crack, you won't see it because it forms like a stalagmite as it dries on the block, but It will constantly let air in, causing most of the issues you talked about. Had that on my blue truck

    I might be in trouble

Rebuild is just as reliable if not more so because you know how it's built. I rebuilt my 350 7 years ago after it spun a bearing and I flog the hell out of it. 3 different cams, 2 different types of heads but same bottom end, still strong. If the block is ruined go to the junk yards and pull a...

    Re-arch or new front leafs

Always re arch. That way you keep your factory USA steel. Most of the newer leafs are crappy steel.

    I might be in trouble

Damn! Sorry dude it was worth a shot. You may have to settle for a small block in the meantime of finding a big block...I don't know about up there but down here they are not as easy to find in running condition

    proper order to adjust valves?

Guys I've adjusted valves before, last time was on this engine I'm currently running, I did it when the engine was out of the truck, all I did was use the method of marking the flywheel and turning the engine a full revolution then adjusting each cylinder in an order I can't remember. Anyways...

    10 bolt rear end question

And the 'cap' isn't a cap...it's to allow venting out but no water or debris in. Needs to be bolted to the bottom of your bed floor

    I might be in trouble

only reason I say that is because I've pulled stuff out of old pans in engines like that before, and nothing was ever wrong as far as I know, the engines were fine and I continued driving them

    I might be in trouble

Ok, they say a spun cam bearing but how is the engine running? I know gauge indicates low oil pressure but its worth it to me to change out the oil pump and see what it does. I mean unless its audibly knocking like hell. New oil pump could make it last another 100,000 miles who knows

    I might be in trouble

I have. 4 cylinder Isuzu engine lost the thrust washers and allowed the crank to move back and forth wearing the ends down. Ran like a champ with 300x miles

    Rattling is driving me insane

I had never even heard of "flexplate" until I was like 27 years old and been around cars my entire life. Everyone calls them flywheel

    Brake Combo/Prop Valve

Just install and bleed as normal. It was pretty damn easy, just soak them brake lines on the old combo valve with wd40 for awhile and use a line wrench to get them off

    Brake Combo/Prop Valve

Is your wire to the combo valve hooked up? If so you should have a red brake light on in the cluster indicating a problem. When flow is shut off to either front or back it trips that light

    Brake Combo/Prop Valve

That's how mine was. Flush. For lack of a better idea I replaced it and it fixed it

    Brake Combo/Prop Valve

Yeah, combo valve. If the silver pin isn't resetting it, and slamming on the brakes doesn't work, then you need a new one. I had the same problems. Here's the one I bought which fixed the problem. http://www.carolinaclassictrucks.com/81-87-GM-FS-Truck-Prop-Valve.html

    I might be in trouble

If you go thru the trouble of dropping the pan, have a new pump ready to go in regardless. Cheap ins
