Can't decide what to do.
I would like to see a picture of how bad the rust really is. Maybe its not as bad as you make it sound. As for the motor my advice would be park the truck is a good spot and drain the oil. That will give you a good sign on whats going on. There could be a lot of things making a tapping noise...- marks86

My guess is bad gas shitted up everything. My advice would be empty tank, full it up with 93 and add a can of seafoam to the tank, and replace the fuel filter. See if that helps, if not time for a carb rebuild- marks86

hard to turn hubs?
take the hubs apart and check it out, they are very simple to remove. I can go out on a limb and say the bearings should be regrease anyways- marks86
