    vortec heads on 350

What RPM range do you need? For gobs of low end torque, the dreaded "swirl port" heads do a great job and are usually available for cheap, but they somewhat choke things off above 4000 or so. Swirl ports do a great job throughout the power band, I believe, but, if you opt to go with them. either...

Roller rockers, poly locks and valve covers

Apparently, due to reduced friction, they give a bit of an increase in power and reduce heat. As I am using a roller cam and lifters, seems kind silly to cut the last corner........

    Which Roller Lifter??

The information on available roller lifters confuses the heck out of me! I need roller lifters for a Gen1 350 880 roller block. I see lots of lifters for LS motors, some LT motors and all variety of year ranges. Are there differences among the various roller lifters for small block Chevys??

    Piston Ring Gap Placement

And that flies in the face of the Sealed Power diagram...which shows the same ring for all pistons, but the left bank will be opposite the right bank in relation to the engine centerline. That is to say, top ring gap to the top on the left pistons, and bottom on the right pistons, and so...

    Piston Ring Gap Placement

Trying to establish the orientation of ring gaps on the piston of my 350 is yielding a variety of results. Sometimes they are located top/bottom, with RH bank being one way, LH being opposite. Basically setting up all pistons the same, regardless of where they go in the block. Other information...

Roller rockers, poly locks and valve covers

Retrofit roller lifters are longer than either flat tappets or OEM roller lifters, hence the need for shorter push rods. I am building a roller ready "880" block with stock roller lifters. I have not read anything about roller rocker arms needing push rods of lengths differing from stock, but...

Roller rockers, poly locks and valve covers

Not exactly...just don't wanna spend the coin for tall rocker covers if I can avoid it. I have considered using self locking nuts ala stock, but have read too many reports of then backing off.

    DD 350 Cam Suggestions

I opted for the LT4 Hot Cam and purchased one reground from Willhoite's in Oklahoma City. He ground it with a built in 2° advance and instructed me to install with timing marks aligned per factory. I will still degree the cam when installing so I know what I have. We'll see how it goes.....

Vortec vs Swirl Port spark Plug Location

Having read that the spark plugs on Vortec heads are offset towards the exhaust ports causing problems with some headers, I looked at the 193 heads on currently on the engine. The plugs are likewise offset towards the exhaust ports. I loosely test fit the headers to see if three was going to be...

    Motor s/nsticker

    Motor s/nsticker

The 350 I purchased had a serial # sticker U621XXXX Good old 409 washed the number off, so I removed the sticker. There is no number stamped in the block...just shiny iron. Do I correctly conclude that: 1. The short block/motor has been rebuilt by an engine rebuilder?? 2. The block has been...

    Idle to 1500RPM

Dual plane intake manifold choices tend to be divided into 2 camps: Idle to 5500RPM, lower HP 1500 to 6500RPM. higher HP In the testing I have seen, RPM for max HP is not stated. https://www.hotrod.com/articles/dual-plane-intake-manifold-comparisons/ Maybe this test is outdated?? I really...

    Which 350 ?

I talked to the local machine shop about machining a block for a mechanical fuel pump. He said there is a jig for performing that job, and cost to do the work would be about $25.00 Anyone heard of that??
