Intermittent voltage drop, fixed by jump

Sorry to ask yet another question but I ran wires in to the cab to a button to temporarily make sure the truck is drivable so I can diagnose ANOTHER issue with the truck not starting. It's possible it is the same issue but with the button the truck will usually start, with cranking the key it...

    Yet Another Starter Diagnostic Thread

Well I am dumb I ran extra long wire so I didn't have to run it twice and I may have just ran both lines too long or something  I shortened them and got it to work fine from inside the cab using the button. Next is to figure out the real issue :crying:

    Yet Another Starter Diagnostic Thread

Hey @Ricko1966 thanks for your help so far - one more hopefully quick question - I went the route of a momentary contact switch but it was a small one I had laying around. The starter tried to crank for like half a second and then stopped, testing I was getting 12v in to the momentary switch...

For sure I appreciate it. The toggle switches I have are a bit overkill but I'm running some wire here in a bit and grabbing a cheap toggle from Ace to get her going again.

Sounds good yeah when we bought our house the previous owner had an electrical supply company running out of the garage so I have plenty of both. I guess just running it through the firewall with the other wires is probably easiest. I want to find and fix the issue though as soon as possible...

Well I got the old one back on and sure enough I don't think there is any thing coming out of the ignition switch because it has no change from run to crank :/ should ha e checked it right the first time

    Yet Another Starter Diagnostic Thread

Ok thanks, yeah just took the old starter to another "parts store" to verify it was operating properly as I didn't have a lot of confidence that replacing it was the answer (the one the first parts store suggested). I'll probably take the other back in the morning and put this one back on now...

    Yet Another Starter Diagnostic Thread

I connected a long gator clip to a ground location in the engine bay and then probed where the wires come in. Verified incoming power when the ignition was engaged. By check the cables and 3 pt guard there is no way to test each one with the starter off is it? I'm assuming it would be to...

    Yet Another Starter Diagnostic Thread

My truck has been slow to start lately, as in taking an extra second or two after turning over the ignition until I start hearing it actually try to start. It starts up and runs great once the starter kicked in. This afternoon I went to crank it and got nothing, no clicks from the starter or...

    Finding an alignment shop

Thanks for all the feedback everyone, unfortunately all of the old guy shops are even giving up around here, presumably because they have so much more business from newer vehicles and it's easier. I'm going to reach out to a few shops about 30 miles south in Waxahachie but I hate driving my...

    Finding an alignment shop

My $175/ea Cooper Cobra's are done after 1.5 years and like 5k miles. Wore down to the belt on one side with probably 90% tread on the other side fo the tire. When I bought them I was referred to a shop to get an alignment but I couldn't find one in town to do it. I've been asking around...

    Losing coolant (video) 86 350

I can't tell exactly the location but you should be able to follow it up and I'd bet a dollar it is a rusted out freeze plug. For me it was hard to track because my freeze plug that was leaking was blocked by the motor mount or something, but I could tell it was from right there and I felt the...

    Are pneumatic tools obselete?

All of my battery powered tools work, but the batteries do not. They all seem to lose power over time and not charge well anymore, on top of being double the cost of the tool. I would stick with air personally.

My wife's 69 Mustang work in progress

That's a beautiful piece of artwork! Mine is a longtime member of the jackstand crew. I get in the mood once a year or so to work on it and it turns in to such a struggle and costs so much lol

    Boot on blower motor

The little waterproof boot over the connector on the blower motor power wire has broken or rotted in half. The problem is the part that fits snug over the blower to hold it in place is what has separated so the connection is intermittent. I looked around in some other threads and saw that a...

    Mystery Coolant leak

Yeah for sure this is my only grocery getter and the store is about .5 miles away, I don't have another vehicle. Trying to plan for when I can have the time to pull the motor and looking for a way to patch it for a few weeks until I find that time :)

    Mystery Coolant leak

I did get a set of brass ones from Summit just trying to figure out how I am going to do this. Will definitely go that route though. Are you sealing them with anything in particular?

    Mystery Coolant leak

Just in case anyone runs across this thread later - The leak for me was a freeze plug directly under the motor mount. It was nearly impossible to see until I used my phones' camera to make a video and held it up right there and pointed it towards the crack. I used Blue Devil Head Gasket...

    Mystery Coolant leak

Yeah I looked up the freeze plug locations and that makes sense. I see that looks about where it seems like this fluid must be originating from. There is no way I am pulling the motor if I don't have to to replace the plugs so I wonder how hard it would be to plug the plug...
