    Can we be honest people?

That's just the truck part! (lol) We didn't even talk about from 2008 to 2019 - Or my Dad's 32 year career with GM. Or his racing exploits - K

    Can we be honest people?

Accessories is fun. I'm not tied to the assembly line and I a lot of freedom to design what I want. I just finished a racing stripe package for the new Z car which looks pretty good, if I do say so myself. Plus we are working from home (mostly) so I could do this for a long time. K

    Can we be honest people?

The day I left Flint Assembly and joined engineering was the day the engineering team split into the new GMT400 and the carryover R/V truck. I was assigned to the carryover R/V. I did assembly plant liaison work (new model launch) for a couple years until I moved to the Milford Proving Ground...

    Can we be honest people?

Starting in 1979: 40 years for me in product engineering, vehicle assembly, and engineering project management. Mostly full size truck, but also the Volt program and one low volume "show car" build which shall remain unnamed. Either was assigned to, or launched new models in 12 different GM...

    Can we be honest people?

Well there's that, but there's also: Part number count Minimize proliferation Designing to work in seven assembly plants Designing to maintain the existing production process/flow Designing to install at 60-70 vehicles per hour Durability Use across multiple model lines Reuse of an existing...

    Here's a 73-87 bed mat

It's nice. It looks just like the vintage OE mat in my truck (except for the Holley logo). K

    Frame Rivet Replacement

I used to lower my trucks by raising the brackets on the frame rail. Since I followed my 87 down the line as it was built, and since I knew I would be lowering it, I asked if they would bolt the brackets on rather than rivet them - but they wouldn't do it. K

    Frame Rivet Replacement

*I'm reminded about the guy that built up these cross members. He would work like a fiend all morning building up his day's supply, in sequential order, so that when the afternoon came he could kick back and leisurely just hang the crossmembers onto the feeder line at the appropriate time...

    Frame Rivet Replacement

Since I'm here, I'll add that the frames were received as individual rails, crossmembers, etc and built up on the chassis line. The operator would select the desired frame rails (1/2, 3/4 or 1 ton, 2wd vs 4wd, and wheelbase) and set them on a "pedestal line". The moving pedestals not only held...

    Frame Rivet Replacement

Cold. It was just a big moveable "press", like a hydraulic C clamp, hanging and counterbalanced from a tool rail overhead, and would squeeze the rivet into shape. Very low drama. K

    Frame Rivet Replacement

This is what was done on the assembly line, as the factory repair for a mis-hit or missing rivet. K

    Please help a lost fool….

I have a push button on two of my vehicles (my '63 Grand Prix, and my '74 Chevelle). The starter circuit was so old and decrepit (apparently) that they wouldn't crank off the key anymore. I thought it was a battery issue but adding a second battery in the trunk did not solve it. The button is...
