3 on the tree to sm465 conversion questions

update. I filled the transmission last night to come into about 2 quarts on the floor this afternoon. And it's coming from the front of the trans. Probably going to blow this thing up if one more thing goes wrong lol.

I took some pictures of it today so I could make sure we were thinking about the same thing. So is this what yall are kind of talking about as far as mounting positions? I put it back it the same as it came out so I didn't think anything should have been different.

3 on the tree to sm465 conversion questions

I am using new hardware. The old stuff that came off the crossmember was nasty and missing a bunch of pieces. I got all new bolts, nuts, and washers for the crossmember. I didn't get any bolts with the transmission so I got some grade 8 bolts like Bucket said earlier and they seemed to fit.

I got a high hump cover Im installing right now. And I don't know anything about spacers? I don't think I need the skid plate because i shouldn't be hitting the trans with the road. This truck isn't going to be much for offroading.

3 on the tree to sm465 conversion questions

*update* I got the new bell housing and it does fit pretty well the clutch fork that came with it works as it should. I attempted to put the transmission in over the weekend but it wouldn't go in due to misalignment of the clutch. I used the doorman clutch alignment tool but it didn't work too...

3 on the tree to sm465 conversion questions

I thought about trying to modify it but getting the old clutch fork would probably cause more problems on my end and I do not want to take any chances (these past few weeks with this thing have been a horrendous chore of wrong parts and trying to make things work). I ended up ordering a bell...

3 on the tree to sm465 conversion questions

I am not too sure what year. I bought the sm465 off him because I was pretty sure they were all the same until the late 80's I think. He said he pulled the bell housing and shifter handle off another truck which I believe was a later 60's model. But the clutch was brand new its just been sitting...

3 on the tree to sm465 conversion questions

Okay so I bought a clutch fork for a 77 thinking that it would fit but I guess these older style bell housings are not as wide. I bought the transmission, bellhousing, clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel off of a gentleman and he told me that they should fit. But now I'm faced with the problem...

3 on the tree to sm465 conversion questions

I thought I did too lol. I've never worked on much gm stuff mainly toyota and motorcycles. So I'm not familiar with all the different styles yet. So far so good though! These trucks are super simple.

That's weird. I was thinking about it today when I got to the shop so I grabbed some pictures. Do you think I should look into maybe threading these holes?

3 on the tree to sm465 conversion questions

Thanks man! So do I would assume I would need nuts for the bottom two? The bellhousing I got has threads on the top mount holes but none on the bottom. I don't know if I got the wrong one or not.

One more question. What size bolts do I need for the sm465 to go to the bellhousing? I have been reading different answers. Would you or any others have information/pictures or such to share? Thank you guys so much for the help!

3 on the tree to sm465 conversion questions

Okay cool! so I was just going to cut a small hole the size of the shifter to begin with but now I see what you are saying about the top of the transmission needing that extra clearance. I'll try and get one of those ordered. I was going to try and put the engine and transmission in this...

3 on the tree to sm465 conversion questions

I would definitely have loved to get a five speed but the transmission I got was a really good deal, so I had to go with it this time. But if I keep this truck for a long time I will most definitely be upgrading to a 5 or 6 speed.

3 on the tree to sm465 conversion questions

Hey guys! I just bought my first c10 recently with no engine or transmission. I would like to put in a 350 with the sm465 but I don't know what parts I need to figure out fitment of the 4 speed on a 3 speed crossmember. I already have the transmission, clutch, flywheel, bellhousing, shifter...
