I did approximately the same thing - but I put a drawbar hitch on the front
frame and use it to mount my winch. I've had my '86 K5 totally up off all 4
wheels and dragged it up a 45° incline and have never even had a squeak
from the welds and mount.
It's a 9K Warn, power in/out.
You...
... yeah but that's for an Arizona registered vehicle - not one you drive FROM WA or MT or ID ---> TO Arizona. Most all AZ or SoCal and possibly S Texas will have no frame rot like a vehicle (any vehicle, really) from states with snow and salted roads.
Check the frame in the voids and if you...
Previous dates - up to about '86 1/2 don't use any form of a full duplex ECM - nothing that is actually controlling shift points or TCC, etc.
►There was HEI but I believe by 1988 1/2, they started using an infantile version of an ECM with a feedback carb system (TPS, ISC, CTS, 02S, etc) to run...
Since I've got a SMV for it --- it is legal on any road/street in Montana. I drive it to town some times just for fun - 6 miles or so.
It never really gets a second glance by people in town - they see things like that all the time I guess - or they're just jaded.
I will however, wait until...
I got a 1956 Case VAH/VAN tractor from a friend who died and his wife said she knew he wanted me to have it.
.. as I found it before I took it home .......
.... after I got it running and working. It was really in good condition --- with the exception of the two front and left rear tire...
I just added STOCK dual shocks on all 4 corners to increase roll resistance around corners. It worked really well and I was rally surprised that they didn't actually increase the ride stiffness very much at all.
Once I installed them - it felt like I had doubled the diameter of the sway bars...
I want to run an automotive-style oscilloscope on my Samsung Tablet w/Android. It should have a minimum of 2 channels - but 4 is better.
I can see all sorts of units on Amazon that install in the middle of the signal chain and send the results to the tablet - but it's pretty confusing.
Can...
Uhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm mmmm..... I don't think so...............
For the record, I have dual temp sending units and gauges.
I find that the sender in the intake crossover before the thermostat ('86 K-350/383 stroker, Edelbrock Lo-Riser-QJet) reads about 250°F until the thermostat opens...
For the record and as I remember it when I took my first Smog License Installer/Adjuster/Inspector's test for the license back in 1965, was that the 265 ci SBCs had a road draft tube.
SOME early 283 ci SBCs had an open system, but not for long.
I was installing crankcase ventilation...
No it wasn't.
It was a government idea in older gasoline engines with blowby that was decided by a committee to re-route it back into combustion again to extract the last bit of power out of it.
It originally was an economy device designated as necessary for government contracts to be...
Actually - the choke plate should open even if you don't 'blip it' at all.
Providing that the choke-break diaphragm is still good, it will pull the choke plate partially open (it's adjustable) the moment there's any vacuum created under the carb plate and this keeps the engine from going...
SOUND is important here too.
What do you hear when it's idling? Is there a sizzling noise?
Q-Jets can drop a float and run rich - which is evident by the sizzling noise of fuel peeking out of the venturi fuel ports and dripping onto the almost closed butterflies.
That will give you a noise...
Yup -- the good stuff has been legislated out of existence.
I used it for (what else?) stripping my Citabria and used it in a carry-over on some of my vehicle projects. I wouldn't hurt aluminum, magnesium and almost any other metal I used it on. Steel would get an interesting patina on it...
Too much generalization here.
There are a lot of factors that affect the output of the alternator, the biggest is the capacity of the alternator in the first place.
If you're comparing a 150Amp alternator to a 68Amp alternator, then idle output on the smaller one is going to take you to low...
That's called a "Drop Center" rim and they were on a few vehicles and then California decided to make them illegal for the very reason that if they get low and you take a turn, the bead can slide down into the valley and they instantly go flat.
It's fun until someone loses an eye...
Any needle bouncing is actually the drive cable is stopping and restarting every revolution. It means there's maybe individual wires in the cable that have broken or the whole housing is dry.
I don't like taking the cable end of the back of the speedo - but it IS do-able if you're dedicated...
Boomer-type guy here with a 1986 K5 Square, 383 stroker, Crane cam, Edelbrock Lo-Riser, THM700R4 with some goodies, Gov-Lok rear, Posi-front, Warn Hubs, Warn 9K winch, 265/75R15s on 2000 C-K 4WD rims ...................... it's orange.
