What master cylinder and booster do I get?

So based on a deep dive into the '83 chart I would recommend: M/C part number 18008065, code ZF 28.6mm bore dia; 37.42mm stroke Booster is 18010581, tandem vacuum, code FD (known as a model "240T"). K

What master cylinder and booster do I get?

The brake systems are based on GVW. You may have heard people talking about JB5 or JB6 or JB8 or whatever; that's the number you are trying to get to. ("JBx" is vacuum; "JDx" is hydroboost.) JB1 is manual; JB3 is the smallest power system and is kinda rare so I'm always surprised when I...

What master cylinder and booster do I get?

What's the GVW rating on the truck? Does it have the 1" or the 1.25" front rotors? K

    Identify which rear drum brakes

Do you know your GVW? Since it is a big axle I assume it is 8600 lbs. That would make the truck a JD7 and the rears would be 13"x2.5". That's assuming nothing has been changed since it was built (like it's the rear axle it came with). K

how to identify the gear ratio on my truck

It's really the only way to be sure. After 40 or 50 years there's no telling what's in there, regardless of what's stamped on the tube or in the SPID. K

    Headlight options for 84 K10

This is correct. V22 is included with YE9 (in English: quad headlights come with Silverado). For Scottsdale Z62 you can opt up and add V22 if you want. V22 not available with Custom Deluxe. K

    chassis vin numbers

C7J187704: C = Chevrolet 7 = 1977* J = Janesville Assembly Plant 187704 = sequential portion of VIN K *I suppose it could be '67, but the differences in the frame itself would be obvious. It cannot be '87 because for the 1987 model year the designation was "H".

    New member. 87 V20 Stepside

I'm a little surprised at those numbers. We sold a ton to the Middle East (Saudi, Kuwait, etc). I couldn't find the picture I was looking for but I have a photo that shows long wheel base steppers (red ones) at the port waiting to be shipped, as far as the eye can see. K

    Squarebody = '73 - '87 at it's purest, with a few models (Blazer/Suburban and 1 tons) straggling over into '91. K

    Cutting coils

Basically the ratio is 1:2, due to the placement of the coil spring in the control arm. That is, one INCH off the coil will result in a drop of two inches at the fender opening. K

1985 c10 step side 4speed manual transmission exploded view

Yes - 3.73 is a nice choice. That is the equivalent of a 3.42 gear without overdrive. K

1985 c10 step side 4speed manual transmission exploded view

When you say "1st and 2nd are so long" do you mean the gear ratios? Or the amount the lever moves when shifting? It's a pretty long throw when changing gears. A deeper first gear (higher numerical ratio) would be nice, especially to help get rolling when trailering. As far as finding an...

Wind noise is running me stir crazy

This. By the way - they were noisy when new. That's why you see these extra seals come and go. Somebody high up would complain about wind noise so we would scurry around and design solutions and get them in production. Then, the next time there was a cost cutting program they would be the...

Unfortunately I did not take any pictures of mine of just the bare floor. '87 2wd with MY6.

    Center hump

Column shifted 2wd vehicles got the low hump. So that would be automatics or three on the tree. Floor shifted manuals (MY6 and M20 SM465) whether 2wd or 4wd and all 4wd got the high hump. K

Best gear ratio for 8 inch lift and 40s?

If the original poster has an SM465 (with the granny gear) then there is a 110% chance that is is non overdrive. The overdrive manual trans was a New Process A833, RPO MY6, which was a MOPAR trans with third gear set 1:1 and fourth gear as overdrive. K

Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy

Our paths may have crossed. We moved to Davison in 1969; mom still had that same house until earlier this year. My homes during my adult life have been in Davisburg, Ortonville and now Clarkston, and we still do a lot of activities locally (Davison car show, Widetrackers activities out of...

Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy

Thank you; I had two uncles that drove for Boutell: Uncle Hal and Uncle Joe. Uncle Joe is the guy that loaned Mr Boutell the money to start the business. Uncle Hal is the reason my family moved to Michigan from SE Missouri. K

    Sticky thread for lowering C10s?

We did about a dozen trucks back in the day (a '69, a couple '75's, '77, a couple '80's, '82, and a couple '87's off the top of my head) with cut coils in the front and relocated the spring hangars on the frame in the rear. Total cost at the time was about $1.98 for grade 8 bolts/nuts/washers...
