Stimulus Check, Header Nightmare and Regrets

First, I would like to say my truck ran fine with stock exhaust manifolds and I was happy with them…….Then I got my stimulus check. For some reason the money started burning a hole in my pocket and I needed to buy something for my 1975 Chevy Stepside. I decided to get some headers. Due to...

Best way to install new hood hinge springs?

I usually use the round end of my extra large crescent wrench. The adjustable end being wider keeps you from losing your grip. You can get good leverage and use both hands on it. It works very easy and won't slip off.

    Whats your hand soap?

I use the waterless hand cleaners. My shop does not have running water. I also use nitrile gloves most of the time. Mission Uniform sells some nice thick ones that last almost all day.

So, the 350 was rebuilt, huh ?????

Have you ran this cam before? I'm thinking of buying the Summit #1103 or #1102 for my 75 stepside. Very good price and includes the lifters. I'm leaning towards the #1103 due to a small lope at idle. Any info on experience with these cams would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you still have the cargo switch and harness? I'd like to add a cargo light to my truck. Thanks,

Catalytic converters: does your square have them?

My 75 Stepside came with single exhaust with catalytic converter. California does not smog 75 and older so I replaced it with dual exhaust / no cats.

Difference between stock air cleaner and aftermarket?

One vacuum line goes from the vacuum motor on the snorkel to the temperature sensor on the bottom of air cleaner. The other line goes from the temperature sensor to manifold vacuum. A manifold vacuum port on carburetor will have vacuum at idle.

    700r4 from 84 c3 vette ?

I did this swap on my 75 Stepside. I used a 700R4 out of a 87 Vette. I sold the engine and mated the trans to my Gen I 350. Worked great with corvette tail and shaft. I had to move the crossmember back a few inches but 3 out of 4 holes lined up with existing holes in frame. I just drilled...

Difference between stock air cleaner and aftermarket?

That one goes to a manifold vacuum source. Most carburetors have a manifold vacuum port. It will have vacuum with the throttle closed and engine idling. You can also connect it straight to the manifold if you don't have the port. Are you still running the Quadrajet? If so, it will have the...

Difference between stock air cleaner and aftermarket?

The stock air cleaner has a few purposes. Using the hot air to help warm up faster and get off the choke is one of them. They do pollute and use more fuel with the choke on. If you notice, the stock air cleaner has 2 vacuum lines. It uses manifold vacuum up to a temp sensor and then to the...

    Correct power steering pump

I believe those square holes are to attach a ratchet or breaker bar to tighten the belt.

    Door Window Weatherstripping

I bought mine from Brothers Truck. Fit perfectly on my 75 Stepside and looks great. Shipping was fast too but I'm only 60 miles from their warehouse. I used Brothers for my complete interior. The also have good customer service and don't hassle you on returns.

    700r4 transgo shift kit tips

I usually use one of the auto trans assembly lubes. They are inexpensive and dissolve well. They also hold everything in place very well.

    6.2 diesel to gas engine.

@ Blue Ox......... OOPS...... your right. After seeing your post, I looked it up and it was the 5.7 diesels that were made by Olds. I guess my memory isn't as good as it used to be....LOL.

Ultra rare collectible square body trucks?

I always wanted to pick up the Shear'Ree edition Chevy 4X4. They only made 800 of them. Already set up for off road with winch, interior roll cage, 4.56 gears, 36 inch tires, detroit lockers, 454 engine, 205 transfer case, etc. I used to see a few of them on the road here in So. Cal. but I...

    Cali Smog Engine Rebuild

Being a licensed smog tech in California for over 25 years, I deal with this scenario daily. Bore and stroke will not matter. Increased compression ratio will raise your NOx so be careful if your decking your block or taking anything off your heads. As for cam selection, just check that the...

    K5 easy top removal

I've had quite a few k5 Blazers over the years and never thought removing the top was much trouble. It only takes about a half hour. I would usually recruit help to remove it in spring and to reinstall at the end of summer. I'm in So. Cal. so we usually have great weather during that time. A...

Is the "body shop" tryna rob me

If it were me, I'd just swap out the cab. Not sure of the prices in Florida but here in So Cal I see rust free square body cabs for sale on craigslist regularly for about $500. That would save quite a bit of your rust repair cost. As for the "C" notch, that is very easy to do yourself. I just...

Fuel filling issues with new pumps

On my 75 stepside, I found turning the nozzle upside down works great. I'm in California and we have those vapor recovery devices on the nozzles. They can be a pain for these old trucks.

    Windshield antenna

On my 75 stepside, I purchased a new windshield with the antenna in it and new adapters / cable. I also had a Kenwood stereo installed with bluetooth / sirius, etc. I haven't experienced any reception issues. I agree that the radio might make a difference.
