Burb is no-go - fuel pump or filter??

Between my wife and I we have four vehicles and her sienna is the only one running without issues right now. I noticed Friday that my Vette had a loose rocker arm so I have valve covers off and am dealing with that (I have been having problems with the cheap poly locks so I'm replacing with...

Burb is no-go - fuel pump or filter??

Yeah I was thinking that too with the tach. Filter is first thing I'll try after checking for spark. I've had plenty of fuel filters go in other vehicles and this felt like those did Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Burb is no-go - fuel pump or filter??

Leaving our neighborhood this morning going up a steep hill and lost power, engine still ran (barely) for a few seconds but then died. I was able to start it a couple three times - enough to get turned around - but then had to coast all the way back to my house. (Luck was on my side there)...

    Parking Brake Switch Problems

No, I don't think it was a wild goose chase. True, I did think it was erratic at first but in a later post I corrected that and said there was a pattern: four short and one long. (The short blinks are very short so it looked at first like a bad ground but definitely now see a repeating...

    Parking Brake Switch Problems

He used both front and rear axles from the '77 - went from 3.73s to 4.10s. However, the speedo is pretty close in checking with GPS, 1-2 mph off only. So maybe he did that part right. And I took it camping for the last several days and no issues at all. Maybe the reset by unplugging the...

    Parking Brake Switch Problems

Thanks, guys. This may take a while to diagnose, but now it's not doing anything wrong. I drove it today and light behaved properly - brakes did too. Dumb question: the PO replaced the rear-end with a 14 bolt FF from a '77 Burb. That wouldn't cause any problems with the RWAL would it?

    Parking Brake Switch Problems

Well maybe not so far in the future.... I looked at the flashing more closely and it is flashing a sequence - 4 short and one long. I think Viktor may have been correct. So I unplugged the top connector on the controller by the m/c - blinking stopped. Then I plugged it back in and the light...

    Parking Brake Switch Problems

It's very erratic, definitely not a sequence. It has all the hallmarks of a loose or bad ground so that's where I'll start. (Thank goodness as I'm sure the RWAL system is loads of fun to diagnose). Thanks for the help everyone! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Parking Brake Switch Problems

Parking brake light stays lit and works fine when parking brake is applied, but when p-brake is off, driving down the road, idling, key just on, etc. the light flickers. Constantly. How does this thing work? It seems like a bad ground - does something get grounded when the brake is off to...

    Low battery / constant drain

Be careful if you use a regular, consumer grade meter (not the clamp on type) and put it in line with the battery - sounds like you have a significant current draw that could easily blow your meter or its fuses (don't ask me how I know this....the fuses I blew were hard to find)

Any comments on this? How hard is it to get the wrist pins thru the rods? Are there any better ways to do it than I describe above? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Setback!!! Press-fit wrist pins! I looked at some YouTube vids and I think I could build a little jig and then heat up the rods with a MAP gas torch, but.....I think I'm going to check with my machinist to see what he would charge. I think I'd be too nervous about getting the rod orientation...

So anyone have experience with these head gaskets? They're copies of Fel Pro 1003 hi po gaskets, but price is a bit less. Leaning towards just going with fel pro but if these were trustworthy...... https://www.ebay.com/itm/311645244663 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Actually yes but it's only that I'm ready to start assembling. Only succeeded in getting it painted and on the engine stand. And ordering more parts: gaskets seals and cylinder head bolts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    350 tbi not enough for a 383?

Wow - sounds like a heck of a lot cheaper than the route I'm taking. I've often wondered if I should have just bought a parts rig with TBI 454 and put that in instead. The only thing affordable about my build is the fact that I've spent two years gathering parts so I could spread the cost out...

    350 tbi not enough for a 383?

I'm building a 383, too (http://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/383-vortec-tbi-build-thread.17772/). I'm using a 46 mm throttle body and 454 injectors, 74 lbs/hour. The seller's claim on the 46 mm is it can support 330 HP - good enough for me, this build is all about torque. As long as the...

which way to go with the 350

98 and 95 are two pretty different animals. 98 is vortec - much better heads, but you'd have to figure out what to do for FI, if you're going that way. (or maybe just carb it?). 95 is TBI.

Yeah, that's for sure! My Vette doesn't need a huge amount of stuff right now, but there's always something. Drove it to work today and on the way home a heater hose split, and drained the radiator. Glad I caught it in time - I have vortecs on that too and they're prone to cracking. I got it...

Brought everything home from machine shop today, hopefully for good! Fully prepped block, washed and ready for paint, fully balanced rotating assembly. All that's left: paint, short block assembly, long block assembly, remove old motor, put this one in, get a chip burned, get it running, tune...

Final batch of parts ready to go to machine shop: kb 135 pistons, 8" counter weighted balancer, flex plate described earlier, and crank gear from a new cloyes true roller timing set. He already has block, rods, crank, and bearings. He's going to balance rotating assy, install cam bearings...

    383 Vortec/TBI Build Thread

I believe there has always been the different options of 153 vs 168 tooth, regardless of pre or post '86. From what I've read, if the two bolts securing your starter to the block are perpendicular to the drive train, your flex plate is 153, if they're at at angle (45 ish?), it's 168 tooth. If...
