Hi all,
I'm new to this site. I have acquired a project that my daughter and I are trying to build. The body is a 57' Chevy Truck, the frame might be a C10 from the 70's. The only chassis identification I could find was on the top of the frame on the passenger side just behind the cab.
I'm needing help decoding the number/letters. It looks like a chassis VIN, the number is: C7J187704. Can anyone out there give me a clue. Right now I'm changing out the tie rod ends and the stock replacements for a 77' C10 don't fit on the inner rod. I had the same kind of issues when we changed the A-arms and spindles. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks, John

C7J187704:

C = Chevrolet
7 = 1977*
J = Janesville Assembly Plant
187704 = sequential portion of VIN

K

*I suppose it could be '67, but the differences in the frame itself would be obvious. It cannot be '87 because for the 1987 model year the designation was "H".
