    Oil Pressure Troubleshooting

If it makes you feel any better, mine's got 285k on it now and even with 10w/40 only makes 30ish on cold start. Hot idle is maybe 20. Super hot, climbed a 20mi hill towing the camper in 95*F temps at 35mph, maybe 12-15lbs. Running down the road at speed, 28ish. Switching to 10w-40 from the...

    Oil Pressure Troubleshooting

I've built a lot of engines over the years, and been inside countless others. I've used plastigauge often. It is accurate. I've also reused bearings in situations where the bearings were still perfect. I've never had a problem.

    Seat recovery

Personally, I think it's worth having an upholstery shop do jobs like this. The seat get's rebuilt in the process, so not only does it looks good, it sits good. IMO, money well spent over the lifetime ownership I plan. When I had the 2 front seats done in the 'burb, I harvested a bunch of...

    Oil Pressure Troubleshooting

This passed summer I installed a mechanical gauge in mine. I T'd off the OE sender location next to the distributor. Bummer that this wasn't cured by replacing the filter. If your mechanical gauge confirms the low oil pressure, you might want to pull the pan, plastigauge the rods and mains...

    Oil Pressure Troubleshooting

You're extremely lucky. Kinda like using Jiffy Lube or Midas for oil changes and exhaust/brake work and saying, "Gee, never had an issue." IMO, engines are really expensive compared to paying $6 or $8 for a good filter, instead of $3. And when a Fram grenades internally, you lose oil...

    Oil Pressure Troubleshooting

Do yourself a huge favor, and purchase a nice filter. The junk from others is just as bad as the Fram. Low oil pressure AFTER you have a quality oil filter installed, will be due to: -Oil pump output -Failed oil pressure relief valve (if fitted as part of the oil pump) -Excessive wear in the...

    Oil Pressure Troubleshooting

This will sound like I'm being a dick, but I'm going to go ahead anyway. Wiskey Tango Foxtrot do people still use Fram filters? They are absolute crap, have been for 40yrs, and oil pressure problems like what you are experiencing, are common with them. Do yourself a big favor and spend more...

    700R4 Lockup adjustment?

Not sure how you've adjusted the TV cable, but it won't be set correctly unless you've used a pressure gauge in the port on the driver's side of the trans. www.bowtieoverdrives.com has an extensive article on how to correctly set the TV cable using a gauge that you can make yourself.

    Woodgrain v. Brushed Aluminium

I'm a lover of the woodgrain too, and mine's held up in the California sun perfectly. Looks like the day it was built.

    Automatic Transmisison Temperature

How do you feel that performs? I've always heard that the stacked plate design, like the ones in my photo (the one on the driver's side is the factory engine oil cooler) are more efficient.

    Automatic Transmisison Temperature

Here's a few shots of how I keep mine cool. This is the 11x11x1.5" Tru-Cool, which is the same as the B&M Super Cooler, just reboxed. Remember, if you had a cooler, the fittings can not be facing downward as you can see in a couple of my photos. With the fittings facing down, an air bubble...

    Which radiator hose

You can also do your own auxiliary trans and engine oil coolers, but maybe it would be easier to just mount the 6.2's radiator?

    Which radiator hose

If you go to a website like RockAuto, Drivewire, Autopartswharehouse, etc, there are pictures and measurements of the different radiators by year/model. The Diesel version is pretty unique, but still long. IIRC, it's not as tall though? Like 17" vs. 19" for the gassers.

    Bright headlights?

^^Get rid of the blue tinted bulbs^^ Blue tint on the bulbs makes the light output dimmer. Think in terms of putting sunglasses on. Just get the brightest white color spectrum and aim 'em properly.

    Which radiator hose

Yours is what I call the standard big block radiator. Same width as the standard small block radiator, but twice as thick. I installed your radiator in my 'burb about a year ago when my standard small block radiator needed to be replaced. Had to space the fan forward due to how shallow the...

    Which radiator hose

I installed your radiator last year. It was about twice as thick as the radiator I had been using, and with that shallow shroud, I had to space my fan forward, to get the blades back inside the shroud. It was a nice upgrade, but it's not as long as the long radiator I show in my photos. It's...

    Mechanical clutch not engaging

Firstly; thanks for your service to our country! Have a helper work the pedal while you watch the mechanicals. If need be, disco the mechanicals from the throw out fork and see if they work, and then try to get the fork to work by carefully prying on it w/o the mechanicals connected.

    Knocking under load/hard acceleration

A compression test gauge has a one-way valve (actually a tire schrader valve) that keeps pressure up in the gauge, so you can get an accurate test. So a compression test gauge can not be used for a leak down test gauge. The quickest and most accurate method of testing for a blown head gasket...

    Which radiator hose

It appears that the 2 wheel drive, 454 set up got the much longer radiator. Same passenger side mount location, but it spanned across almost to the headlight buckets on the driver's side. 4x4/454's didn't get it for some reason. Been looking to upgrade to that bigger radiator because I...
