    Driver Side Alternator?

May I suggest, either repair and tap the hole to be reused (ideal) OR thoroughly clean the hole and fill it with JB Weld. Then get the lower bracket, bolt it to the water pump, then bolt the lower bracket to the alternator, but not into the head. Will at least get you going for a while.

    gasoline drainback

Look - here is my view. Do with it what you see. Been going through similar shit with drain back on my big block. Are you insisting on running the Edelbrock? If so, then do it. Not my thing, but it is what you want. So, moving on, take a measured approach. It sounds like there are 2 issues...

    Big Block Vortec Heads

Thanks for all the responses. I have been tuning it for the past couple of weeks. A couple of observations - I originally put in plugs for peanut port heads, but replaced them with the correct plugs for vortec heads. I gapped them at .055. It felt like it lost power. I was also having some...

    Big Block Vortec Heads

Just wanted to round this thread out and provide an update. I just finished the install today. I did a low budget install (sort of). I needed the following: rotator eliminators, adapting rocker studs, valve seals, and guide plates. Of course I also needed all gaskets and did an oil change...

    Big Block Vortec Heads

Guys, as always, you are a wealth of knowledge! Thank you! I have been searching the internet and the information is all across the board! You guys have made it a lot clearer than what I have found! I have rotators on the intakes and exhausts. I will order 2 sets! I am HOPING AND PRAYING this...

    Big Block Vortec Heads

I am sorry for all the questions, but one more (for now...). So just to clarify, I can use the retainers that are currently on my peanut port heads (with no rotators) on the new heads and I will not need the eliminators? That would be fantastic IF I can! If not, no biggie, just looking to see...

    Big Block Vortec Heads

Thanks, I have seen those posts. This is going to be l29 heads on a gen IV block, so it should be good! Studs and guide plates are en route, and I guess I will order 2 sets of eliminators. I already have a performer intake, so I am thinking I should almost be set. I am going to clean them, put...

    Big Block Vortec Heads

Thank you! Is it necessary to replace the rotators with the eliminators, or can I still use them? Thanks again!

    Big Block Vortec Heads

Hi everybody! So yesterday, I scored a set of L29 heads from Pick N Pull for a total of $45. They are going to replace a set of peanut port heads on a 454. It is mainly a tow rig. The heads look good (although greasy and oily) and have a rebuilder tag. So, I have been reading up on the swap...

    Diesel radiator

Mine is not a Diesel, but replaced my brass a few months ago with aluminum and plastic. My reasoning was that I will LIKELY have some indicator it will be going out. If/when that happens, I can order a new one and still drive with the leaky one until it comes in. Replace it the same day and...

My 1984 K5 Plow Teeruk 6.2 Rear Diffy Is Bad...

You do not remove the carrier or have to reset anything. These lockers only replace the side and spider gears. You simply put it in and are good to go!

My 1984 K5 Plow Teeruk 6.2 Rear Diffy Is Bad...

Talk about breaking parts, the spool will speed that up! No fun on the street. If looking for traction, with little work, throw in a power trax or similar “lunch box locker”. Little pricey, but replaces side and spider gears with no set up. OR stick with replacing the side gears and spiders.

My 1984 K5 Plow Teeruk 6.2 Rear Diffy Is Bad...

Unless they are waiting for another project, there is your answer if they are the same ratio (and the 14 bolt is out of a 3/4 ton). It will be cheaper and faster to bolt those in than rebuild the rear differential. I hate to say it, but even throwing in spiders, if that is the problem, is just...

    Power Brakes

Just kind of throwing this out there, but what makes you feel sorry for “this poor guy”? He brought this shit on himself. I used to be more helpful in forums and did tech write ups and all kinds of things. I finally got tired of attitudes like the OP’s where I was treated like hired help. None...

305 build advice. Any and all advice is appreciated!

So, at this rate, may I suggest a compression test? It sounds like the engine MAY be starting to get tired. Find out the condition of what you have. May be throwing good money after bad investing a lot of money in it if it is bad. Might want to consider just driving it as is and save your money...

305 build advice. Any and all advice is appreciated!

How tired is your engine, and what is your budget? Is it lifted or does it have bigger tires? Do you do a lot of freeway driving? I ask, because if you are looking to make it snappier or do a lot of in town driving, you may want to consider changing axles for some with lower gears. Axle sets...

    Found a couple of gems!

Please tell me you don’t call your girlfriend Big 10! My wife would kick my ass if I called her anything with the word Big in it! I am also her junior.

Link Belt vs. (Double) Roller Timing Chains

Just putting this out there - had a ticking noise coming from the front of an older 241 Hemi. Thought it was the chain too. Ended up being the fuel pump. Never heard a noise like that from a fuel pump, but just throwing it out there as one more thing to check before going through all the work...

    Power Brakes

Just wow! Just found this! There are so many WTF’s to this thread! Maybe some courtesy on the OP’s part, not telling mods to stay out of it, and asking understandable questions would have kept this on track. Oh, to bring it full circle, I have done power brake conversions. I do have info to...

Starts but quickly dies, any low tech tips for diagnosis?

Great places to start up there! being a novice, it is easy to get carried away and overwhelmed. Three things are needed to make an engine run - compression, air and fuel, and spark. I would not worry about compression, since it runs. Try testing it in a controlled environment and with a...

*82 1/2 Ton Suburban dual front shocks

I had the dual front shocks (added them on) and since took them off and have just the single shocks up front. I am running the sway bar and really noticed no difference with the dual shocks.

    TH350 Kickdown sticking?

I just had the same issue with an off topic car. Cable was sticking. If I am not mistaken, it was a pioneer. Have not replaced it yet, but I am starting to consider aftermarket options since it is possible they are both made by the same company, and there is the sticking issue with both brands.
