To remove or not to paint frame?

On my 79, I had the frame blasted as a unit, as having it be a roller was important at the time, then I disassembled it, cleaned the remaining areas with a purple 3m wheel, then painted and reassembled. If you look at my 79 thread in my signature, starting at post 495 shows that process.

    Front end noise

Looking it up, it seems some say it’s not a big deal, others say it’s hard on, and can wear the lock pins in the case? So pretty much the normal internet answers lol. I suspect that overall condition and driving style/usage play into this significantly.

1985 Long Bed Floor and Bedsides

Bedsides from the bed floor? Everything is bolted together except at the rear uprights on the bedsides, there should be one or two tack welds on the upright posts to the floor, hidden among the seam sealer. Cutoff wheel those and unbolt and should be free. Might need a putty knife or something...

1985 Long Bed Floor and Bedsides

If you look in my 79 thread (link in my signature), post #704 is when I took delivery of them in 2021. I believe they are worth the asking price, fit is good and I believe they addressed some of the issues that the other old tooling repop bedsides have. @TotalyHucked likely can answer what the...

1985 Long Bed Floor and Bedsides

Photos of bedsides, this was before the bed was disassembled, overall workable, for what I am asking I believe there is enough meat on the bone for someone to put the work on them to get them patched up. They are original paint. The stainless stone shields were moved onto a new home a couple...

1985 Long Bed Floor and Bedsides

I have a bed floor, bedsides, and front header panel from the 85 Silverado I parted out some years back. I have decided to try to move them onto a new owner. My original plan was to use the bed on the 79, ended up going with new tooling AMD sides instead. The bed floor itself is in pretty...

Looking to swap a 1979 Bonanza to an Automatic Overdrive

If you go with a 700r4, an NP208 would probably be the easiest solution as they are rather plentiful and came behind 700r4s from the factory. They are plenty strong. If you do go to a part time case, don’t forget to get some manual locking hubs.

    Ignition Switch (Tilt Column)

It could be the rack is broken or in the process of breaking. My 76 went from being able to star in any position, to mostly having to tilt down to crank, to neither when it finally broke. I thought it was the electrical switch at first, due to mileage and age, but it worked just fine with a...

This is how my 79 is/was, I recall the donor pieces from an 85 were the same construction.

FRONT FENDER COWL CAGE NUT Gone

In the a pillar? Have you tried to drill it with a right hand drill bit? The idea is if it grabs, it will thread itself in and just fall into the cavity, then chase the threads and install new bolt. Use a drill appropriate diameter for a tap drill, either 1/4-28 or 5/16 (coarse or fine is...

FRONT FENDER COWL CAGE NUT Gone

What is missing? On the a pillar by the door jamb, or the bolt on the cowl that is under the hood? Missing like missing, missing? Or stripped or? We need pics. There are potential solutions to either, but different solutions.

Since it's a full-time 203, you need to put the shifter into Hi-Loc, in Hi range, it is like an open differential, since you removed the front driveshaft it is putting 100% power to the front output as it has no resistance.

    03 Trailblazer Build.

Following along on this one. You likely have run across it already, but what made me aware of, and interested in the 4200’s was Corey’s Checker cab he swapped one into: It’s by no means a how to series, but some good data points on what can work with them. Corey had sold it and the new owner...

Dorman definitely is a mixed bag though, I have generally had decent luck with their products, I know from others they definitely have some clinkers. Hopefully rock auto will work with you on the return. I had ordered a set of u joint u bolts, got sent a set of outer axle bearings and seals for...

    What year tailgate is this??

76 was a changeover year I guess. There is a first and second design tailgate, per the repro catalogs. My 76, built in April of 1976, has those alignment tabs welded to the gate. However, it's a Chevy, not a GMC, I have found, especially from 1973-1976, GMC vs Chevy there's lots of subtle...
