    Brake issue

One more note, if you are using a corkscrew style return spring removing tool, always start the tool on the inside of the return spring loop. This will prevent bending the spring loop.

    Brake issue

The backing plates have raised pads where the brake shoe rests. On high mileage units these pads get worn with a notch that matches the metal part of the brake shoe. New brake shoes with thicker lining will sometimes apply and get locked in that worn notch. This can lock the wheel. The fix is...

454 intake manifold gaskets not sealing

Hard to tell from the pictures. Are they the 454 peanut port heads and the manifold is for the large oval ports?

After market seatbelts are expensive... looking for other ideas

The GM type "A" were all fine. They are non retractor early GM belts, no shoulder web. Better belts/buckles were in the GMT400 and GMT800 trucks. I don't know if they would bolt in a square. I think Rick has found you a solution. These belts have to be better than our trucks that have the type...

After market seatbelts are expensive... looking for other ideas

The kid knew more than you think. The belts that @rwjtexas posted are the GM type "B" buckles. Instead of replacing the millions of defective belts in all their vehicles, GM just settled out of court for all the wrongful death cases. Anyone who wants seat belts that will not ever fail, buy a...

Tailshaft / Driveshaft yoke - how far out from the housing is ok?

The PO installed that drive shaft, too short. But since it has not failed then you may be okay. The drive shaft yoke angle is very important. They both should be in the same plane.

Tailshaft / Driveshaft yoke - how far out from the housing is ok?

Yes, the yoke should be further in the trans. So most of the trucks on this forum have had previous owners. The question is why is it not correct? The picture in your avatar, is this the truck, lowered? When a truck is lowered the drive shaft is too long and adjustment is needed. Can be...

What is this connector? - SOLVED

Okay, instead of the type of wiring that turns the AC compressor off, how about bumping up the engine idle when the AC is on.

What’s IT Worth? (Post all “what’s it worth threads here)

The company no longer has files on the old fleet, pictures were saved years ago. Can't tell you the year.

What’s IT Worth? (Post all “what’s it worth threads here)

Here is a new 25 with those caps. Are the wheels six or eight lug, or only five? The company always took file pictures before a new truck went into service.

The first post in this thread has a picture of the inside. I can take an inside picture tomorrow if you need it.

What is this connector? - SOLVED

Some GM's had a normally closed pressure switch on the power steering pump. Since the engines were so leaned out, when you turned the steering wheel to the lock with the AC on and pressure build in the pump, engines stalled. So they had the switch to cut off the AC to keep the engine from stalling.

    Water Pump Pipe Plug

When I made the picture large I could see it is a square head plug. I have some square sockets but I'm sure many people do not. 12 point sockets will usually work as well, but again many do not have 12 point 1/2 drive sockets. You do have the best solution Rusty, buy a new pipe plug and don't...

    Water Pump Pipe Plug

Steel on steel pipe plug, probably rusted good. 1/2 inch impact gun would be my choice for removal. 12 point socket hammered onto that square plug.

@kodyharrison Hi Kody, welcome to the forum. Sadly, the company (La Van) that made the Flex-Thru rear windows is no longer in business. I also have one in my '82 GMC:

    1976 C30 Trailer Brake Controller

As stated not a current item any more, but you can still get one. I towed a lot with my Kelsey-Hayes controller. Hard part about adding a new one now, no adapter fittings for the master cylinder. You could cut the rear brake tube near the master cylinder, flare both ends and add the inverted...

bolts or studs for stock exhaust manifolds

As stated, correct bolts. The best bolts IH used on their 345 engines. Years ago you could buy just the middle size for your GM. Copper coated steel, the IH set now five bolts, 3 sizes. Some sets are still available, way too much money. GM exhaust manifolds have 2 holes to locate the...
